MSFS 2020 | AEROSOFT CRJ LANDING TUTORIALS [ILS into Hamburg] with GS Bug Workaround Tips!

Finishing my short three video tutorial series on the new Aerosoft CRJ for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 we finally arrive at Hamburg, Germany (EDDH).
I'll show you how to configure the approach and discuss the set up required for an ILS approach in the Aerosoft CRJ. Interestingly, a few MSFS bugs struck again during this approach (like the Glideslope issue currently well known and being worked on) so I ALSO show you how I deal with the bug as a temporary work around which usually but not always works!

A note in relation to the glideslope capture bug... Microsoft/Asobo are working on a fix for this to stop it happening and Aerosoft are working away on the solution too! They're issues more with the sim as opposed to the aircraft itself.

Well, it worked! Finally managed to land 68 souls in Hamburg (as opposed to converting them into souls!) In the CRJ. Thanks for all your informative and entertaining videos 👍

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! I kept the GS Bug in because I'm not pretending to be perfect and I wanted to share the workaround that I use to try and fix it 75% of the time of it happens 😃

Nice content. I have found that I need to intercept the GS from say 100-200ft above rather than below as A320. Your workaround by resetting also resulted in capturing GS from just above. This avoids the nose dive when coming from below. Love the channel. 👍

I read that Aerosoft is creating their own glide scope system to override the MSFS bug, to hopefully be in the first CRJ update.

Any news on this GS fix from Aerosoft? Mr. Kok has not been too forthcoming on this issue and seems frustrated when asked about the GS bug in the CRJ forum.

@@enriqueosuna I haven't heard of anything yet either - I know they're trying to make a custom logic to deal with it and that takes time

So interesting thing about the ILS here at Hamburg (and also fairly common at other German airports) is the ILS isn’t ILS DME, it is just ILS (you can see this on the chart) You get the DME from the VOR so in this approach the ILS freq gives you the lateral and vertical navigation and the ALF VOR gives you the DME (there’s a little D next to the name as well). You should have used this VOR as the DME hold instead of the ILS. My guess is that when you pressed DME hold on the ILS frequency it actually was tuning the DME from another VOR 95 nm away!

I will have to try this work around out. I've done several ILS approaches and have had problems with all of them either not picking up the LOC and or not grabbing the glideslope. It's been very frustrating and making want to give up on the plane. I don't want to give up on it though as it's such a great plane and I enjoy everything else about it.

@@BritishAvgeek Thank you for the link. Last night I had a strange thing occur where I started at a gate and noticed before I pressed the start flight button that the ailerons were fully activated in opposite directions of each other. Also a light on the top tail was blinking. When I started, there were no light switches on and I couldn't turn on my fly pad. I did an uninstall and reinstall and was able to get the ILS approach to work just fine. I probably should have noticed the plane might need a reinstall when the ground power switch would not turn off for some time after being in the air still for 20+ minutes. Will definitely give your other video a watch too as I do enjoy your videos. Thank you!

Another great series of videos hitting the main points for getting this in the air (and back down again). The reason you weren't getting distance on the ILS is because this particular ILS doesn't have DME installed. As seen on the chart you showed, you need to tune ALF to get distances for the approach. So you would need this tuned to LOC2 to get distance. Is there a way of showing both LOC1 and LOC2 at the same time on the display so that you can see the correct distance for approach? I've managed two flights so far with the CRJ and both relatively successful. First flight (EDDS-EDDF) ended up being a total stick flight as I couldn't engage AP. On the screen I could see that Yaw Damper wasn't engaged and after the flight found out this is why AP wouldn't. In panic during the flight, it turns out I was accidentally mashing Stab Trim rather than Yaw Damper (since they look almost identical). Second flight (EDDF-EHAM) went much better and was a smooth flight. My biggest issue is throttle control on descent. On final, I was far below Vref but still managed to land safely. Something to keep working on anyway

It does take a bit of getting used to! And you can use the two square buttons to the left of the Format/Range dial (panel by the EFB) - the bottom one will cycle through VOR2, ADF2 etc 👍 Glad you enjoyed the video and good spot on the mistake there! Not sure how I missed it but I did 😂 glad you're enjoying the CRJ and the tutorials!

