Going around the US and seeing how much food is available and how many different types and cultures are represented, it is easy to understand how people crave so many different things and why so many Americans have issues with their weight. There is so much great food and so much of it is not even from places that anyone passing through would hear about because they are tucked into neighborhoods or they are traveling food trucks or mom and pop diners. It would be easy to find a different and incredibly good place to eat at least twice in a day, every day just in Los Angeles, or Cleveland or Chicago or New Orleans and the list goes on and on. I believe that Americans are obsessed with flavor and when people come here to visit, it is as much a foodie vacation as it is an adventure of exploration of the country itself. If all you did was visit the different fusion restaurants, it would take months to hit just the best ones. I used to go to a diner that was French-Philippine fusion and it was so interesting and delicious. Husband was from Philippines and wife from France. I would eat lunch in that dining car at least twice a week and never had anything that wasn't crave worthy. I think someone needs to write a book called Eating America (if someone already hasn't) that is about spending several years eating their way all across the country.

@@BearStar1 Right however when a food moves cultures it changes for that culture. The store chains around Houston just call them all kolaches. It happens with all foods around the globe that catch on in other places. Look up the migration of Tikka into Britain for example. Most shops that have created similar foods have simplified for the popular culture. Every time I hear the term sweet bread I laugh because what I grew up knowing as sweet bread is not what popular culture knows it as.

I don't know if I ever tried the fancy dressed doughnuts at Round Rock. I'm just crazy for the plain glazed. They have such a dreamy texture...so soft and fluffy but retaining a subtle chew. Exactly what I want in a doughnut. You are also in Shipley's territory which were the main doughnuts we ate when I was a child. Not as rich a flavor as some of the more modern shops but they nail that utra-soft pillowy, slightly chewy texture. If you make it further North up I-35 toward Dallas you will pass into the town of West, where you will be in the kolache capital of Texas. There's probably a dozen different kolache shops, all slightly different, all delicious. My fave are cheese filled and any cheese/fruit combo. While you are in Texas, stop by on of the many Sonic Drive-ins for a cherry limeaid which includes their signiture tender crunchy ice. Unique and wonderful. I used to have these almost daily when I lived there❤

Gourdough Donuts is where you go on a date to have dessert. Round Rock is where you go for breakfast on your way to work.

What would hubby do if he got the first bite for a change....lol. It's 10pm here in Ohio as I'm watching this and darn it - I'm so hungry for a donut! Those looked delicious!! Hummm....thinking maybe donut run for breakfast tomorrow! LOL In Ohio we have Amish country and there is a place called Der Dutchman - their donuts - everyone is about 4 times the size of a normal donut and they are delicious -- my favorite is the Long John!! Oh My Goodness! And they are made all day long and sometimes they are still warm . . . OH MAN!

Thank you for watching! Donuts are always a good idea, whatever time of the day! Der Dutchman sounds amazing, we will have to look that up.

Did I understand yall say that you kind of wished the eclair was more chocolaty like Nutella? Maybe I misunderstood, but I hope y’all know that Nutella isn’t chocolate but hazelnut spread with a touch of coco powder

RR Donuts are famous for their plain glazed donuts. Bummer they weren’t hot. That’s the only way I’ve ever had them and they are incredible hot. Also a bummer you didn’t try a savory kolache (I get it since you were trying sweets) because they’re fantastic. The jalapeño and cheese sausage kolache… So good.

Go there (RR Donuts) on a Saturday morning and see about 400 people in line to buy donuts.

I don't like Nutella. I had it once and I simply thought it was overrated. I love hazelnuts though.
