11:45 In India, we use both words, but they have different meanings. Holiday means holiday for one day. And when we say 'holidays' it means holiday for 2-3 days. Vacation means holiday for a lot of days, 2 weeks, for instance

I'm moving to the UK for higher studies and even though I am pretty confident of my English skills, I was worried about not understanding the British accent or the slang. Or, others not understanding my Indian accent. But your videos have helped a lot. We're exposed to so much of pop culture, media, and entertainment from the US that we tend to incorporate American slang into our vocabulary. But honestly speaking, exposure to British media and pop culture is relatively limited, so it's nice to finally find something that addresses these concerns! The only thing that helps is, Indian English has evolved from British English. So a lot of the words are the same.. calling schedules timetables, elevators lifts, and so on and so forth.

That's great to hear. And you will get to know the local culture quite quickly. Also, we can understand US slang no problem due to all the US TV shows and movies. You're right, a lot of words used in Indian English are from British usages.

Hello Sir! Sir, I'm a student of grade 10th and I love English lang. and I want to be an English teacher like you. Since, I had studied a chapter of prose and a poem of poetry of a forgein writer and a poet, therefore, I come across with a doubt, that is: Do we use, "have not" to show not to possess something? Because I've seen a sentence,"You haven't a kick in you" in the chapter "A Triumph of Surgery" written by James Herriot who is a British author. Alongwith, "I have not a care", in the poem "Amanda!" written by an Australian poet, Robin Kelin. Is this structure wrong sir or obsoleted? Because In India, Some teachers teach it and students use it alot. Would you please let me know if this is correct grammatically? Thanks sir. I'd be grateful to you to have a response!😊

It can be used like that, but it's very old-fashioned, it's not really used like that any more..
@poonammittal69543 жыл бұрын
@@SpeakEnglishWithChris Thanks Sir for replying. You gave me a sigh of relief by saying, "it can be used like that" means, it's correct but no longer used😊.
