We have that type of custard here in the US but typically it's made in the home. It would be called boiled custard used as a sauce. We also have baked custard. Typically you're not going to find either of these custards out in a restaurant. Possible But not likely.

I love Borough Market. It's one of my favorite places in London! I love the mushroom pie from the Ginger Pig. I love the stall that does the paella. There is a stall the does homemade mushroom pate. My heart goes pitter pat. The stall that does the fresh oysters...oh my! The fancy donuts are tasty. They didn't have Christmas pudding because I was there in summer. The Artisan breads were sooo good. I'd live there if I could. I'd never have to cook again.

That pasty looks great. It almost looks like Swiss Steak wrapped in a pie crust. $9.50 is a fair price. I pay $10 for a beef pasties in my neighborhood near Detroit. As I mentioned before, Cornish immigrants came to Michigan to work the mines in the U.P. and brought their pasties with them. They are a staple here in Michigan, but we added a Yooper flair, by adding rutabaga. Calumet Michigan has a Pasty Fest mid August and May 24 is Michigan's Pasty Day. $20 seems steep for one piece of fish plus chips.
@thebritstry25 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing such interesting info about pasties! It's amazing how food connects us to our history and culture. And I totally get what you mean about prices-sometimes it feels like we're paying for the experience too! That festival sounds interesting we will have to look up the details.

New York has Fulton market. It’s not exactly open to the public as most people buy wholesale there but you could arrange something. Fulton market also is the nexus of every single bit of food within the boroughs of New York City. Every raw ingredient likely within New York City comes from Fulton market in some form or another. Even rare ingredients like doctor fish or Buddha’s hand is in the market somewhere.

So funny story about my experience at borough market. By the time I went there, I'd already been in London and Edinburgh for 5 days and my body was desperate for some fresh fruit. I went to the chocolate strawberry stand and asked them if the strawberries were sweet (March is not peak strawberry season but they looked really good). They said yes and have me one to try. Delicious! After I got some substantial food in me, I went back and ordered just a cup of strawberries, no chocolate. I can't tell you how shocked they were that I didn't want the chocolate! They even kept trying to give me a sample with chocolate... At Least three people who worked there. Haha I just wanted some strawberries😂. I also don't like the chocolate strawberry combo in general and I've also heard that the chocolate gets really thick rather quickly. Sometimes you just want some fresh fruit😁 I did have veggies in Edinburgh but there wasn't much of it in London. I really miss Gregg's steak bakes, but that paella at borough market was delicious. I also bought some pastries to have with tea in my hotel. Mini lobster tail pastries and this custard deal that might be German. I decided that sausage roll was way too big and now I'm glad I skipped it. I had one in Edinburgh so at least I tried a regular one and one from Gregg's. They're a bit heavy for my tummy. Lol and now I miss British food and can't wait to go back! That's weird that you got asked to stop filming. I can't tell you how many borough market videos I've watched.
@thebritstry25 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always great to hear how others enjoy the market and We hope you get to indulge in more British treats next time! Over 20 yrs ago my sister and 2 friends went to London. She said they were desperate for veggies on the trip. They were grateful for the parsley garnish on the plate, lol. I suspect they may have exaggerated but then I read your comment. Sometimes a salad and fresh fruit really hit the spot. I forget that being in such a big country we have a wide variety of produce due to the range of climates here. Go into a supermarket and have a wide range of leafy greens to choose from alone. Different tomatoes, apples, potatoes, peppers, grapes, squash, onions, etc. Not just one type but a variety of everything. I take it for granted. And I should eat more fruits and vegetables. Shame on me.
