The Official Video for this song is so great because of the imagery that accompanies it, not to mention that Hank Jr is singing alone with his guitar from a barge in the middle of what looks like the Mississippi River. The man fell off of a mountain and lived to tell the story! "If you picture Hank Williams Jr. there’s a good chance that image includes a beard and shades. That’s fair. After all, he has rocked that look for over forty years. In a way, it’s his trademark. However, it wasn’t just a fashion decision. He changed his appearance to cover up the scars he earned when he fell off of Ajax Peak in Montana back in 1975. On August 8, 1975, Bocephus was hiking on Ajax Peak in Beaverhead County, Montana. As the country icon hiked along the mountain, the snow beneath him gave way. Hank Jr. fell nearly five hundred feet. The fall caused massive injuries to his head and face. In fact, the fall fractured Hank Jr.’s skull in several places. They were almost certain that he would die. He didn’t though. He did, however, spend two years recovering from his injuries as well as the surgeries he endured to repair them."

When he came to a couple days later, 2 people were by his bed. His Godmother June Carter Cash, and Johnny Cash. Contrary to popular belief, Johnny was not his Godfather as he and June didn't get married til Hank was 19 years old. But they were very close

It's such a failure of our education system to "educate" us, take 12 or more years of our lives and still have us come out of school not knowing how to even grow a single tomato. Well let's be real, the government doesn't want us to know these things, they need us dependent on them.. That's why my advice is taking every shop class you can while in school. You'll learn more useful things there than any other class room.

My friends from Northern Maine amaze and impress me. City people can call them names or look down on them but the truth is we should look up to someone who can kick ass, fix almost anything, feed themselves, and will be the first ones to help out when the bleep hits the fan. Great song, and a great reaction.

Hey Britt. Hank has got great pipes. He also plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, steel guitar and maybe one or two more. He was the CMA entertainer of the year 3 times in a row too. One word of caution with Hank and a few others, to get a first impression of his songs, watch the official video even if you can't show us. Hank has a habit of changing the words and melody of his songs when he performs live. So you might want to hear it once as he wrote it lol. You probably heard him for years and didn't even know it, before Carrie Underwood took it over Hank was (for years) the guy who sang the intro for Monday Night Football. "Are you ready for some football???? Pig in the ground beer on ice, all my rowdy friends are coming over tonight.

This is probably the earliest live performance I've ever seen of this song. Hank Jr was my dad's favorite musician when I was growing up, so naturally he became mine too. When I got to high school my taste moved toward rock, rap, and hip hop but I will still throw on some Hank Jr every once in a while and love it just as much. His concerts were legendary too. He won the Entertainer of the Year award 5 times in a row and had a concert that was only the 3rd pay-per-view event in history to be cleared in 100% of markets.

I find this reaction amazing in so many ways. I mean I've never agreed with his politics or anything I loved his dad so much. And Hank the third is actually pretty damn amazing. But the thing is, Hank Williams jr. Or, Bocephus as he is often called, put up some good music, and a lot of it is the fabric of my younger days. It's just woven in there. And I love it. I really do love it. And I'd like to believe he's probably a really good person. I do not agree with a lot of the stuff he stands for but man I'm a musician, and I have to say there's a special place in my heart for his stuff.

As others mentioned, this is a slower, later version of the song. But amazingly, he still Nailed that last note! (It's even better in the original.) Also, dunno if they mentioned it, but this is the son of "royalty!" His daddy was the Legendary (singer-songwriter) Hank Williams, Sr.! Who died early, and who only knew Jr. as a little boy. And "Bocephus" was the nickname his dad had for him. (btw, I finally just looked up what was the origin or reason behind the nickname Bocephus... and naturally, its the most ridiculous and Country thing you could imagine...😂 🤦‍♀️ But I wont spoil the story here.) Blessings to the family and baby.

Checkout family tradition, which refers to his father's Fame and early death and it was on every jukebox forever in any bar or pool room, and it basically still gets played a lot in those situations even now with digital jukeboxes. For example, he's got a lot better stuff than this, family tradition speaks to all of that, but I would also say, in extreme classic in one that just rings so hard for certain situations, is, Whiskey Bent and Hellbound. And once again this kind of refers back to the power of his father's songs and performances, how much emotion he could create in an audience. On an almost Vaudeville level, he's got what I still think is a real banger, and it's called Attitude Adjustment. And it was a minor hit but it was still hit, and it's a fan favorite. I really don't want to spoil it because it goes through a number of changes throughout the song, even though it's in this old-school format. And it turns out to actually be a funny song, even it does have some dark overtones here and there.

Back in the day, Hank could really rock it out in concert. He knows how to entertain and loves the experience. He sounds a lot like is father but, in my opinion, he has a fuller and stronger voice. George Hamilton starred in a movie about Hank Williams, Sr, and a 15-year-old Hank, Jr, sang the vocals. He's had an interesting life and a movie was made about him, too.

Trivia fact: he lost his face in a rock climbing fall, which is why you’ll never see him without big, tinted glasses and that beard-and he wore that beard before beards were cool again. Then when I moved to Texas, I added Chris Ledoux to the tape case. “Copenhagen, you are a friend of mine…” 🎼🎶🎶🎶

With Hank Jr., the best version are always the studio versions. Love me some Hank, but his live versions are rarely sober enough to be as good as the studio versions. Put it this way, I went to a Jr. concert back in the day, it wasn't bad, but you could tell he wasn't all there. My dad asked me about the concert, I said it wasn't bad, he then proceeds to explain that the concert he had gone to 20 years earlier, Hank was high on something and probably drunk too, described how the concert went and sure enough it was exactly what I experienced. Don't get me wrong, still love his music, but I'll stick to the studio versions. 🙂

Totally agree with you. I grew up a big Bocephus fan and was excited when I got to see him live in concert - I'm being charitable when I say it wasn't very good. He was definitely drunk (plus he might have been using pain pills - I'm sure part of the reason for his heavy drinking isn't just hereditary but dealing with the pain from that horrible accident so many years before). You also have to separate Hank's politics too from his music (although I doubt "If the South Would have Won" would get made today - and comparing Obama to Hitler wasn't the smartest thing he could have said.)
