Carpet python is like the bush turkey of the snake world. Common and iconic for aussie growing up.

The spider is a St Andrew’s cross spider. Very common on the east coast. A couple of theories to why they make the cross, one is to make themselves look bigger than they are to possible predators the other is the white silk reflects ultra violet light which may attract flying insects to the web

The Python (presumably a carpet snake) would be loving the warmth of the water heater. Keep Pico safe. Snakes like that often work their way into the crawl space between the ceiling and the roof. It is warm and there is usually enough space for them to squeeze in especially if the roof is corrugated.

The St Andrew's Cross spider is one of my more favorite spiders. They always spin their webs tucked well out of the way, with zero chance of running into them in the dark. Garden orb weavers are another matter, their webs are big, sticky and often spun right where you'll run into them face first! Jumping spiders are the best of the bunch, they're very small, super curious and quite friendly. As others' have said, your snake was a small carpet python.

Coastal carpet python. And pico is probably not far off dinner size for that thing. Remember they can detach there jaw and I'm sure pico when wet is probably the same size a large rat. People forget how truly small there dogs are when there all fluffy like that

You can get Mozzie spray, rollon and cream called "Natures Botanical". It is Rosemary Oil and Cedarwood Oil, combined in a base which includes olive oil and vegetable based emulsifiers. Very safe for you and Picco.

I’m a member on fb of Sunshine Coast snake catchers. They’ll identify any snake photo with authorised id’ers only allowed to confirm and also whether they are venomous or not, I recommend it, you’ll learn a lot about the local snakes 😉

The snake looked like a carpet python to me. Not normally aggressive and not venomous. However, the scientific name for them is Smalldoggius snackius (or not), so you do need to keep Picco safe. The spider was a St. Andrew's Cross. I've never heard of anyone being bitten by one. I also have no idea why they weave the cross. And some quick google searches suggests that nobody else does either.

Definitely a carpet snake, a python. They grow awfully big but are harmless and non-poisonous. We have a local big fella carpet snake that has lived here for about 15 years so far. We see it often. We also have quite a number of the beautiful green tree snakes which are also harmless.

Paw paw ointment is good for everything, but one of the best mozzie stoppers is Kakadu Blue. Also burning mozzie coils in your outdoor living areas helps you not having to put lots of stuff on your skin.

Common carpet snake (Python), and we don't call them boilers, not sure if they're even the same thing as we don't have radiators and plumbing for them throughout our houses. We call them Hot water systems.

Or inside a scrubbie . Even Aussies get careless with their cats & small dogs& leave them outside . Very easy pickings for a Python even of that size. It's a wild creature & does not see a pet , Just another meal in its eyes.

Try paw paw ointment for your flair up. Most of us have a small red tube of Lucas Papaw ointment somewhere in the house. For mozzies I just use some roll on Aerogard but if that is too strong for you maybe try some 'Bug off' or maybe even one of those stick on patches. There is also the old fashion mozzie coils that you light and let smoke. terrible smell i recall from childhood, they stink. They are enough to drive you indoors if the mozzies don't lol. By the way, if you have type O blood, mozzies love us.

Either a carpet or scrub python. They're great for getting rid of vermin such as mice and rats. Larger ones would likely see Picco as food. A lot of old Queenslander houses end up with one of these living in your roof. They're a free pest exterminator. We have a resident snake in our roof at work, and during winter, it will sometimes lay above the fluro light in the toilet because of the warmth. Leave them alone, and they won't bother you. This will make a great story to tell your grandchildren about your adventures to the end of the known world. 😅

There's a natural mozzie repellent growing in most yards and gardens but I have a complete mental break remembering it's name. C (don't think it's citronella but another plant)I think it starts with. Just pick a leaf and rub it on exposed skin. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE PLANT PLEASE?

WRT to the python - it is probably after Pico so please keep him safe. Get a snake catcher in maybe - although where you are living you will probably get a few of them.

coastal carpet python, harmless very common. and like most snakes colour and pattern is highly variable so not a good indication of species. at that size it won't try eating the dog, good to have around to keep rats and mice under control.

Almost certainly a carpet python. Usual prey rats, mice, birds, fruit bats and other small animals. One that size could easily kill a small dog by constricting around the dog. Don't panic, but Peeko beware!
