The US also had about 12-13 million retired personnel and veterans. If only 1/4 of these could be recalled, it would (almost) instantaneously triple the numbers. Most of those would require some training, but still workable.

Regarding reservists, in the United States, they go through the same training as active-duty soldiers do, and can be mobilized in time of war. The difference is that while active-duty members serve 24/7 for 365-days-per-year, a reservist serves for two days a month (over a weekend, usually), and then for two weeks on active status. In time of war, reservists (usually) go through extensive training to make sure they're on par with their active-duty counterparts because they're...well, not to put too fine a point on it, they're civilians most of the time, but with military status AND training. So, bringing them up to an active-duty training level is MUCH easier because they already have the basics, and the discipline, that the average civilian off the street DOESN’T have. The only thing the reservist lacks, usually, is experience.

My question is are the National Guard units lumped into the numbers with the Reserve Units? It’s two very distinct groups even though the top mission is the same. The biggest difference is the Reserve Units are under the direct supervision of the US military and it’s leadership structure. The National Guard is under the direct authority of the states even though they still answer to the US military leadership too.

@shadowangel3995 I'm not sure how the commands between Reserve and Guard are set up, nor am I sure if they're counted in the totals. I THINK Guard units have deployed, but don't quote me on that.

The thing to remember is that it doesn't matter how many people you have, if the technology is there. Wars aren't fought by throwing bodies at the enemy anymore, they're fought by intelligence, logistics, and technology. One well armed, well trained individual is easily the equivalent of a whole squad of conscripts, probably more depending on the equipment differences. In other words, one US soldier counts for a lot more of the enemy than they'd like to think. Also yeah, we also all think that "Space Force" sounds like a cartoon. But we didn't really get a vote.

One thing these types of videos leave out for personnel strength for the Army is the National Guard. In times of need the National Guard can be called up for service to increase the Army's manpower. Each state has National Guard units and some have Air National Guard units. Many of these men and women are veterans who have already been involved in combat situations when they were in the regular military. So there numbers are way off on available military personnel.

The C-17 Globemaster is the airplane my youngest daughter repaired, and painted, while in the Air Force. She's about 5'10" and had to squeeze into the fuselage area for repairs. She would be harnessed for safety when the tail needed a repair or a paint job, and twice while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, she, along with just one other person, had to go to Oman and Qatar to do repairs. One of these repairs involved a plane that was on the tarmac where there was a bomb threat (to destroy the plane). My daughter and the other person had to go out to the plane and do any repairs not knowing if a bomb would go off while they were working.

One of the primary reasons that the states decided to unite was for their common defense. After the Revolition the 13 states were sovereign and could make foreign alliances. The fear was those alliances could prove a means for England or France to re-take the states. Thus the Constitution states as its purposes is "to provide for the common defense". After World War II, it became more practical to become "The Worlds Policeman" to help keep the peace instead of fighting wars which cost far more.

With Elon and Vivek cleaning up our overspending, more money will go towards the actual military. The US has too many independent military contractors with their hands out and pockets full. $5 billion for new camo pattern battle uniforms for the Army that was later scrapped, that's just awful. We spend millions on universities doing the silliest experiment, hamsters on cocaine, are you serious? We wasted billions on the F-35C that the Navy didn't even want. We could've saved money just making the A and B variants. My state spent $750,000 on a "welcome" sign design when someone did it for free on their PC for the local news. $12 million to pave about 3 miles of road to the airport, $92 million to make it look "pretty".

Two critical factors often overlooked are coordination of all those assets and logistical support. The value of giving ability for relatively low-level ground units to call upon artillery or aviation assets cannot be overstated. Likewise, those units require food, parts, fuel, maintenance, healthcare, communications, etc. The US does a very good job with both.

Those numbers of 350M+ for China and India for a hypothetical war effort aren't the total amount who'd be carrying guns & wearing uniforms. Most of it would go to labor for producing weapons and materials for war. Maybe only 20M could be massed for active service- which is still an ENORMOUS amount of active service personnel to be used in a war. You have to keep in mind militaries will primarily be drawing 18-32 yr old males for frontline service; and there aren't 350M of them who'd meet the physical fitness requirements even in populations that exceed 1.4B people total.

Last I read, the Ford class is replacing the Nimitz class carriers on a 1 to 1 ratio, so for every decommissioned Nimitz class carrier, a Ford class carrier will replace it. The anime video doesn't consider Russia's losses in armor, IFV, and artillery systems by the Ukrainians. The US versions of UAVs are primarily strategic, unlike what is being effectively used in the Russo-Ukrainian war where both sides use low-cost UAVs available at Battalion and Brigade level. These UAVs have been used to destroy enemy armor, artillery, and logistical equipment as well as ground targets such as airfields, oil fields, logistic bases, electrical grids and military production facilities - something that US forces are still developing.

