From the beginning of the video, in answer to your query as to what a chook is.. it be a chicken 🐔, they were a chicken farm which is what attracted the dingoes. Loving this theme, outback Australia post apocalypse.. yeah. Great vid, thanks for leaving some of the demo for me to discover. ❤

That intro doesn't get more "85 year old Aussie bloke on a chair having a yarn". That is spot on for most outback towns. [E] A Chook is chicken mate. :) Roo tastes a bit gamey, it's got a strong flavour.

This game has an odd spin on philosophy in the way its morale chart is laid ; Utilitarian versus Nihilist , and Machiavellian versus Humanist. I'm not entirely sure that these principals are completely exclusive to one another , but I can understand why some people would see it this way. Machiavellian is in opposition to Honorable, Nihilist is in opposition to Existentialist, Humanist has no specific counterpart but I could guess that Naturalist is the closest, Utilitarian is said to be in opposition to Deontological which I find a bit confusing. On second thought , I realize that this game is putting us in a position where we have to conjugate two of those principals but can't combine the ones that are presented as opposites. Weird selection none the less in my opinion.

It's actually worse than that. It's more like "I don't care, I am just following orders". The third option sounds ideal: you're still doing your job, but also informing "the judge" that this man may be innocent.

It's funny how, whenever there's some kind of moral decision in games, there's like a 90% chance that Splatt will pick the most cowardly, most cruel, most evil option -- unless something else just looks like it would be solidly better.

I can definitely understand why it isn't for everyone. To be honest its a little difficult to describe exactly why I loved it, precisely because it really isn't like anything else. Its a CRPG but really its more like the old Lucas Arts point and click in some ways in the sense that there are (mostly) no hard fail states, and being a ridiculous human being to the NPCs or failing a dice role becomes integrated into the story in really rewarding ways. Phenomenal, crazy, poignant, hilarious writing. Absolutely stellar voice acting (the narrator is worth the price of admission imho, his voice is unreal). An absolutely gorgeous soundtrack. The best side kick character ever in Kim Kitsuragi. A surprisingly rich world seen through a noir-esque lens, with some subtle but absolutely fascinating sci-fi and fantasy elements. Really interesting philosophical and political concepts. I've seen it for $9.99 on Steam sales, the best thing I can really do is to say go get it and experience it (fast playthrough would be 15-20 hours, but I take my time and my playthrough ended up being like 35-40 first time and there is a fair amount of replay value).

@@Pannenberg This. Disco Elysium felt like something that doesn't care about conventions, or simply doesn't know what those are, just like the main character. It managed to evoke emotions that probably no other game did, the realization moment which I won't spoil hit very hard and I actually felt like the character. I'm not a CRPG fan by any means, I don't like reading long dialogues and memorizing details and yet I listened to every word in the game, making deductions, guesses, trying to catch small things that don't add up. Long story short it's one of the most unique games I've played and one of the best as well, I doubt Broken Roads comes close but I'll give it a shot.

Yep, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, and the old Infinity Engine games, old Fallout games, Ultima series etc are all influences. Versus Evil, our publisher, also published Pillars.

@@DropBearBytes I certainly am enjoying the demo so far, and I really dig the art and voice over work. Can't wait for full release.
