omg! I was putting off buying a new printer because the MFC-L2703DW that I have had for nearing possibly 8 years now just bricked one day.. I tried to get it to work before ultimately leaving it unplugged and abandoned in the hallway.. until I found your video today! I held down the power button, plugged it in to the wall and switched the outlet on, AND IT WORKED! I was looking at buying a new one and upgrading to colour but really couldn't afford to just replace it let alone the additional $300ish on top of the $250 for a similar replacement. On top of the toners that I had just recently bought which I thought I had just wasted my money on. Thankyou thankyou thankyou! At least one thing went right this week.

Thanks for the video. I would have struggled trying to get the printer open and find the supercapacitor without this video. I replaced mine today and now the printer turns on normal again.

I have a different printer (Brother HL- 3290CDW series) and for it to turn on, I was told to Lift the scanner lid and open any other doors. then unplug, and hold the power button down and plug it back in, and it came on. Hallelujah!!!

Do you have a video if the power supply or control board has been fried? We had an electrical supply issue that resulted in 3 different electronic pieces destroyed by over voltage due to a faulty neutral wire.

@@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs Further explanation please. The shape that I have placed the new one is exactly the same as the one I've just pulled out. However, the new one has a + and - on either side of the super capacitor. Both sides look identical besides the + and -. I've placed the positive side + and soldered it to the left prong, and the - has been soldered to the right prong. I'm unsure if that's correct as it's not turning on and there was no + and - on the old capacitor, just an arrow at the top pointing to the right.

I have a Brother mfc j53200dw printer vurtually the same as this but can't get the cover levered up to access the Super capacitor, tried everything, I have removed all screws identified and nothing else in the way, can't see any hidden screws but the back of the cover refuses to budge even by lifting a little with spud device. Does my model differ????

this model is difficult to work on due to the extra feeder at the back which I have never been able to work out how to remove, I did one yesterday by using blocks of wood to hold the inner cover up just enough to disconnect the flat flexible cables and get a soldering iron in there.

@@TerryJonesPrinterRepairs Finally managed to lift it enough to remoce super cap' as the cover is normally hidden I might even cut a very neat square hole to solder from above, almost as though they don't want you to work on their printers!

@@martin54123 Its just this model with the feeder on the back that makes it difficult. I've yet to find some spare time to work out how to pull it off but i'm sure it is actually really easy once the trick is worked out. In the meantime i just use blocks of jenga to hold it up, disconnect the cables, cut the old cap off the board then solder the new one on. Give the printer body a cleanout 15-20 minutes tops and easy $180.00 income. Do it 4 times a day and life is good.

@@marijanmarijan1073 as explained in the video you have let it go too long. The first sign that the capacitor is starting to leak is the fact that you cannot turn it on properly simply by pushing the power button. If you had replaced the supercapacitor when your printer first started developing this problem you wouldn't be in the position you're currently in. The failed leaking supercapacitor has damaged the motherboard and in turn that is then damaged your power supply. Your lack of attention to the problem means you now need to get a new printer or find someone who can supply you a power supply and a main board.

All Brother printers of this vintage need to be regreased with fluorinated silicone oil otherwise the motors draw too much current from the extra friction created by the dried up grease causing the power board to blow up.
