Ingenious cheats, ford in WRC Focus had a titanium tank hidden behind the rear bumper to store boost pressure so on the over run the pressure was stored in the tank and then used as anti lag when coming back on throttle.

Magnets on the gas pedal. Brilliant. That's what Joe Gibbs Racing was busted doing during a post-race chassis dynamometer test of their Nationwide Series cars on Saturday afternoon at Michigan. During the test, which is used to measure horsepower output, the magnets kept NASCAR inspectors from being able to fully open up the throttles of Tony Stewart and Joey Logano's JGR Camrys. If you can't drop the hammer all the way, you can't accurately measure the amount of top end power the engine is producing, thus skewing the test results and not fully showing the team's Toyota-powered hand.

There was a NASCAR team that acid dipped (?) so much of the bodywork away they had to warn the crew not to lean on it. There’s a VinWiki episode about the greatest cheats.

Hi Ricky . Question for you , years ago a friend of my dads told me that to save fuel put big wheels on the back and small wheels on the front that way you are always going downhill , will the speedo read correctly 😂 . On a serious note love the videos especially the more engineering fault finding based one’s . Keep up the good work

100% on the nail again about business. Having an emergency spinal fusion when I prolapsed a disk at work a couple of years back forced me to re-evaluate how I work. I am a lot better now. I finish by a fixed time and what isn't done.....gets done tomorrow.

I think you’ve built the company up to a very reputable position and the work will continue to keep coming because of it so you’re at the point where you have to step back from workshop duties and be solely managing and running the company which is a hard thing to do, none of us like stepping back from the work we love doing and trusting others to keep your reputation intact. I couldn’t step back from being on the tools and just managing a business and for me that would make me walk away from it but to keep your sanity you have to be able to put your trust in others to do their job right and you have to just run the business

Ricky I know exactly where you're coming from, I know it's a bit different but I'm a self employed wagon driver. I was only off work 3 weeks with my replacement knee! I suppose I'm a bit luckier as I'm single, own my own house mortgage free & owe nothing other than a bit on the card! I still feel pressure to have to goto work! I drive a shitty Sèat altea but it's paid for & does 60+ to the gallon. It's not about what you have, it's about are you happy! Just make sure u keep Kate happy & you'll be winning 😉

Re: the best cheats.... one of them I remember is a guy from the early 90's, (who shall remain nameless) who was competing in the Rover Tomcat Championship. To get around people 'chipping' their ECU's, they were controlled by the organisers and handed out randomly to competitors at each meeting. He was only caught when in post race scrutineering, his ECU was removed during an inspection and taken aside. Unknowingly, one of his mechanics went over to the car, started it and went to drive away.... with the ECU in one of the scrutineers hands.... Oooops, I guess that one was just for show then...😂I've got plenty more! 108 Octane 'Legal' fuel (from the pump) but I'll save them for another day!

Ref a Coach, with your current plans your half way there; a Coach is anybody with a fresh pair of eyes and half a business brain, it’s a good idea to give it a try. If you want something more informal try looking around similar businesses that have made the transition from working in the business to managing it, and approach the boss and ask if he would explain his journey, you may well be surprised at the reaction, they are probably lonely too 🙂

I am sure it was Smokey Yunik who wanted to run the car lower so to get it over the ride height check he froze the dampers a bit higher then the car lowered itself when they defrosted. I read most of his book but in the end could stomach the style it was written in but he did lead a very interesting life during WW2. As for a business coach, been there and got the T shirt. The best coach most business owners have got is their wife if you are prepared to let her manage it which is different to actually the day to day management on the shop floor.

With the water tanks in formula 1 it was masquerading as cooling for the brakes. In reality they would dump it all really quickly and run light all race and replenish it after the chequered flag as you could do this before the car was weighed, an exploitative move by the teams running atmo engines against the more powerful turbo engines.very crafty

Hi Ricky, fantastic video really made me chuckle just a thought on your new units. Obviously you use vast amounts of electricity. Have you thought about putting solar panels on the top with a battery storage units? If you’ve got a self facing roof? Just a thought to try and save you some money? I’m just having mine installed from a guide just around by Taunton. He’s small business prices are very good compared with all the grab them wants to charge your fortune and he’s not a hard self. Ricky you didn't need to tell any of us arm chair quarterbacks where the water came from. The oxidized components and corroded electrical indicated it was long term. As you are the mechanic and not a body shop is the roof, windows and rubber seals even your job. The owner had to know they had a leak as someone unplugged the seatbelt mic connections it was a long term known issue. I would expect based on the evidence the owner new it was leaking and didnt do anything about it. The question is did you eat the repair for a fault you didnt cause or explain it to them and bill them for it.

A super rare metal the help with bore wear so bought 90% of the worlds supply Ferrari found out complained and it got band😂😂 Fitted a machine at BAR back in the day and wandered round the factory and got told again back in the 90’s nobody built wind tunnels company wise so BAR built there own for £5M crazy to think that no company’s built them as the market was so small
