I see a lot of comments disparaging these guys. What they're doing here should be praised. They're sitting down and having a respectful discussion with someone in order to examine their own decisions and reflect on how those decisions measure up to their own ethical beliefs. It's really daunting to try to reconsider a major part of your lifestyle and they made great progress here. They're clearly very intelligent people.

Not trying to start a conflict here but I really don't think they deserve much credit. They were happy to say at the end with big smiles and a selfie that they MIGHT give veganism a go, but they spent the entire discussion saying, "Yes, you are right. What I am doing is wrong. And I have friends who are going vegan and also some young people are going vegan and that's a really positive thing. But no, I won't take any responsibility for this and I will continue to do the wrong thing."

I agree with almost everything Ed says. If I were in a slaughter house and had to see it I am pretty sure I could not eat it later. If I were in the Woods and had to pull he trigger on something I could not do it. I love all animals. The issue is that when I look at meat I don't think animal, I think food. The switch has to flip inside my brain and so far it has not come close to flipping. I am convinced rationally but I am not convinced emotionally because as I said I don't associate meat with a living animal which I know is really stupid. The one thing I can say to justify eating meat is that nobody is morally perfect. I know people will say the killing of animals is needless. Well so is having more money than lets say 20 million dollars while there are people literally starving in this world and yet there is no massive outrage against rich people. At the end of the day I agree with all the arguments but I am just not convinced.

I think I've been spending too much time on reddit. I honestly didn't expect them to become flustered when he asked them the pleasure vs. life question. On reddit people just go "they're not human so they don't count" or "my pleasure outweighs everything". Props to them for not being "edgy" assholes.

@Meshari Hey, nice strawman you've got there. Is it flamable? No, obvious-fucking-ly I don't believe that. But you won't die by going vegan so it's not pitching your life vs. that of a cow, now is it?
@alexs.5871
@alexs.5871 5 жыл бұрын
@Meshari Every animal that has the capability to feel pain and to suffer is intrinsically the same. Of course humans assign higher value to other humans but sensory pleasure should never outweigh the life of a being capable of suffering.
@TXRhody
@TXRhody 5 жыл бұрын
@Meshari You did not read their responses. It is not necessary to believe that animals are equal to humans. It is only necessary to believe that the life of an animal has more value (to the animal) than a fleeting moment of taste sensation.
@TXRhody
@TXRhody 5 жыл бұрын
@Meshari You asked a question: "You think all life forms are intrinsically equal?" I showed that your question is irrelevant. You threw a tantrum and then concluded that veganism fails. You might be the worst troll I have ever seen.
@alexs.5871
@alexs.5871 5 жыл бұрын
@Meshari Intrinsically we have the same right to live as a fucking cockroach. We obviously value our lives higher though (as I've stated before). I also value a human's life higher than a cockroach's. As many of us have mentioned though, it's never human life vs. non-human animal life. It's your momentary sensory pleasure vs. non-human animal's life. So I'll ask you again, how flammable is that fucking strawman of yours?

*_DEBATE: What if someone argued that they are not Vegan because they wanted to live the healthiest and longest life possible. That means they mimic a diet from Monaco and Japan (places with the highest life expectancy). How would you respond EARTHLING TED or any Vegan Activist?_*
@sauceboss38

Veganism has nothing to do with health, it's the recognition of the fact that cruelty to animals in today's world is unnecessary and unjustifiable. If we wanted to bring up the health aspect, however, you could take a look at the China Study, the most comprehensive nutritional study ever conducted, which concluded that the optimal amount of animal products in one's diet is none.

This once again reinforces my opinion that the general population at large have close to no clue about nutrition. That’s by design. We, as a collective, really have no idea what we’re eating and how our bodies actually work.

You can if you don't think it is ethically wrong. I am vegan myself, but that is the only answer I have come across in discussions that I simply can't argue against. Morality after all is subjective, even if it is shaped by societal norms.

@Peter Rubin being vegan is optimal for nutrition
@imMundy
@imMundy 5 жыл бұрын
@Peter Rubin I wouldn't go as far as the other guy and say it's optimal got nutrition as we simply don't have the data for that. It does appear to be a far better diet than the standard Western diet however. People like to bring up b12 but that is irrelevant as it is supplemented to the animals we eat, so either way you are supplementing b12. That's not even an issue anyway, it shouldnt matter if something is supplemented, people are typically vegan for ethical reasons.
