Vessel bladders split, water passes to the other side of vessel where the air should be. This is what causes rust and the orange water. You can unbolt the bladder and replace but easier to change the vessel Funny enough I replaced one yesterday. Great content as always Tom 👍🏼
@PlumbLikeTom2 жыл бұрын
Ive seen it before where the vessel has pin holed because its rusted fully through, nobody seems to get these little heaters serviced so it seems to be a common problem, thanks for watching mate 👍

Tom, is the PRV in this video in the cold water input or the hot water output pipe of the water heater? Have you seen PRVs not functioning properly due to limescale build-up?
@PlumbLikeTom2 жыл бұрын
The prv on an unvented water heater is on the cold inlet side, prv's should be tested yearly when the heaters are serviced to ensure they open. The problem with this is they don't always re-seal, so I understand why people don't touch them. They can get to a point where they don't open at all. I went to a job last Saturday where a fill loop was passing, the pressure was around 5 bar and the heating expansion vessel split. The prv was very stiff and I really struggled to make it open, I obviously replaced it but it shows they don't always operate as they should

Hi Tom just wondering about a invented cylinder the hot water is coming brown would it be expansion vessel or the coil leaking
@27forme22 жыл бұрын
The cylinder was fitted in 2019
@PlumbLikeTom2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, it's unlikely to be the coil as the pressure in the mains water side of the cylinder will likely be higher than the coil side, so if the coil were to pin hole the pressure would increase in the heating system, it's most likely to be a rotted out expansion vessel, hope this helps mate 👍

nice one Tom....how do you feel safe using an existing Flexi tap connector? have done the same myself but always a bit of a worry
@PlumbLikeTom2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I know some people will disagree with me and may change the flexis every time but these honestly didn't look too bad at all, there was no splitting or kinks on the bradding and there were no tell tail rust spots where they sometimes look to be damaged. If I see anything I'm not happy with I will always change it but sometimes its where you stop on a job, thanks for watching and I appreciate the support

@@PlumbLikeTom yes mate agree...but they are a bit of a menace..guess ya just gotta trust em unless ye see spikey rusty spots etc

Not a pro on water heaters mate but usually when I come access them (in schools) they are about to burst, as I'm aware there is a sacrificial anode in them and if it has corroded then the heater starts rusting as I think they are iron heaters (I think lol) usually best to replace them in my opinion. Hopefully your not called back tho. Will just say great video now even before I finish watching.👍👍
@PlumbLikeTom2 жыл бұрын
Most heaters are steel but have a plastic coating inside them to prevent rusting, some heaters require those plastic adaptors on top before connecting the pipes to stop corrosion of dissimilar metals. I am sure the fault on this heater was caused by the bladder split in the vessel causing rusting, no call back yet and its been a couple of weeks so fingers crossed
@neilmccartney99872 жыл бұрын
@@PlumbLikeTom thanks for the answer to the plastic connectors as so so so many guys just through them out and never fit them, to be fair the most ones that are burst that I go to don't have them👍👍. Great video and I also don't like flexibles but those did look in ok condition.