There is another video on this that isn't animated that breaks down the types of manpower countries have conscripts, volunteered, ordered into, or legal obligation. Despite the numbers, America has the best trained, best equipped military in the world. The United States Marine Corp falls under the Department of the Navy but has its own command structure and a different mission statement. The Marine Corp is the only branch of our military that the president can send into combat without a declaration of war from Congress.

In a lot of countries, like Russia, South Korea, North Koreak, Finland, Switzerland, every male between 18-60 (or more?) are required to put in at least 2 years of active military service and then they're in the reserves, with annual training drills, until they get too old. They're not all highly trained, it varies from country to country. Some of them are highly motivated, like Finland, because they have a history of being invaded and don't want it to happen again, some of them are demoralized because they're conscripts, treated poorly, and little more than cannon fodder. Germany and a few other countries requires so many years of civil service, either military service or community service, to get college assistance and other perks. The US and UK military being completely volunteers, are better because they want to be there, not being forced to join. In the US, you have the National Guard and Air National Guard, which is a part of the Army and Air Force where people join and they go to monthly drills and annual training. They can be deployed overseas to serve. In every war since Vietnam, most of the soldiers were in the National Guard. The Reserves are comprised of military personnel who put in a shorter term of active duty, counterbalanced with a term of being in reserve. My wife was given the option to leave active duty in the Navy after 2 years if she was in the Reserves for 8. If you are active duty for 4 years, you can offer to be in the Reserves for 4. More active duty time in your contract, reduces the time you have to serve in the Reserves.

if a war kicked off between the U.S. and China, the main problem China would have would be transporting troops and munitions to U.S. soil, while America is fully capable. Troop numbers do not matter if you can't get them to the front line. The U.S. could potentially draft millions of men aged 18 and older, as nearly all male US citizens and immigrants within that age range are required to register for the draft, meaning they could be called upon if needed, more if women were also included in the draft. Army Reserve Soldiers receive the same training as active-duty Soldiers. After Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Army Reserve Soldiers return to their civilian lives and spend one weekend a month and two weeks per year training to keep their skills sharp, other units vary, but it is generally the same. Many reservists are former military, keeping in mind that people can retire from the military after 20 years, while enlistment is usually 3-6 years, so the reserves can be of any age and level of training and experience on enlistment. And the U.S. National Guard is estimated to have 325,000 members in the Army National Guard and 108,400 members in the Air National Guard in 2024 that could also be called on. The United States Space Force's purpose is to protect the United States' interests in space and provide space capabilities to the joint forces, Satellites play a major role in US military operations, providing intelligence, observation, communication, and navigation. The US Space Force can target other nations' satellites and their supporting ground stations if they pose a threat. Utilizing a satellite targeting system as a collection of satellites that can detect, track, and target other satellites, missiles, or other space-based threats

Unfortunately it’s like this for a lot of other countries being tone deaf understanding how many Americans are starting to resent the world for taking us for granted at our expense. Some have stepped it up lately, yet too many are caring on expecting this to continue. An interesting conflicting perspective in just one country alone is in Canada and how Trudeau recently admitted in NATO he has no means to put in any effort if the NATO agreement, seeing as the country is our neighbor. However, thankfully 🙏, many Canadians were furious at Trudeau acting like a leach. As another thing about being neighbors, a good percent of Canadians have been more sympathetic to us Americans feeling like we have been taken advantage of. Plus Canadians have this interesting culture to try to separate themselves from American culture and find pride in their own, yet theirs a deep bond between the US and Canada that many on both sides of the border actually do care for one another. I think the past few years have been so rough more of our real allies are actually observing that we were not complaining and acting entitled, we were warning everyone we have too much of a load to deal with the world’s problems at our country’s expense, and it has shown who are our true allies that have our back and the ones who don’t want to understand they are being more of a burden than an ally.

The video's explanation of active duty vs. reserves is somewhat misleading. It describes them as part-time vs. full-time soldiers, which is true for many countries, but not entirely accurate in the U.S. In the U.S., the National Guard (NG) is a significant part of the reserve component. While many reservists are considered "weekend warriors," a substantial portion serves full-time, often under Active Guard Reserve (AGR) status. When someone joins the National Guard, they undergo the same training as active-duty soldiers. The key distinctions lie in their command structure and equipment standards. Active-duty soldiers report to the President as their Commander-in-Chief, while National Guard units report to their state governor unless federalized by the President. Additionally, the National Guard often uses older equipment systems compared to their active-duty counterparts. Lastly, under the Posse Comitatus Act, federal military forces, including active-duty soldiers, are restricted from law enforcement roles within the U.S., whereas state-controlled National Guard units can assist in domestic disturbances or disaster relief unless federalized. Hope that helps!! :)

