The lighter is a small thing, but a tremendous amount of work was done. Please support my video with a comment.

I do not even smoke. I cannot even stand the smell of someone who has smoked in the last hour. I would completely pay good money for something like this, just so I could light people's cigarettes for them. That was some amazing work. B E A U T I F U L.

Favourite part was the sound of the screw falling free and obviously hitting the floor. This would happen with all the small bits if did this job.

В крышку зажигалки легче вставку из металла сделать чем напаивать столько, и надежней было бы, я так гранаты паяю, а вот за электролиз Лайк!

How do you know that was a lighter from WW2?.. Did the Germans have lighters issued to them by the Army?I don't think so.Also I didn't see any markings on it at all. Anyways it was in pretty good shape for being that old.I wouldn't think it was dug up.

Реставрация крутая! Спору нет, но на мой взгляд теперь как новодел, зажигалка потеряла след времени.

This looks like a British Tommy lighter I have the exact same one with made in England written on it

That design was very popular in several countries during that era. There's also an interesting story. Austria was the Mecca of lighters back then. They had a comparable design to this but without the liquid tank, they called it "Hurricane". A man named George Grant Blaisdell and his friend were meeting during a summer night in 1932. His friend put a "Hurricane" out of his pocket and lit up a cigarette. Blaisdell asked him why he's is using this ugly lighter instead of a more beautiful representative one that fits his neat outfits he always wears. The answer was: This one here always works! Blaisdell was impressed, and he started his own company and sold these lighters in the US, also purchased the patent from the Austrians and he changed the design by connecting the cap and the body with a hinge. He named it "Zippo", because he liked the sound of the word "zipper". That Tommy lighter design was actually quite popular here in Germany. I have one that was probably made in 1950s or 60s, it's tank base is made of brass, but the tank itself is made of clear plastic so you can also see how much petrol is still in it.

Why plate it in copper before the nickel?
@wwiituberestoration10112 жыл бұрын
From long lying in the ground, brass became thin and brittle. With copper, I increased the thickness of the metal. I also smoothed out all the bumps.

Nice restoration, but I gotta tell you.....you spend way too much time turning the object over and around 14 different times! This is a video.....we see what the object is! there's no need to turn it over and around and back again! Spend more time actually restoring it. By the way....cute little anvil ya got there! :)
