In November, British soldiers returned to the Sennelager Training Ranges in Germany for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. UK troops had not used the facility near Paderborn since March, with 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment the first to return.
The personnel used Warrior infantry vehicles on the ranges, with measures in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Four hundred soldiers had been living and working in self-contained groups during the training period.

Remember the. Good old days of the eighties, when 22000 British Soldiers served in West Germany I believe the British Army was 165000 strong then, over twice the size it is today.

Rheindahlen no more, Hohne no more, Munster no more, Minden no more, Falli no more, Hameln no more, Dortmund no more, Osnabruck no more, Hereford no more, Bielefeld no more, Sella no more, Detmold no more, etc. etc. - only Paderborn / Sennelager remains - a sad loss to the life experience of the British soldier and his family.

And more talk of troop reductions , the Army still hasn't gotten over the crystal ball gazing of the ex defence sec Philip Hammond when he tried to form a new look British Army based on the idea of recruiting up to 6000+ reservists, aka week-end warriors , he was warned , as he sacked front line Regiments , even tried to offer inducements to the guys and girls that he had just sacked to join up , and sure as , no one joined , sheer folly and a total B-UP

@bulletproofguy5112 3 жыл бұрын
@@SNOWDONTRYFAN actually the British army has 35,000 reservists and over 150,000 second reservists ready to be called up if needed. And the reservists are far better trained, armed, equipped than 5ney have ever been, they will fit in with regular units easily now... the British army will be 118,000 strong

@@bulletproofguy5112 LOL, but sorry i was a PSI with a reserve centre and spent 23 years in , you seriously do not substitute a highly trained Regular force , with a part time one , sure they might be better equipped and slightly better trained today ?

Was he saying the lads were moaning about having 2 weeks notice for the move to BAOR? I had 12 hours notice for a posting to Canada, now that was a hard posting 😂😂. Loved my time in BAOR 4 half hard years I barely remember 🥳🥴🥴🤮

Nice to see, that the British troops are back in Sennelager. Even if it was only for a short time. I live in Dortmund Brackel, the Napier Barracks used to be here, it was a great time, with great people.

Goodness, this is how reduced the British Army in Germany has become - Commanded by a Colonel (no disrespect intended by any measure) . In the 1980s BAOR peaked at approx 25k, not counting RAF G. Sad to say, Tesco's employ more people today, than HM Forces....

Yeh how times change, we used to have 3 Armoured Divisions in Germany in the 1980's, reduced from 4? And each Division had 3 armoured brigades, now the Army can barely muster 2 brigades in total? I remember Sennelager for the Nuclear Site Guards, Annual Weapons Tests, Combat Fitness Tests in the blazing heat of the summer, living under canvas, the RAF Gütersloh Harriers out on the Range Road, German Leopards with conscripts from Augustdorf learning to drive them, the Sennelager NAAFI, queuing to use the phones at the main gate and an awful lot of "hurry up and wait!" 😆 🤣 😂

Was the move from Bulford to Paderborn made in a "green" manner? Because that's all that really matters to the British Army - that they can put out some silly press release about being "green".

Wouldn’t it have been better if the British army had gone to that other senny sennibridge, to do their armoured training. Larger area, more green (less travel), bringing jobs to a deprived area of Wales, less cost. Knowing both from my army days this would seem more sensible. But then when did common sense matter.

What the hell are our troops doing in the balkans. ? Europe is so powerful, as we are led to believe, cant its own troops defend it. Im sure the French would love to deploy troops there and the Germans are straining at the bit to form an army, again, Get our lads out of there, it has nothing to do with us !!
