The "AR" in AR-15 stands for "ArmaLite Rifle", and "AR-15" is most-commonly used to refer only to the civilian semi-automatic variants of the rifle which lack the fully automatic function.

@willvr4 I am one of those guys whose really obsessed with guns, and from what I can tell there are loads of easy ways to make many semi auto guns full auto using things like a folded index card or a coat hanger. Actually you can literally buy an auto sear and the components on the internet and its not illegal(*check your local laws). I personally think it's dumb that these guns are so heavily regulated. Using full auto is only effective in certain niche scenarios that aren't obviously helpful to a mass shooter. People don't really grasp how inaccurate and uncontrollable it is.

In Floyd County, Kentucky we had 3 cops and a k9 dog shot and killed a few years back here. And several others were injured. I dont think theres a video about it but theres plenty of articles. The guy was getting papers served on him by his girlfriend. When the cops knocked on the door to serve them he fired through the door killing the first cop on contact. When they finally captured him they searched the house, and said he had guns set up in every room. He later "hung himself" in jail a few months later. We all said " Death isnt good enough for that s.o.b." the youngest cop was 28 with a very very young daughter. People amaze me everyday, and not in the good way.

@@LA_HA Bought the weapons a few days earlier. Not the wisest choice when you have a son who has mental issues. Even though the son was old enough to purchase he might have been stopped if he was acting weird at the store. This is almost the same as another case where they bought their kid (under 18 also had mental issues) weapon and didn't keep it secured. Then the kid shot one of his teachers. In that case both parents have been charged as accessories. Especially since the school tried to send the kid home that day and they refused yo pick him up.

@@douglascampbell9809 Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I have an additional question: The guy who was shooting people didn't have his problems for that long, is that what the video says? He was okay until he got kicked off the wrestling team a few weeks before, right? He had depression, which the parents knew about, so when he kept saying that, they sent him to the doctor, right? He saw the doctor, said he was really very depressed and was hearing voices. This was the day before the shootings, right? So, the doctor told him to make an appointment with a psychiatrist, which the shooter was supposed to do the day of the shooting, but he never showed up to (make the appointment to) see the psychiatrist, right? Or am I mistaken? I'm asking in earnest because again, it's possible I misunderstood the details

@@LA_HA Not the person you responded to but it was a few months before the shooting that he was kicked from the wrestling team. They said this is when he started to show signs like that, but it's quite likely he was experiencing some issues before but they were much more mild and unnoticeable to most people. He told his doctor that at the appointment which I believe was a few days before the shooting, but his mental health appointment was either the day of the shooting or the day before. I'm not entirely clear which. Otherwise the rest seems to be correct.

@@bmbandit Right, that's what I thought regarding the doctor's appointment and the request to see the psychiatrist. The day he went on the shooting spree was the day he was supposed to meet the therapist because he told the doctor he was extremely depressed and was hearing voices. Yes, he was kicked off of the wrestling team for disciplinary issues, I think the video said. After that it was thought he was depressed about getting cut from the team because he really liked it. As his depression got worse, his parents had him see the doctor. Are we agreed on that. I'm checking what I'm understanding and what others are understanding

You really think everyone knows the difference of an automatic and semi-automatic weapon? They heard rapid successive shots outside their homes and called the police. You really fucking care for the accuracy of their gun knowledge at a time like that? Semi-auto, full-auto, fuck, bolt action, it doesn't matter, every type can kill, and police ideally show up prepared for anything once a shooting is reported. Sorry, nothing against you personally, but that take of yours is so stupid. If you're just a gun nerd, well, there's a time and a place, and this wouldn't be the time or place to complain that a civilian didn't know the firing mode of the weapon during an active shooter killing people.

Just a quick fyi: AR does NOT mean assault rifle. AR stands for Armalite Rifle. There is NOTHING assault about a standard AR. The person was just able to rapidly squeeze the trigger. It is easy for the citizens to mistake the quick repetitive firing for automatic fire because they are completely unaccustomed to the sound of gunfire. As a veteran, I can easily tell the difference, but I would never expect the average person to know the difference.

I’ve narrowly avoided three active shooter situations and one vehicular homicide. All four incidents occurred when I lived in the Santa Barbara, CA area. One involved a shooting outside a nightclub, where a gangbanger from LA pulled his gun out and fired into a crowd before being killed by a nearby officer. A friend of a friend lost his life that night 😓 The next incident involved a shooter standing on a freeway overpass, one exit south of where I typically got on to head to work. My coworker came in about an hour late that day because all northbound traffic was stopped while police tried to deescalate the situation. The third time was a barricaded shooter in the apartment across the street from mine. I was coming home from work to shower and then go meet some coworkers downtown for drinks. My street was barricaded by the sheriff’s office, so I drove north to another residential area, parked and took the dirt paths around to the other end of my street. When I got almost to my apartment, a sheriff’s deputy told me the area was cordoned off for public safety. I told him my apartment was literally like 10 steps away. He agreed to let me in, provided I took personal responsibility for my own safety. I got inside and took a shower. By the time I walked back outside, they’d taken the shooter into custody. You never know when or where some crazy shit is about to go down.

Yeah he had mental problems to do something like that but I was bad myself when I was younger, at 15 I carried two .25 pistols on me everywhere, it’s dangerous in some places but I never did anything like that, but the government tries to cover up gang violence in the US for some strange reason & the shooters are getting younger & younger! No consequences anymore so they do whatever they want, back in the days you got punished by your own people for doing stupid stuff that drew attention, & you didn’t shoot innocent civilians & women & kids, that would get you killed by your own people there used to be a code!

