Hello @Mrhandfriends I am Hawaiian and wanted to say thank you for the prayers for what happened on Maui, and for the prayers for those who have been lost! You guys did a great job at making the loco-moco! It is a dish that you can get any time during the day from many restaurants that serve it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Hawaiian food is more of a comfort food style, similar to southern cooking! Hawaiian food is heavily influenced by the U.S. and asian cuisines, their are different ways to make loco-moco and another version to try is “Chili-moco”! It is rice, chili, cheese, onions, hamburger, and an over-easy egg/fried egg! Thank you very much! Great vid! 🤙🏽

That is funny, cuz here in St. Louis there is a well known diner dish called a “Slinger” that is exactly like your “chili-moco” except instead of rice it is served on hash browned potatoes.

Eeee yeah, I appreciate that they're doing something Hawaiian but I'm not on board with the usual upbeat attitude. Imagine if your town and every resident's home in it were destroyed to nothing but ash. Where would you go? Where do you even begin? If you have a business there then you would have lost your home and your business and possibly loved ones as well. 🥺 I dunno, I love the H's but I could see a little more empathy being used here. Aloha Lahaina. ❤😢

You should try the Loco Moco Burger. I haven’t had it. But, some friends of mine went to Hawaii a couple of years ago and said it was absolutely amazing, just delicious! At 4:46, the gravy is too thick. Way too thick. Add more beef stock. Maybe just a touch of water so that it’s not overly salty. You want the gravy. All gravy to be a little on the runny side so that it flows as what you would expect gravy to flow as what you would expect with any other dish. I can here chef Ramsay yelling already 😮😵‍💫 lol Btw, “Little H” is absolutely adorable! Her interactions are priceless! 😍

Mrs. H, I'm sure many of your patrons have advised this, but I want to support their suggestions: I see you have a meat tenderizing hammer in your kitchen kit. You can use that, or just about anything else strong, to press the spatula down, rather than using your wrist and bending the arm of the spatula! Hold the spatula firmly over the meat ball, then use the hammer to just press down! Easy-peasy! No more bent spatula! Love you all! 👶

The start of the brown gravy you made here is called a roux and is equal parts fat and flour. Roux can be done one of 2 ways: 1) blonde roux is cooked for 3-5 minutes on medium heat in a saucepan while keeping in motion (the goal is to cook the flour so the end gravy doesn't taste of raw flour). 2) dark roux is cooked for 45+ minutes on a medium heat and becomes dark like chocolate sauce and full of deep dark flavors. Blonde roux is good for thickening things like gravy, cheese sauce and bechamel while dark roux is used in dishes like gumbo, jambalaya, dirty rice and other Cajun style dishes. Bechamel is one of the French mother sauces and is the base for a good creamy cheese sauce (like a mornay).

Mom always made extra rice whenever she cooked it, to have it ready for many meals. And with always having rice ready, the rest of the meal was fast and easy to cook. Note - Hawaii is the state with the highest Spam consumption per person of all the US states. Note - McDonald's in Hawaii, for breakfast, serves rice with Spam and eggs. Many restaurants and food trucks there serve Loco Moco in Hawaii 😋 YUM !

I am one of those crazy idiots that like Spam©. I grew up eating Spam© burgers. Two slices of bread. Some mayo on both pieces. Some iceberg lettuce, tomato slices on the bottom. Grill a sliced piece of Spam© to go on top. So basically a BLT just substituting the bacon for Spam©. My love for Spam© may be a result of watching Monty Python's Flying Circus who did a skit on Spam©. But my dad was the one who showed me how to make a quick meal. 😊 You can now buy a slice of Spam© in a metallic foil pouch as a "single" in either the classic or Spam© lite which has less sodium. That way you don't have to waste the leftover Spam© you hadn't got around to yet. 😊 I am from California so ... Never had Loco Moco.

I'm from Illinois, but I've been to Hawaii, as well as the other 48. It's great that you're making some Hawaiian food, in view of the terrible fire that took place recently in Lahaina (la-HIGH-nah). Re. Spam, it was introduced to HI during WW2 by the servicemen, and was an instant hit.

Amazing job! As a SoCal resident I eat it once a month. The gravy was indeed a bit thick. It should be more like brown gravy over mash potatoes than a thick sausage gravy. Either way. Same flavors. I use jasmine rice add extra flavor. Great video!