Nice tutorial, I sadly get that gs bug way too often. Plus in Hamburg (which is my home airport, so I fly there frequently) the ILS is broken when using the Justsim scenery. But at least your workaround makes the gs issue less annoying, thanks for that. :D

@@BritishAvgeek I’ve tried your workaround on the GS bug, but in the video I’ve tried to follow your sequence, but it is difficult to follow in the video. Do you turn A/P off, deselect APPR select HDG, then engage A/P and select APPR?

@@enriqueosuna in short, yes - but if that doesn't work, just turn Appr mode off and on again.... And if that doesn't work, disengage the autopilot and fly it all the way in manually 😎

To shut off the engines, you don't hit the "stop" button and then shutoff the throttle. You turn off the associated boost pump, then shut off the throttle. The engine stop button stops the starter motor for the turbine engines, which should already cut out at 50% n2. The purpose of the stop button is to stop the air turbine starter in case it dosnt cut out at 50% n2.

When i load normally with no flight plan i can turn on Autopilot, but when i load cold and dark and load it in, and i turn on autopilot after take off it just double beeps 3 times and wont engage. I have FD on. Any idea what im doing wrong? Great video! Much more practical than the dude.

You need to switch the Stab Trim (2 buttons) and Mach Trim plus both Yaw Dampers on in the centre console or it won't allow the autopilot to come on

The fact that the plane climbs 700 ft when it should maintain 4000ft is hilarious! As an air traffic controller i would constantly freak out if planes and pilots would fly like this plane does.

Sadly that's more an issue with the sim and the way it's handling the Autopilot but they're working on updates and fixes for it - it's not too bad 😂 I just edit tutorials to make them look 'perfect'

Why do you keep resetting the heading bug if you are using the fmsg to kind of steer the aircraft?

It's a Boeing thing but obviously also a Canadair thing too. From what I can see, the heading bug always stays live so if the Nav mode fails for example and it reverts to Hdg mode, if it's not centred it'll turn the aircraft in the direction the heading bug is set at. I'm no Boeing/Canadair pilot but that's the logical thinking I can come up with!

Trimming the airplane and manual trust simultaneously is very hard and challenging for me in crj and Boeing, I don’t feel the aircraft :( But no problem with this on Cessna 172 :)

Cessna is a lot slower as well :) just small changes to trim regularly with thrust and it helps keep it smooth :)

Glide Slope isn’t work in this aircraft. This video has lot of cuts so not sure if you really make it works. In here just don’t work in ANY ILS approach at all.

Some cuts to trim the video down in length... if you know my channel you know I include mistakes if I make them too! The ILS has a bug with it but if it bugs out you just turn it off and fly the ILS manually using the PFD, or try the workaround I demonstrate in the video (which works sometimes)

@@BritishAvgeek thanks for the reply. I do not consider fly manually as a work around. Of course we have to land in a way or another but this does not mean this is a work around for the bug once the bug is there in any situation and will not be circumvented by turning it off and on as suggested. Anyways, your videos and channel is great and this is an Aerosoft issue not yours.

@@motoryoke thanks - but what happens in real life is the autopilot breaks, or the localiser goes down? They fly it manually, so it's not too bad if we have to sometimes do that - it makes it fun :) Aerosoft are working on a fix and creating their own custom logic for it so hopefully it will be fixed soon though

Every time i load up and fly the CRJ, shortly into the flight , my desktop crashes, so i will have to wait for Fs2020/Aerosoft do an update ,and hope that will solve the issue!!

@@anbrod1 ah delete the livery then - it probably has a broken file or a panel.cfg which breaks the aircraft

I had this problem also, initially it just showed up on the CRJ I guess as it's a heavy load on the PC, it was also happening on other planes such as A32NX though but less often (not a plane issue). I placed all my MSFS2020 mods (except CRJ) from the community folder into another folder and followed these steps here flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015893879-How-to-troubleshoot-crashes-CTDs-during-gameplay - which are very useful, though I left my CPU Overclocked. However what solved the problem for me was placing MSFS2020.exe in the Malwarebytes allowed program list. Since then I have done 3 full flights in the CRJ without issue. Hope this helps.

shouldn't have - it's showing a maximum of 3 ad breaks within the video on my side! I deleted a lot of the "automatically placed" ones as there were too many.