@ActionMan-Grant Correct, in America, you need a class 3 license in order to purchase or own fully automatic weapons. A class 3 license is not your typical conceal carry license and is very hard to obtain. With all the guns coming over the border from Mexico, only criminals are walking the streets with full autos, like the full auto switches you see on glocks being carried by street hoods in Chicago/Chiraq.
@tdickison
@tdickison 5 ай бұрын
@@corywhitley4573 you can absolutely own automatics and it's the same process as buying a suppressor. The gun just has to be Pre 1986 ban date and you pay a 200-dollar tax stamp and a form 4 through the ATF. Once they get your NICS background back which could take anywhere from same day to 12 months you pick it up. They are usually 15 thousand dollars or more though even for just the full auto seer. And It's actually a class 3 SOT attached to your Federal Firearms License. You have to have an active FFL to even get it and just having an FFL isn't a guarantee. That lets you deal with new full auto and select fire weapons, make them and suppressors, modify them and sell them to police and military or other Class 3 SOT FFL holders.

Welcome to America, a lot of people have guns , good or bad . Since it’s almost impossible to have a firearm in another country, this situation would never happen, if some maniac has a knife threatening the neighbors, it’s not terrifying the whole neighborhood like this scenario

Not sure about that. Other countries have people wreaking havoc with knives, machetes, or whatever. But, certain types of guns are known to cause a lot more problems. If he had a shotgun, it's possible people could have stopped him much easier and sooner because ordinary rifles and guns have a fixed number of bullets they can fire. So, if his dad had a rifle, and he's running around with a rifle, people can count the shots and attack while he's reloading. So if he shoots two shells, anyone with a hunting rifle and good aim could've taken him down. Or maybe just rush him and hold him down, though being on the wrestling team... I don't know

@@LA_HA There's nothing to be sure or unsure about. It's a fact. The same people who state "facts don't care about your feelings." love to ignore than per capita, the US has a gun related homocide of 4.3 people per 100,000. China is in 2nd place and it's under 2 per 100,000. We are clear outliers when it comes to advanced countries.

What are you talking about? 38% of Finnish households, 29% of Swiss households, 26% of Norwegian households have guns. Why does everybody act like nobody else has them?

@@heshy14I promise I'm not arguing. I didn't hear that part. Where did they say that he was more than just depressed? I heard when they were talking about it after they killed the shooter that he was depressed over getting kicked off the team a month or so before. Then as he got more depressed, he was made to see a doctor the day before the shooting. That's where he told the doctor he was depressed and hearing voices. The doctor told him to go see the psychiatrist the next day, but the guy didn't go back. That was the day he started shooting people. What else happened? What did I miss?

No. If guns are legal for sale, they're more available. They're more likely to be used against you and are available to be stolen. If his dad hadn't bought a gun, it would not have been available at the child's disposal when he was having these thoughts. It's really simple. Other places in the world don't have these issues.

I used to think this way but it's just not true. I live in Germany and could illegally buy a gun within a day. People who want to get guns for anything else than self protection have no problem getting it, but on the other hand it's almost impossible to defend yourself the legal way. Pepperspray is illegal here, making self defense for women illegal. Somehow shootings are going up right now. Knife crime goes up (the knifes used also illegal in Germany) etc. This also wasn't a child, 18 years old is an adult. You can go and fight for your military at that time and kill people legally.

So if guns are the problem, why are you more likely to be stabbed in the UK, than be shot in the U.S?

False, In Mexico guns are illegal but cartels have 50 cals, machine guns, rpgs, I live in Tx & carried two .25 pistol’s when I was 15, very easy to get a gun no matter what, might be more expensive if outlawed but you can make your own too, steel pipe, washer nut, metal bb, shotgun shell, you now have a shotgun! Legal owners should be able to defend themselves without getting in trouble & dealing with politics!

Why? They are inanimate objects.. That is like saying "I hate cars, because car accidents kill about 1.35 Million people each year". It makes no sense. And guns are what saved many lives that day. In the hands of good people willing to stop this berserk person.

You say that as if the gun did this all on it's own. Good thing there are far more good people with guns, many who are willing to risk their lives for you. Meanwhile, people like you are making it to where only the bad guys will have them.

annamaria: I know this sounds weird, but maybe it will help you confront your fear if you took lessons, learned about them, and learned how to protect yourself and your loved ones. My mom started her working life as a secretary. She learned to type in high school, got good at it, and got a job as a secretary. Sometime later, she saw that the county police were hiring. She studied for the exam. Started training for the physical tests. And began learning about guns and training at the firing range. She passed every test with flying colors. She would teach me and some of my older siblings about self defense, general safety, and going to the firing range. My dad was an army vet, so he knew most of this stuff already. After high school, I took an Administration of Justice college course and learned the basics again - basic self defense, situational defense, and training at the shooting range. All this time later, I'm seriously considering updating all of that and training to get a gun for personal protection because things are truly getting out of all control, and the criminals seem to be winning. Especially since certain types of people decided it was a great idea to cut their funding and officers left the State or police work altogether because very little they do matters with people who should be putting criminals away are letting them go. These are government types who want to close jails and prisons, and let the prisoners go, like they're trying to start a real life Purge. So, to get over your fear, you might consider confronting it by learning how something that can be used against you can be used to save your life and the lives of your family
