Polonez, mazur, krakowiak, oberek i kujawiak to uznany powszechnie kanon polskich tańców narodowych.

Polka (Půlka, "half") - a folk dance common in many countries, in 2/4 time, at a fast tempo. Many ethnographers and ethnochoreologists point to the Czech origins of the dance[1]. It is also considered a traditional Polish folk dance already in the 19th century, known in all ethnographic regions, including Podhale (Polka Sądecka) [2]. Wikipedia Polka (cz. půlka „połowa”) - powszechny w wielu krajach taniec ludowy, w metrum 2/4, w szybkim tempie. Wielu etnografów i etnochoreologów wskazuje na czeskie pochodzenie tańca[1]. This is spam and misleading at that. Regional folk dance is one thing and Polish national dance is another. Polonaise mazur, krakowiak, oberek and kujawiak are Polish national dances, polka is at most a regional folk dance danced, among others, in certain regions of Poland. It is by no means a dance related to Polish culture in a way comparable to any of the mentioned national dances. Referring to a quote from Wikipedia taken out of context will not change this.

For the last question about culture - ROB WAS RIGHT. It is POLONEZ, NOT polka. Polka actually came from Bohemia in Czech Republic.

In general word idea translates into pomysł in Polish but with languages words don't always translate 1 to 1. Often one word in English can be translated into different words in Polish depending on the context and also some words in Polish can be translated into different words in English depending on the context.

24:00 Polonez should count as well. Dont see any reason to consider Polka as the more known polish national dance than Polonez. What is more, Polka was adopted by Americans and sounds now very differently. For me that is a draw in this particular question. Anyway, I had a lot of fun watching that :) Rob, polish to improve but general knowledge - impressive :)

@@margplsr3120 no, polka has no official status as a national dance. It's just one of many local folklore dances, also danced in some parts of Poland. However, there are only five national dances in Poland: polonaise, mazur, krakowiak, oberek and kujawiak, and polonaise is no doubt the first on the list.
