China Ann McClain made a good point about this on her Instagram but if you judge the religion that focuses on a perfect being by the imperfect people who practice it, it’s really hard to want to join that religion. As my pastor says, “Instead of thinking ‘all the ppl who go to church are hypocrites,’ go to church and don’t be one.” Im not trying to force you into anything, but just something to think about 💕

@@Jo36528 I think that is so sad hear. But then it's also so beautiful to have Chris as a living example to show that it doesn't have to be that way. If you're actually interested in getting a bit more into that thought, there's an amazing book by C.S. Lewis called 'Mere Christianity', where he also takes about the issue when Christians don't live up to what they're supposed to be like (and a lot of other very interesting thoughts about Christianity) You can also find some excerpts from the book on KZbin. :)

Rev Chris should start a podcast. He's so soothing and reassuring. I cried like a baby the first time I heard him talk/preach about the love God has for us(he was reacting to Billie eilish's "when the party's over"). For the first time I felt like maybe he does love us afterall. Anywho, what I'm saying is I'll gladly drop whatever I'm doing to listen to a podcast of him talking about anything really. He somehow manages to communicate love effortlessly, no matter what the topic is. His congregation is so lucky

you don't have to be christian to chat. There's a saying my priest says that goes along the lines of "church isn't a place exclusive for the holy. Church is sometimes considered the house of sinners, because we all are, and we go not because we are holy and perfect, but because we understand we aren't". It might not make much sense, but basically he's saying that we all are human, we are all the same and there is no reason to have a divide. Priests aren't kings which only exclusive members can talk to, you should see them as an equal human. :))

@@iwannabeanelfyaknow I mean, us christians of course feel a sense of resposibility so I see where they're coming from, but in my opinion, it is IMPOSSIBLE to simply convince someone with words to believe in what we believe is the truth. It's obviously not worked like ever in the past, and the reality is that yes, it is our mission to bring people closer to God, but it's meant to be through allowing them to experience God through our actions, our love and our selflessness to others. That's why we always say God is lives within us, because we share our experience with God, through our ability to care for others. I respect you and I assume you're a good person anyways based on how you talk, but I hope someday, someone will enter your life that allows you to experience God through their friendship, or love for you. All the best :))

I grew up in an anti-religious home. My father carried the words of men like Carl Sagan rather than those of any deity. However, we were raised to respect others beliefs. I believe Rev Chris represents his beliefs the way they should be. Not a shove down your throat, not a push or a threat of damnation. He recognizes that people are flawed but all capable of good, and since have just lost their way in their lives. He promotes kindness, understanding, and hope as a member of his clergy without ever implying that you don't deserve that without being in HIS faith. I think this is a thing this world does not have enough of. He is an emissary of his faith, not a corporal. He understands not all may be of his faith but that all humans deserve the same support, love and guidance they needs, as people and not as constituents. I myself have dealt with personal tragedies this year, I've felt lost and hopeless and seeing that there are people out there, people in positions where others look up to them, that spread this practical and loving message, it gives me hope. Thank you, Rev Chris, and the team of Jolly as well. I don't know if you guys realize the good you do, the need smiles and laughs you provide around the world. In a divisive age you instead encourage a message to learn from strangers, from other cultures. Thank you, from this Buffalonian, for being you.

Funny thing happened to me: I too have BIG trouble, shutting down. I often don't want to listen to my thoughts, but the thing is, the thoughts don't care. They just wait in the corner until you calm down enough for them to come crawling back. So i bought noise cancelling headphones, and i think i never actually listened properly to Billie Eilish's music before. There are so many layers. I felt a bit like a child who eats strawberries for the first time :D I slumped back on the couch and did literally nothing except listen to her complete works for 3h. I've never felt more at peace. It was so soothing. Same with Aurora (from whom Billie is taking a bit of inspiration as i understand it).

When the priest said “[...] she really excited to meet her future, the person that she’ll be” my tears dropped... ‘cause I realized -again- that I’m not excited at all to meet the future me, I’m pretty scared and do not want continue to live (sounds a bit suicidal, isn’t ?), since the beginning of my college years I just feel like this, sometimes I’m happy but it never last, I always got my lunatism issues and always give up and isolate myself from everyone. I am an escapist...I am always scared to face my fears or even face myself....I isolate myself from everyone... I put up a happy persona and try to find happiness in superficial things..I get hurt and emotional by the smalIest of things.... On the topic of someone from the church addressing the "church against LGBTQ+ people" issue, I'm reminded of something from a few years back. I'm a member of the Church of Sweden, which is very gay-friendly. A few years back I attended a rainbow mass and I remember the priest talked about how during the 80s, the Church of Sweden wasn't as progressive as it is now. He said something along the lines of "When it comes to how we have treated LGBTQ+ people in the past, we as a church have much to atone for". It felt good to know that not only is my church currently accepting of all people regardless of sexuality or gender identity, but it is aware of previous shortcomings and is working to make up for it.

