Excellent again! I've never known where that mail/parcels traffic goes to from Oxford. Anyone? Needless to say, my gut churns with your u/l's of this area/era, gulp lol!

The “Intercity 125” HSTs were so reliable and the Class 43 power car with the screaming engines were so powerful.

The one on this upload wasn't.... it was running on only one power car!.... lol But it still kept running though, they were good for 98mph on only one engine running.....

The Intercity service hauled by 47831 is a 7 coach rake but only 3 of the vehicles are TSOs, equating to about 190-210 standard class seats (depending on if they were refurbished vehicles or not.) If passenger numbers on the XC axis were being comfortably accommodated with such small trains on - at best - an hourly timetable it’s unsurprising that BR were seriously considering replacing the loco-hauled rakes with a further build of cl.158 units around that time - although thank god they didn’t!

You are right. Two brake vans plus a luggage van on a seven coach train is also not needed. An extra two TSOs could of been added . I never understood BR sometimes.

lack of coaching stock perhaps?.... The less coaches a train had, the lower its top speed, so keeping a 7 coach rake running probably kept the speed up to 95mph.....

Great footage! One of the locomotives on my layout is featured, 47831 Bolton Wanderer!
