One thing I was told by Anthony Pepe (who I bowled against in high school) is "one thing that seperate you from a really good bowler and a bad bowler is adjustments" if you know how to adjust to the lanes with you're arsenal in you're bag? Then you're there. A board or two with your feet and or target makes all of the difference. Love the vids. Keep up the good work with the kids and great content Randy.

Rowan is bowling how Hunter was about a year ago. Good bowling and has the potential to bowl with the varsity guys. Hunter has improved his game so much. I remember when Hunter used to change between one handed and two handed bowling. Glad he stuck with two handed,it shows he has improved tremendously. John has a good game,he just has to know that he might have to use his hook ball for spares. It's almost like he's trying to do it like the pros in using his spare ball for spares. Which he should definitely practice on. But if you're not accurate on spare shooting like 7 pin spares,then it's best you use a hook ball to hit it. Same for Jake. Also if he can stay Solid at the line like Tyrell he can be a problem on the lanes.

I don't really work with him much. His dad is his coach, and I pop in every now and then and offer an observation when it seems appropriate. He's so much better now than when he first started. He was a one-hander when he began, and I was glad to see him make the switch. The high follow-thru is great *IF* he keeps his body down. Raring up just makes you tend to pull the ball left of target. UNLESS you're raring up for the expressed purpose of trying to LOFT the ball (which he does not do). So my advice is, keep that left knee bent through the release and finish the shot without raising up. Follow through with your right arm as high as you want. Just keep your legs, hips and torso DOWN when you do it. Follow thru without raring up and you'll be well on your way.
@Jared462905 жыл бұрын
John will learn that just because it's a spare, you don't need to use your spare ball....a few times he left shots on the left side and just overpowered it, but he's young he will learn
@ProdigyBowlersTour5 жыл бұрын
John will learn, I hope, that bowling is easier when your action is not all arms, but a coordinated motion where the arms, torso, hips and legs all play an active roll in making the motion happen. He's very "armsy" which means he has to work extra hard to do the bowling throw. It is the classic case of powerless effort vs. effortless power. He's working way too hard. He's getting results because we're on the house shot. I don't believe he's ever bowled on a sport pattern. He'll get a rude awakening when he does.

@ProdigyBowlersTour5 жыл бұрын
Where do I start? You should have seen John a year ago when I first worked with him. He's made a lot of progress. We've been wanting to get together to do another lesson, but just haven't connected. Now that Summer's here, hopefully our schedules will free up enough that we can. He has a lot of things to work on. As coaches, we tend to focus on the physical game, especially when a player is first starting out. I like to introduce the spare game -- angles, how to adjust for different spares, etc. -- once I have some confidence that the player can actually hit what he's looking at. Until then, the best spare system is essentially worthless.

Jujuan (JuJu Bean, I call him) has one big problem he needs to overcome, and I've been trying for years to get Christian to stop doing it, so I'm very familiar with it. Rather than just SWINGING the ball, he HOISTS it up to the top of the swing, and then tends to jerk it back down. He started getting better about it recently. But old habits are hard to break, and he kinda fell back into his old ways on this show. As a result, he sometimes throws the ball too hard. But he told me once that he really admired Christian's game, and so that may be the source of the problem. I'd rather he mimic Christian's rev rate than his high backswing. (Christian HOISTS it up there, too.) But when Jujuan just swings it (shoulder high), he can really bowl. He doesn't know how good he can be. But I'm determined to make him one of my pet projects next season. He turned a corner here recently, and I think he could go from being a 129 average (which is how he finished the season) to a 180 in the blink of an eye. And another year of training and I think I could have him averaging 200. But he's limited in the arsenal he has (one ball). So we'll have to go to work on that. Hey, GoFundMe........I've got a kid here......

Generally speaking, I tend to shy away from giving tips to people without seeing them bowl. There are people who can average higher than that with a low rev rate and a speed of around 16.5 MPH. So it's not a matter of "matching up." I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess about what you're doing without seeing you bowl first.

You should consider a scratch division for some of the scholarship money. Your better bowlers are at a disadvantage in this format. The handicap favors the younger bowlers with improving games. Your higher average bowlers are usually older, the scholarship money could help them immediately.
@ProdigyBowlersTour5 жыл бұрын
This is not a debateable point. The format of this tournament was first dreamed up by the people at Brunswick Corporation and was instituted at all their centers around the country. Then when Bowlmor-AMF bought the Brunswick centers, they embraced the format and continued to make it part of their youth program, company-wide. I support this format and think it's the best one for what it's supposed to achieve. It's for our LEAGUE bowlers, not our TOURNAMENT bowlers. We do plenty of scratch events all season long on PRODIGY, and if our participants want to start paying $50 a week to enter, I'll be happy to turn that into SMART Scholarship Awards to give them something meaningful to bowl for. But judging from how the local area Top Dog Junior events went (which is to say they stopped holding them due to lack of interest), I'd say what we're doing now is working quite nicely. There is a long story behind the scholarship money being part of this tournament. Too long to go into here. Suffice it to say, I've beefed it up in recent years. But it all comes out of the LEAGUE prize fund. So it should be offered to our LEAGUE bowlers, not just our elite tournament bowlers. That would be a mis-use of the league funds, in my opinion.

That'll never happen. This is a LEAGUE event, with kids of all skill levels competing. Handicap is the only way to do it. We've had low average kids and high average kids win it. So don't tell me a high average kid can't win it. They HAVE won it. (Last year, in fact.) The rules for this event were first laid out by Brunswick Corporation when they owned our bowling center, may years before I started coaching there. I have continued what was started years ago. It's my favorite weekend of the year. As long as I'm there, we'll continue doing this tournament just this way.
