This video helped me and I fixed our printer. It was tricky getting the printer apart to reach the laser mirror, but I did it. I used alcohol to clean mine and a cotton swab. Was nervous I wouldn't get it back together, but did.

I have a Lexmark MS510dn which I bought second hand. It always had the problem of left side fading and it appears it is getting somewhat worse with age. First time I found a decent and concise explanation of the matter. Thank you very much. Thanks for posting this video. Told me exactly what I needed to know, I cleaned the rubber rollers and mine worked. I didn't have to access the Laster but now I know how if it become necessary if I need to remove the plastics outgassing that condenses on the mirror.

Its funny i make this video showing how to solve this problem a problem I fix frequently and with you making a mention of a KM454e you have answered a problem konica problem I had a month ago that I left unresolved. Is it possible for the mirrors to be "dirty" without that dirt being visible??? We have a Brother HL-5250DN where the leftmost inch or so is maybe 1/4 of the print density of the rest of the page. However I couldn't see any dirt or haze at all on the mirror, even when examined with a magnifying glass. The reflection of the drive cable for that motor in all of the mirror edges was sharp and clear from edge to edge. Is there some better visualization method for seeing this contamination, if present? Also, in the video you pulled the mirrors out of the printer. Is alignment of this part critical or is "wherever the screws put it" good enough?

Check the density of the toner on the dev roller

On closer inspection the test page was light because of light vertical streaks. The toner cartridge is a Rosewill RTCG-TN580 and the doctor blade is not visible (at least to me) between the case and the developer roller. A piece of printer paper was folded in half and creased, but it could not be inserted blindly behind the roller into that space. A single sheet of printer paper, prebent to match the roller's curvature, did slide in between the blade and the roller, and once in it was dragged to the light side. Luckily it came back out intact. That fixed the problem, no more light print on one edge of the page. Thanks!

Us old technicians talk generally about the laser motor. The first laser motor that was invented was invented by Canon and it was a polygon motor and that name has stuck since the mid 1980s. HP had a four-sided laser motor in the LaserJet 5L 6L in the service manual it's called a polygon motor

But seriously, i will be using the info from video to return to a customer to clean this "spinny mirror" and finally get the brother printer fixed. i had known a similar fault with a canon image press 6000 with dirty laser mirror, fixed by cleaning it.

Have you encountered a situation with Brother printers where there are dark smudges on the left 1" of the paper? Doesn't matter if there is text or images or not. I found wrinkles on the left side of the fuser and replaced the fuser but the condition continues

The imaging drum? It's brand new. I've replaced the toner cartridge, the imaging drum, and the fuser BTW I went into maintenance mode last night and printed a test pattern print and when it gets to the solid black bar I noticed clumps of toner and then when the black bar stops the page is clean, at least until the next page prints. So could there be an issue with the developer roller in the toner cartridge or the nipping blade?

Yes you rarely have to replace laser motors

How do you get to this mirror if you don't have an MFC? I have the normal Brother printer (HL-L6200DW) but have this same problem (faded on left side)

L6200dw is a bit too new to have this problem unless its in a hot dusty environment. Check your toner and drum 1st. clean the inside roof above the toner/drum with a damp rag.

I did check toner and drum and cleaned those already and it fixed and removed black smudges however the left side of prints are faded so based on process of elimination it has to be the mirror that you talked about in the video.