@@KarlKristofferJohnsson That's amazing! It's exactly why I'm asking for this, I feel like depending on how he reacts it could be very healing for a lot of people. Religion has been and is still used to do so much awful things, and LGBTQ+ people in particular have a lot of religion-related trauma. I'm so happy there are churches around the world who admit to their mistakes and are inclusive, that's awesome

The pastor of my Methodist church had a very heartfelt lessons to give the Sunday after “the ceos” of the Methodist church decided not to allow same sex marriages to be given by its clergy. He was, for the true lack of a better word in my vocabulary, pissed. He said that he was not going to follow what he was told for as long as he could, and that if any of the congregation felt differently that he had failed them as a Christian leader to learn and give love. It felt good to hear as a somewhat closeted bisexual. I can easily pass for straight because I have two kids and a husband.

I know this will get lost in the sea of comments, but as I'm binge-watching all the content from everyone's favorite priest, I'm brought to tears again and again. The amount of love and acceptance that radiates from this man is truly something blessed. Over the years, I've lost my faith, eventually my family walked out of the church because of all the hatred that has been preached. I remember when I was younger sitting in church and listening to the priest talk about how we are all born with sin and this evil within us that we must constantly make up for and I remember being so sad and disappointed with myself that I had made God sad by sinning, even though as a child I wasn't sure what I had done. I remember when I first realized that I was bisexual and how hard it was to think about. When I struggled with my mental health, I remember thinking I deserved it and that of course this is where I would end up, because I was doomed from the start. Hearing such powerful and accepting things from a member of the church, who worked and learned so he could become someone to spread God's teachings, it gives me faith again, in myself and in God.

“The truth is, in our deepest level we are loved.” I think everyone has a hard time accepting the darkness. This darkness equates to the bad and dirty things we want to hide and fear. Thus we feel unworthy and not loved. We seek validation in unhealthy ways. However if we just accepted the dark and light like the Rev advised we’d be happier and balanced. Jumping off of what Chris said here: Instead of focusing on pointing out the flaws and faults of other people, saying, “You’re a sinner!” , we need to accept who we all are and say, “We’re all sinners.” Because it does no help at all to ignore the reality of our inherent weakness. No one can get better unless they recognize the problem and come to terms with it. Yes, we are sinners, yet God loves us anyways. We are valuable not because of what we’ve done, but because we are precious to Him.

I love how nuanced Rev Chris' approach to life and Christianity is - he understands and addresses the psychological and emotional troubles people go through in an undenying, accepting way. The alternative that I've come across is that I need to believe God and that what I'm doing wrong is not believing in God. Like true, maybe God is the solution to all somehow, but there is so much that the individual needs to address in their own psychology that isn't helped by just being told that God is the answer to everything.

I dont usually leave comments but i just couldn’t help to thank rev Chris and this wonderful channel. I was deeply touched when rev Chris explained about acknowledging who i am, my weaknesses, and giving support and love to myself rather than hatred. I just bursted into tears not even knowing why. I am a person who’s just so much used to hating my incompetence, lack of ability, but always wanting myself to do more than i really can. Since my expectations are high but never feel like im meeting my expectations, my self-hatred grew and grew. As so, i was getting more and more miserable. Thanks to rev Chris, i’ve learned that calling my self a sinner wouldn’t help a thing for my development. Well, i’ve heard such sort of self-esteem related messages on media and social media a lot, but it never went through me so straight. I needed specific directions on what actions to take in order to actually “love who i am”, and i think i found the first step to put into practice. Sending much love from korea, i highly appreciate the positiveness this channel and the whole team is giving. I am a big fan of rev Chris now. I’d love to hear more from you through this channel. :)

I identify so much with that song. It is a dose of wholesome. Glad that the demon slayer thinks that way too.

"You are worthy of love, you'll get through this" - Rev. Chris IDK if it is the wine, or my insecurities, or both but this made me cry. Thank you I needed to hear this today.

Rev. Chris: "It doesn't help to be like, you sinner..!" Immediately gets interrupted by a grocery store commercial about price cuts, I thought I was going to faint I laughed so hard! 😂👍💜👏👏

If I found a priest like Rev Chris I'd want to go to church all the time. His spirituality is such a quiet, calming thing full of positivity and acceptance. It seems like the bare minimum of what you'd expect from someone in his position but it's not easy to find and it's pretty refreshing. He loves so easily with people he's never met and he's so open minded when he shares his thoughts. What a nice dude. He really does inspire you to be more like him in his compassion for others.
