Santa Rosa Half is a sweet race. I ran it once for the first time in 2023 and my family is making a family tradition of going every year because the whole area and race is amazing.

My favorite part was when you say "don't want to overthink it... I think I'm overthinking it." All of us the day before any race.

I really appreciate the details you go into. It’s a lot to remember, but awesome that you share your experiences with us. The video quality, editing and narrating really make great, informative videos. Most other channels are not this good. Keep them coming Eric. Well done in your race! 👏🏼👏🏼

Great breakdown, I also ran and PR'd this. I think the bag pickup mess was caused by the change to the start layout, they split the corrals to opposite sides of Washington St on Eastern Parkway to give more access to porta potties rather than using only one half per wave, so couldn't do drop-off by Bib numbers.

That baggage situation is exactly what happened in Chicago last year in the Abbots Age Group tent. Chaos! I just sat on the ground for an hour while they laid all the bags out on the grass. Come back to Boston!!!! I can’t wait to go back for number 4 🎉🎉

Come down under and do the Gold Coast half/mara. Super flat course, which I'm doing this year, looking to break 90min in the half. Its so cool to see how far you've come in your running journey, keep it up!

Las Vegas rock and roll half is surprisingly good. I'm a vegas local so The Strip is really a love/hate thing for us locals (mostly hate). I ran it this last February. But it's super flat, fast, run in the evening, easy logistics... and dare I say... perfect for "content." Weather can be a issue though. Vegas gets windy at times. This past race was pretty good. Maybe 65 at the start, 4:30pm, and got cooler as it went. No sun. Worth checking out. Oh and cheap airfare too!

I totally know how you feel about New York, I'm the same. I was a huge Ghostbusters fan when I was a kid (still am). When I ran New York Marathon last year, I got a picture outside the firehouse. It's probably my favourite picture! 🙂 one day, I'll run it again. 💪

Great eefort dude, congrats on that PB! Something I usually do is run a half 3 to 5 weeks before my main marathon. Usually I get a PB in that scenario, but I never do a specific half marathon block (I normally do two marathon blocks and one 5k/10k block per year) The summer of speed is going to be great for you!

Don't give up on Boston Eric! It's the true runner's race and a unique challenge. For a smaller Midwest half, try City of Lakes in Minneapolis. It's a USATF event with some fast dudes. Congrats on the PB! Get after it! Minneapolis def a huge running community.

I don't think it's a question of Bostom Marathon. It's BA being ridiculous to people who film there and make content. Why sign up for that crap when there are so many good content races out there.

Thank god for that downhill after the big hill in Prospect. Was such a nice "reset" for me and I think I literally said aloud "alright, time to go." Ocean blvd dragged a bit but it was such a cruise that it wasn't an issue for me (though if you were in wave 2 you got a lot of direct sun). I had heard to "kick" a bit early because kicking on a boardwalk isn't ideal and I'd say that was good advice too 🤣

Hey Eric, I think I know why your (21:00) stomach has issues, I experienced the same after my marathon: it’s blood flow. « During exercise, there may be a reduction of up to 80% in the blood flow to the abdominal organs, as the body sends more blood to the muscles and skin. » The study (Gastrointestinal Complaints During Exercise: Prevalence, Etiology, and Nutritional Recommendations) recommends taking in a sports drink with carbs right after, it might help.
@JohnBirtchetSharpe7 ай бұрын
I am a lover of the spagetti and meat balls but I think for pre race carbs I would have selected something a little more basic (like your dish) less fats etc to do interesting things to my stomach over the 24 hours. I am so paranoid about not having to visit the portaloo's that I tend to have just a bottle of hule /Yfood and plain bagel in the morning before the race (I know not the coolest comment but hey, it's honest). Thanks for the walkthrough intersting the commonality of thoughts we all have during these races regardless of pace.

This was my first Half back in 2022, I absolutely hate the second half of this race because it becomes such a mental struggle with it being a straight path, little cover from the sun (was 80+ plus and humid that day) and sporadic crowds. Great memory but not one that I'm itching to do again lol. The NYC half in March is a lot better even if the course is tougher!

Yup bag pick up was bad this time-they used to have bag pick up sections based on bib numbers, and switched to corral numbers, so everyone in the same corral finish around the same time together and rushed to the same pick up section. BTW I followed you for a while, wanted to say something but I was dying. Great race!
