Brooklin Dave, if you are reading this, let me say you're the best. Really support all your trash talking and excellent chess. Please keep on it. All the best, from Portugal

At 3:22, positions shown white castle with beasts in the central and pawn offensive, explained for the later casualty count. Queen and rooks offense is later.

Watching these guys dual it out is always fun and they are both such cool characters. Did Brooklyn Dave quit smoking all together? If so, good on ya man, hard to do.

At last, Dave vs. Carlini! 8:49 the plan is to move Q to f6 to combo with double rook Re4e8+. But it was exchanged by the queen at b2. So i think it must be removed from that square first. So Re1e2 threatening queen b2. If the queen eats a3 pawn then proceed to Qf6 for a mate. If queen moves to still protect that diagonal, then move h5 pawn to h6 to attack.

You're missing something in your own analysis. At 8:49, if 1. Re2 Qxa3 2. Qf6, then Black potentially has perpetual with 2... Qh3+. What you also missed was that if 1. Re2 Qxa3 2. Re8+ Rxe8 3. Rxe8+ Kg7 4. Qf6#. So if White does play 1. Re2, then Black can play something safe like 1. ...Qg7

@@matthewviramontes3131 it does better. The idea is to put the queen to f6 to checkmate the king. So putting rook to e8 is also a solution. If the queen takes a3 pawn it's true that it can Qh3+ but we can move Re1e3 to cover and attack the queen. If the queen keeps checking the king can roll to near the rook to cover

I really felt like Dave was angling to do a bishop sacrifice, from 3:50 onward, but just didn't pull the trigger in time. He even could have tried a double bishop sac...

At 8:11 rook to G4 to attack pawn with the queen and attack the queen and defend the back rank with the other rook instead of taking the queen with the rook

Was this the Karpov-Kasparov game Dave was referring to? www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1067179 Kasparov played the Sicilian, while Karpov moved his a pawn. (but to a4, not a3)

Carlos Chavez Not just the pawn. After black queen takes pawn (every other move loses the queen right away), RE8+ and then white can take black queen.

7:00 he should take the pawn, then if queen takes back, check with rook, forcing him to take the rook and then take his queen with queen