As for spam. Do same thing you did here. Jasmine rice. Spam thin sliced, cooked till brown in its own meat. Don’t add butter or oil. (Like bacon). Fry up the eggs in the spam grease like you did here and place all over white rice. Sometimes I use a mustard on the side and/or SRIRACHA sauce. Perfect

I spent 3 years in Hawaii and ate rice with soy sauce and 2 runny eggs on top, it's still one of my favorites 40 years later. Never did get use to spam there.

Our favorite recipes with spam are frying it with eggs and putting it in tortillas, frying it a putting it in ramen (we add lots of veggies to make a soup), and 2 adapted Korean stews, kimchi jiggae and budajigga. Our favorite flavor is hot and spicy. Oh and spam fried rice. Spam is huge in Korea and it became a part of our diet when we lived there for several years

Spam is popular in Hawaii for the same reason it's popular in a lot of places: it's a decent "ham" substitute that stores perfectly forever and ever, and was easy to ship all over the world during WWII. So a lot of places that depended on the US for shipping supplies during WWII or who were in some way dependent after, incorporated it into their own cuisines, with varying degrees of enthusiasm and creativity. I kind of like Spam, but it's not "the same" as ham. You sort of have to like it for itself. IMO Hawaii has done particularly well at including it in their own cuisine. My personal favorite is Spam musubu...but loco moco isn't bad. Prayers and Support sent to Hawai'i in this crisis.

I went to Hawaii 5 years ago for a cruise. Just about every day the breakfast buffet featured Spam. Even the McDonald's feature a breakfast meal that includes Spam, Portuguese Sausage and an "Ice Cream Scoop Size" of rice.

Prayers to our great island state. Loco Moco would be served with a macaroni salad a long side it as a lunch special for plantation workers. Sugar cane and pineapple workers lived on it.

Spam is a way of life in Hawaii. Spam eggs and rice is a regular breakfast plate. Along with Spam Musubi. Also know as the Hawaiian sandwhich. Very ono! Or yummy in English 🤙😜. One cool thing a lot of Britts don’t realize is our relationship our royal family had with The British Royal family. Pretty interesting history there and the reason why the Union Jack is on our state flag. Anyways aloha from our ohana to yours.

That is a false statement. I am a professional chef for over 40 years, and there are over 100 different kinds of gravy's in the United States, and some of them are very thin. Gravy should not be too thick.

@@megandrehr3420 I live in the Northeast and we do not make our gravy's very thick and we do not make white sausage gravy. I would say that the Northeast United States like New York, Philadelphia and Boston are the most similar to Europe as far as our cooking is concerned.

@@megandrehr3420 I'm not offended at all. I simply have a lot of experience in fine dining restaurants. I specialize in French food, Northern Italian food, German food, British food, American food and others. Most gravy should be silky and flow over the food onto the plate. I make high-quality gravy's that compliment gourmet dishes. We simply come from two different worlds. Many parts of the Northeast are just completely different than the South. There are 50 states and everybody is use to something different.

@@jeffhampton2767 I lived in Jersey for a few years it's a totally different world then tx. Down here we don't really worry about fat content or what's the healthier option it's about if it taste good lol. But the north east is much different also french cooking is different down here too because we have a lot of Cajun influence here. That's what makes the states great because we are such a diverse melting pot of cuisine

Great job team H.Mrs.H,now you have to mount the spatula up on the wall as a deterrent.Put a sign underneath it that says misbehave and find out.😊😊 That dish would make sense if football 🏈 players would love it because they use a lot of carbs and protein.I could see that going on a loaf of french bread for sandwiches too.

I'm from Tennessee, & never heard of Loco Moco! IDK how to cook a burger without garlic!!! You had me at rice & gravy! TBH, I prefer fried eggs with breakfast pork items. I can see you doing a breakfast variation on this...rice smothered in sausage gravy & topped with fried eggs with a buttered biscuit & jam on the side...is Mr. H drooling?! Speaking of Mr. H, if you want cheese - you're the king of the castle, DO IT! It's way cool that y'all honor the recipe in your vids, but when the camera's off, make it your way! LOL! Baby H is just the sweetest, cutest thing EVER! She'll have a million followers by the time she's 10! Did she get a chance to chase lightning bugs (firefly) when y'all were in Florida? If not, please plan a trip next summer so she can. It's pretty much a right of passage here in the South for kids to catch some & put them in a glass jar to watch overnight. Simple pleasures are the best!
