Big Alert for Iceland customers over the age of 60! As of Tuesday 24 May, and every Tuesday thereafter, Iceland is giving people over 60 a 10% discount on all shopping with no minimum spend. Proof of age, such as a driving licence or senior bus or rail card will be required. So I'm going to start buying other groceries there, too. Iceland stock the basics like milk, butter and bread. The butter is the same price as at Tesco and Aldi, but 10% off makes Iceland the cheaper buy on Tuesdays. Let's see whether other supermarkets will follow suit with discounts for pensioners.

HP sauce used to be made a few miles from where I live and what made it so nice was the water that was underneath the factory, they also made the daddy's sauce on the same site and next door to that was a brewery.

Stopped getting HP on principle, I’ve tried a few and if it ain’t got tamarind I don’t buy it.. Some have too much nutmeg and it spoils it for me.. Should be sweet, tangy and hack a little kick.. Bramwells is good for the price, a couple of shakes of Lea & Perkins into the bottle, then shake makes it very good indeed.. 👍

I had the skinny BBQ sauce it is low cal wasnt very nice as a condiment but as i dont like to waste food it was OK as an enhancement to homemade chilli con carne or savoury mince. I used to like Hamonds Chop sauce but havent seen it for Donkeys, where did you get it from?. I used to have HP every time for decades but stopped buying it when they moved the Factory from Aston to Poland! I like the lidl one as its complex but not that expensive. Now that its summer i must go to Aldi to try some of the foods you have shown us and see if they are different to Lidl. We go to the car boot in Guildford on a sunday and Aldi is in Guildford. Near me its Tesco, Lidl or sainsburys. When i worked in Nutfield Morrisions and iceland were on the way home. When i worked in Croydon it was Asda and Iceland. I think the supermarkets choose a location where there arent many supermarkets. So i would not worry about you not getting Lidl or Sainburys.

If you have a lidl or an aldi near by try their own brand! I always used to buy HP and as you say the cheapers ones are harsher and more vinegary. Dewhurst has been owned by a few investment companies over the years - I think it's DMB Foods and S.L.O. foods depending on the type of product now. To be honest I thought most of the range was trash when I looked at the ingredients in Pound Stretcher, but I guess with brown sauce it's all about the balance of flavour. I would imagine that you can get the exact same brown sauce under a different brand name though if you do some research. I can't even find any trace of it online though, just the ketchup.