Quite a few US Reserve Units served in Iraq and Afghanistan. So many would have some wartime experience. ** Russia's vaunted T-14 Armata... there is only about 2 dozen of them. IF they are maintaining them. The won't send then to Ukraine because they are afraid of losing them

We're FAR ahead of Russia & China, for example while they're scrambling to make a 5th generation fighter, we're already doing limited production of our Next Generation Air Dominance fighter NGAD originally not scheduled until 2030 rumored to fly at mach 6, be MORE stealthy, ànd have lasers and/or hypersonic missiles & that's just one Black program we're aware of. 🇺🇲

We're only strong through the leaders we elect, "to the Republic for which it stands". America is not a Democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic, and on January 20, 2025 we are going to be one very powerful Republic. That ballooning military budget will be cleaned up and the money will go directly towards the military and not money hungry contractors. When I found out we wasted $5 billion on camo pattern for the Army that was later on scrapped, I was appalled.

The US navy’s numbers are deceiving 😂😂. For example. The US navy doesn’t have the biggest number of vessels ,But the have the largest by far tonnage of ships 🤔 if added the weight of all the ships in a Navy the US has Double the weight. For example some navies count boats the size of regular speed boats 😂.

Yeah....the rest of the world knows that invading the US would be a very bad idea!!! Hell,Texas alone has more firearm owners than any military in the world!!. And the vast majority are deer hunters. Or..Snipers if you want to get right down to it. We can hit a deer at 300 yards so a human would be easy money. I shoot at least twice a month. Not for any other reason than I enjoy shooting. It feels great to hear your round hit the target several seconds after you've pulled the trigger!! I actually feel sorry for our European counterparts that aren't allowed to own firearms. Personally I just don't get it. Why would you ever allow your citizens to be defenseless against criminals? You all know US citizens are allowed to own firearms yet we dont have mass shootings on a regular basis. And even when they do happen I believe they're worth the ability to own firearms considering they save more lives than they cost.

This still does not show true power as each american soilder is worth 100x-1000x more than any outher country's as the day we go in we will have air suporiortiy so even if a 200 man platoon went up against a 10k man rusian batalion the USA would most likely still win with atleast half of its people coming home to russia having 6ppl alive in they are lucky.

If we're going by the terminology that The Fat Electrician has used, We're the USA. You'd be the USB. Canada would be the USC. But speaking of which, you don't mind if I just plug in my phone for a bit......because you're the USB and the USB famously has a lot of ports........ 13:19, the Japanese have a word for that. It's "Chuunibyou," which roughly translates into "middle schooler sickness." It's often characterized as when kids are in that age range of middle school and they want to be popular some how, but also are trying to be edgy and cool. So they make up delusions about themselves secretly being a long lost sith lord who's stronger than Emperor Palpatine, or a grand wizard more powerful than Gandalf. In a simpler term, they're creating and playing make-belief in their own personal fan-fiction about themselves being something they're not mixed into some obscure fictional lore. Space Force does sound very chuunibyou in that the one who proposed the branch felt it was a great name; a perfect name; the best name ever. Because while the term Air Force makes sense; the term Ground Force is a bit more encompassing of many different branches and I've never referred to our navy as the Water Force nor have I ever thought referring to the Marines as the Mud Force would ever be a great idea.

@GlobalCitizen_y2k Ай бұрын
Why would the USA ‘beat’ the Afghan people? IIRC, the US military’s mission was against the Taliban, not the regular citizens. Did billions not pour into your country whilst the US fought its war against Taliban? Did US forces not train Afghan military so that it could protect your people? From what little I saw, some Afghans seemed to live pretty well during those 20 years (suppose more in urban areas than rural). Shame that your leaders fled w/ millions & country fell to Taliban in days, even w/ a year to prepare for US withdrawal.

China is a paper tiger. I would say India has the better quality soldiers overall. China counts their political officers and party members as part of their military. A large chunk of China's military is under equipped and under trained.

US about to isolate and lose some of it’s economic super powers. Currently the US gives U$D for stuff. Step: 1) other countries demand USD 2) US gives USD but also prints more U$D, taxing every dollar being held around the world 3) US keeps the stuff US about to Tariff itself into isolation. Less trade, less demand for USD, less taxation through inflation. Currently the USA is the only nation that can tax the world.

I don't like Global Firepower, there's so many things they don't take into account. Example, amount of training and exercises, doctrine and strategies, logistics and operational capabilities, quality and quantity of munitions, production capacity, and in general, the ability of said country to defend itself and launch an offensive far away from home. China should be number 2 as well, they have vastly surpassed russia in the conventional sense. russia only has nukes as a threat. And they've proven to be less than subpar in their Ukraine invasion. Ukraine has only received a token force of NATO support
