I would suggest trying to puncture the plastic with something like a small brad nail instead of drilling. The drill bit usually creates FOD (Foreign Object Debris) to fall inside which could lead to clogging within the cartridge itself.

I thought about that. I'll try that next time. I'd have to buy something like a vice to keep the cartridge stable though. So far it's been OK. Still printing.

@@roydhatta I punctured the plastic with the syringe (heated with a candle).

@@ginasanchez4913 That works too! Probably less chance of debris inside to clog up the cartridge.

Any updates? Does this method still work for you?

Still works. Even the resetting levels trick works so far. See below.

did you not reseal the hole you drilled in it?
@roydhatta Жыл бұрын
Nope, I’m just careful not to tip it over. Also, since the hole is deep in the existing opening you don’t see the drilled area.

I'm glad to report success in following this method using the same ink I had refilled my canon cartridges. Avoid overfilling more than 15cc in the black tank and about 10cc in the color tanks. The colors are bright and do not smear on glossy photo paper as the Brother ink smudged even after waiting 24hrs I count it as a double win, saving the cost of a set of cartridges and being able to use glossy paper again.

does it not require a chip reset?
@roydhatta Жыл бұрын
I didn't bother to reset the chip at all. I just put in the ink, and it prints full color. It was even old ink I used for another printer. That one and Epson I did use a resetter. I did notice that at one time it skipped some lines, and worried that it might be the print head. But now I do a full color test print to make it work fine. I will say that on screen the levels say they're very low, but it seems to just stay like it was when I first added the ink. Hope that helps.

What brand and type of ink do you use for a Brother LC404 BK?
@roydhatta Жыл бұрын
I just used refill inkjet ink from previous vendors. One is called IMS, LLC and the other company is called Nano Digital. You can google search LC404 brother ink refill kits, and the more current companies will show up after the first 2 pages. Good luck!

I've made a follow-up video of "resetting" the levels by swapping out old cartridges with a new one, and then back again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4evd6hjmplqnqs
