Brother MFC-L2740DW Toner Error Reset

My Brother printer will give me an error code after so many pages that says my toner is out. I pulled out the cartridge and realized that it was half full. In this video, I will show you how to reset this error code so you don't have to refill, or buy, more toner cartridges every time the machine tells you.

I've seen text instructions for how to reset the "replace toner" message on a Brother printer, but those all seemed to be written for printers with a different control panel from mine. This is so you can continue to use your printer with the same cartridge that has a low toner warning. The toner low means that you have exceeded the number of prints per cartridge. It does not measure the toner.

Great video, thank you! Couple of very poor design choices with this printer. First, when the toner level is low and the printer has a message stating that, the fan NEVER turns off. So the printer is constantly drawing power and making the loud noise of the fan. Second, when this error message of low toner is up, you CANNOT turn off the printer to stop the fan either. Doing this reset, allowed the fan to turn off and also for me to turn the printer off if I wanted to. However, with the fan no longer making so much noise I decided to leave it on until I can replace the toner. All that said, the toner is still printing perfectly fine pages!

As someone mentioned below, if you have the model with out the number pad, just press and hold were the # should be. It seems to work. Had me confused for a bit

This works, go to the fax option to light up the numbers to see where the # would be. Make sure you are pressing hard enough as well. Thank you!!!!!

I looked up what I could and the opinions that i read suggest that it is not a problem and they don't think that damage will occur.----But I do not know if they are experts so do your own research.

H there, I've got the printer door open, put it in fax mode and the numbers light up, and I held down the # key for over 5, 10, 20 and 30 seconds multiple different times and I never get the "Reset" option. I'm stuck here. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was stuck here for a while too - the fax mode is just so you know where your # key is (you do NOT want to enter fax mode while you're in the middle of the reset process). This is what I did from start to finish: 1. Before starting anything, I entered fax mode to find where the # key is located since it blackens out during the reset process. Then exit fax mode. 2. Open toner tray. Press the # key for 5 sec (since you can't actually see it, you're literally just pressing the general area of where the # key is supposed to be) 3. The reset screen pops up and then you can follow the directions in the video (select TNR-STR-A and "reset") Hopefully that helped!!

go to make copies the keypad will light up. try to mark where the # pound key or * star key is ( some models use * instead of #pound) and follow the procedure

The keyboad only lights up in fax mode. The pound key still works. Hold the pound key down for 5 seconds. The blacken "#" is hard to see.

I could not find my keyboard either. Last resort - I pulled the cartridge out and put it back in. I then found it was not settled completely. I pushed straight down (Just an eighth of an inch). It clicked and works perfectly. Have no idea how it came loose in the first place. Try it. It might work.
