As far as the peanut butter, the non-separating kind has devolved in recent years to more of a "peanut-flavored candy" to appeal to kids; but if it's really peanut flavor you want, stick with natural, but NOT one with "honey added", or you're right back to candy!

@DanielZ5
@DanielZ5 Ай бұрын
The biggest difference between jelly, jam, and preserves is how much of the original fruit is used to make them. Jelly has the smoothest consistency and is made by crushing a fruit and discarding the solid chunky leftovers. This leaves only the fruit juice, which is then mixed with a substance called pectin and heated to form the gelatinous spread. Jam is similarly made by crushing a fruit, but this spread leaves in most of the solid pieces of the fruit’s fibers and seeds (if they’re small enough and safe to consume) to give it a spreadable consistency. Of the three, preserves use the most of the fruit and are simply chopped smaller pieces of fruit that are mixed with sugar to keep them fresh and combined with a syrup or jam to contain them.

In America, jam is the same thing as jam in Britain/Jersey: it has pieces of fruit fibre in it. Jelly is a preserve that has the consistency of gelatine because of the pectin in it, but it is clear and the fruit bits have been strained out, leaving just the juice, which is congealed. If it has a jelly spread in it, it's peanut butter and jelly; if it has a jam spread in it, it's peanut butter and jam.

Try PB&J but... Toast the bread first & when its freshly toasted, put that PB&J in there and enjoy! Its totally different because the PBJ finds every pocket in the hot toast. As an adult, its the only way I eat a PB&J!

You needed to use GRAPE jelly in your sandwich, specifically Concord grape, that's what 97% of Americans use for the average peanut butter & jelly sandwich. It has a totally different flavour...and is quite addictive! ;-)

As a teen, I'd mash the bread down within the crust so as to fill it with more peanut butter and/or jelly. From my mom's point of view, it looked like a normal amount on the sandwich. 🙂

I sometimes make a peanut butter and raisin sandwich. I also like to get cinnamon raisin bagels, slice them in half, toast them, then slather on creamy peanut butter and sprinkle raisins on top (eating each half separately).

Interesting way to cut the sandwich. Never seen a sandwich cut in half horizontal so that the whole top crust of the bread is on top. I’ve always cut it in half vertical so you get the top half of the crust on both halves.

PB&J goes great with a cold glass of milk or water. By-the-way, Jam, Jelly & Jello are all separate items. Jelly & Jam are different: Jelly is made using fruit juice, while Jam is made using whole fruits that have been crushed. When i was young my grandmother would preserve fruits, etc. every year.

In the US, we have jelly which is fruit juice and pectin. Which jells the juice. Next is jam the fruit juice with small bits of the fruit. Last is preserves large pieces of the fruit with juice. All three have the pectin to jell it. Jello is a completely different food product. Jello is also the name brand.

They have a combined peanut butter and jelly that was first marketed back in the sixties. They called it "Goober Jelly" the two were swirled with each other. They call peanuts "gobbers" in the southern states. What you call jelly in G B is called Gelatin desert or Jell-O after the company that first introduced the Gelatin desert that had the flavorings already in them.
