You mentioned where do we store all the air crafts for a carrier group. They are normally sent to U.S. naval air station's around the world. Carriers never come into port with any aircraft actually on them. They need to be underway to launch fighter jets. Same with the British navy. We learned a hard lesson December 7th 1941. Pearl harbor the U.S. navy has been spread out ever since. I live in a navy town. Sometimes British ships as well as Carriers and other vessels from other friendly nations come to America for training. They always send their fighter squadrons to land at the Naval Air station usually a couple days before the carrier arrives.
@SnowmanTF24 ай бұрын
It is also related to how air wings are managed. Going back to lessons from WW2, at start both US and Japan carriers had dedicated air groups, Japan stuck to this, the US eventually split the air wings from the ship. Which had practical implications, in the battle before Midway Japan had one carrier sunk but most of it's air group survived, and another effectively lost it's air wing but the ship survived the battle, so effectively removed 2 carriers from potentially being used at Midway. There was cases where US had air wing became attrited enough to become combat ineffective, so US just assigned a new air wing to the carrier. The split is also practical due to ship mantence cycles, carrier mantence cycles tend to be either around six months long or eighteen months long, and you only need to assign aircraft to the ones that are active.

The US has 59 active Air Force bases domestically that’s included in the about 450 to 500 military bases in the country. Now keep in mind that the Air Force isn’t the only branch that uses aircraft. The Navy, Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard all have their own aircraft as well, with the Navy being one of the biggest. The other thing a lot of these videos commonly forget is the US Coast Guard is an official branch of the US military. Their primary mission is protecting the US territorial waters but there is record of Coast Guard ships being used abroad in conflicts such as WWII.

Most counties in the NATO alliance have stopped really putting massive infrastructure into naval and air offensive superiority. In general the strategy is if the United States is going to dominate the Northern Atlantic and most of the Pacific power projection there is little point in putting a large amount of resources into that as well. The easier tactic is to just maintain joint training, task forces, and base operation in conjunction with the US Fleet (which is why the US has over 250 foreign joint operation military bases in other countries). This way if there is a need for offensive action you are very likely to just share the effectiveness of the US assets in that offensive. This then enables those allies to have a very strong Defensive infrastructure. This also includes ground offensive forces, which the US has deprioritized as its ground invasion threats are low. Those countries also have very strong covert operations teams, intelligence teams, and logistics infrastructure. Now many sometimes think that this means The United States is shouldering all the burden, however this cooperation actually enables the combined NATO forces to create a very strong protective layered infrastructure. Using the threat of having the United States ruling the sea and most of the air (essentially standing behind you) assets allows means they can work to create a defensive blockade over western and northern Europe. In turn the United States gets access to massive resources, intelligence networks, forward covert assets, and can ensure all this will always sit as a buffer between itself and threats. On the Pacific front this is also why the US why the assets are different. Australia has a extremely powerful navy and Japan and Korea are home to large air assets. The US and UK actually feed designs and technology (mainly Rolls Royce Nuclear Power Plants, and General Electric electronics systems) for the Australians to construct submarine and other naval ships. The US and the UK want Australia to be the reserve secondary Naval power securing the Southern Hemisphere and South Pacific. The entire goal is really to never make this a 1-on-1 competition again, to have power through massive cooperation of overlapping forces.
@GlobalCitizen_y2k3 ай бұрын
Great points. My 2¢ is that, over past decade, I've thought that many countries have been too lax re: munitions, etc. Naval & air assets can become ineffective without firepower. I've stressed over stockpiles & capabilities ever since Putin invaded Ukraine & then certain actors got more brazen in 2 other regions. Worst case scenario in current clime, a 3-front war is not far-fetched.
@LogicalNiko3 ай бұрын
@@GlobalCitizen_y2k There is a crazy dynamic in the logic of superpower strategy. If you become isolationist, you are not able to have eyes and ears in everyone's business. You don't have a large web of allies as chess pieces on your board that sit between you and your enemies. If you go the other route and try to share burdens equally with your allies you have another issue. To be useful as an equally offensive piece on the board you would have to share technology, information, and resources with those allies in a pretty equal fashion. But sharing equally presents a problem. The more people you share your secrets with the more risk that they are no longer secrets. This dilemma leaves you with one choice. Pay an overwhelming majority into the system, so you own all the offensive might. You let all your allies have a strong defensive force, but you keep all the offensive power and secrets yourself. This way none of your allies could become a major threat, and all your allies always need you to be there. Now in terms of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The US is in a staring contest with China. China and the US are both standing still, not making any moves. Russia wants people to think it is still the major power it once was, it is trying to get the US to make a move. However if the US makes a move, China will also make a move. So while the US is in this stare down with China it has to ensure that it doesn't need to directly step in. Poland may step up, but the US can only come to stand behind anyone who steps up IF they also want China to enter the playground.

something else to think about .. with the point of replenishing troops if need be.. most brits have never fired a rifle before, or let lone even seen one in real life. in comparison of how many from the US have grown up shooting them, as well as owning their own. it would stand to reason that those going through training to replenish troops if need be, would do so easier and in a shorter amount of time.. as well as be more proficient in using such weapons. one thing it seems that you never hear people from other countries come to realize when they talk about how much the US spends on its military budget. the fact that our military not only protects our self, but also many of the countries who like to talk down on how much the US spends, are actually under the protection of the US. our allies and those under our protection dont have to spend so much because they know that if a dust up happens, the US will come to help. there are many places that do not get invaded for the simple reason that it is known that if they do, they are picking a fight with the US military as well.. which acts as a major deterrent.

The British government made it much easier, by disarming the British population. As for the British military, it's very good, but is smaller than the United States Marine Corps. In fact, Marine Aviation has more combat aircraft than the Royal Air Force.

Believe it or not, one night in Sicily, I had a Brit sailor ask me, how I would react if we went to war. He didn't like my answer.

He must didn't like it when you told him we'd turn his entire country into a parking lot. LMAO

If the USA and the UK ever got into a war against each other it would be in a world I wouldn't want to live in.

Most people don’t realize that almost all the percentage of the United States defense budget before the first world war was spent in defense of Great Britain! Aren’t y’all glad we’re friends now😂

The resources aren’t just in the US but yes every state has multiple bases, don’t forget we also have them in high numbers in most countries around the world, and there is also the entire Fleet pilots that are on aircraft carriers most of the time so the oceans are also covered. Not to even begin to talk about our space capabilities. Star Wars program, ever hear about Rods From God? The “only prohibiting factor was price” when has price ever stopped the US government? Lasers and directed energy weapons…. It’s scary what they have I was Army 2001-2006 and held a top secret clearance and couldn’t find out anything about new concept next generation aircraft and couldn’t find anything that’s how tight “they” are on their development of new tec and capabilities. But technically makes massive leaps every 20 years. When scientists get to a certain point they can’t go any further because the tec to understand hasn’t been invented yet so they shelve the project. 20 years later the re open the project and go as far as they can with the new tec…but also every 20 years you will get a taste. They spent billions (trillions ) on developing this new tec and have scared farmers cattle across the lands testing these aircraft mainly at night at some point they did all the range testing they can what’s next? Test it in war so every 20 years America goes to war with some inferior country and it’s a play ground for their new tec. Gulf War oh ok we have Patriot missies and Stealth aircraft now…cool. 9/11 it’s the drone war ok cool we don’t even have to be there any more and the new stealth tec and aircraft came out, MOAB, F22 Raptors and F35’s, this war is going to be the hypersonic tec and drone wars with some nifty laser and energy weapons.
