Great tutorial! Love the explanation of the monitor speaker feature. Would you happen to know if the 'ducking' feature - which I know works to duck the other mic channels - also works to lower the output volume of the music from the line input feed when the presenter is talking on channel 1? Or do you have to use the fader to lower the volume of the music when the presenter is talking? Thanks.
@ZeitdiebX Жыл бұрын
That’s a legitimate question regarding the ducking feature. I believe it only lowers all other mic inputs by 30 % compared to the host mic channel on fader 1. Bur you can configure that value in the settings. 30 % is a good value, though. The music or smart pads or phone inputs. Are they affected by the ducking as well? I‘m not sure. I‘ve seen a guy on Tube who configured smart pad 1 with s latched ducking effect. So every time he presses that pad the ducking is in effect. Press again and levels return to how they are set up. Problem seems to be that the mic input must either be live all the time, muted or my brain is going to critical mass now. An info by James might be beneficial.

Currently there is only one USB channel on this mixer. You could always use the AUX/Jack input though for a second channel and assign the cue/master to headphone out on your computer, then use a 3.5mm jack cable to connect them, not ideal but a workaround to give you a second channel.

Hi James, I don't understand how the Rodecaster can work on live radio, when you only have one music channel? Where is the main music coming from while you are using the PFL to cue up your next piece of music?
@DjockeBM4 жыл бұрын
The Main output signal, comes from the computer. James did exoplane the routing in the video. Look again! The speaker-monitor is only for your listening in that room. The music comes from the computer, transfer by USB-C cable. In to mixer rødecast PRO. You pull up the fader with symbled USB. (Or any fader else to) The thing is Now, the main-outgoing sound goes back in the USB-C cable, to the computer. And there is routed, in the next software, to the radio-software. This is the way how i seen it. Maby James can xplane it better, than i did.

Afraid the RODEcaster isn’t really designed to do this. You Probably need a mixer with more channels and a good multiple channel audio interface to achieve that. This looks like a really good option for an affordable and easy broadcast console. My question is about the little screen on the RCP. Does it turn itself off when it's not used for a certain amount of time? I'd want to run playout software from my own computer through the RCP, which means it would probably need to remain powered on around the clock, and I'd be worried about screen burn-in.

Correct. One of the limitations of the rodecaster is it will only allow one output via USB on ONE fader. It's not designed to be a DJ mixer as such. You can get by on one fader as loads of software will handle the mixing for you. But if you don't like it go complain to them... not me, I didn't make this device - just trying to help as let's be honest - there isn't much else on the market of this calibre vs cost 😃shame they don't have more USB/Soundcard connectivity on pioneer decks etc.

I’d get a program like MegaSeg to handle the music. It’s a complete radio automation package for not a lot of money. Virtual DJ isn’t really good for running a set up where you need playlist support and automatic fades in the app.

I'm using an IMAC, so what dj software can I use? Radio DJ isn't for Mac, so what would be a good choice? I appreciate your input!

I have RadioDJ 2.0.0.6 running in a Windows-10 virtual machine thanks to the app Parallels, which translates between the two systems, including USB. No idea whether it would interface to this mixer though.

does the USB connection have to be with a computer? have you ever tried it out with a USB interface such as a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2? it seems this RodeCaster Pro is missing 2 critical elements... balanced in and balanced out audio, which is why I am curious about this possibility. I'd rather not adapt to adapters to adapt to a balanced device using the headset jack, especially in high RF environments like next to an AM radio station ;)

Not sure it's not missing these elements? Don't think it's really been designed with that in mind - more just not the right tool for the job by the sounds of it...

@@AudioInsider_YT Fair enough. I know a lot of radio stations are using these for remote talent during Covid but I wonder how they make the most of them due to the limitations of not quite being a live board.

I posted previously but have another question. When the MIC is panned up and shuts the music from the speakers does it completely shut the line out signal going to the source if its plugged elsewhere such as another mixer or other line input elsewhere?
@AudioInsider_YT3 жыл бұрын
If you enable that feature it will mute the monitor outputs. As the device is designed to be digital, there are only one set of 1/4 inch output which are designed for monitors. You could of course route these elsewhere but it's not designed the same as a traditional broadcast desk.

@@AudioInsider_YT Thank you for replying. I had the unit in hand and when I attempted to install the software on winserver 2012 I was greeted with incompatibility issues and returned it. My station is run off of a server so the unit although a great piece won't work for me. I don't install programs on my win10 computer which is primarily used for production and personal. It was a bit disappointing to have to return it.

@@DjSmoothNY Maybe time to update your server....crazy that OS is 9 years old now!

@@AudioInsider_YT Lol. Yes but it’s very stable. Eventually I’ll update to 2019 but backup and restore processes are horrible in windows. I dread having to do it, lol.
