Nick is doing what I started doing at the end of the season....and I hit my driver best then. Here was my swing keys: good knee bend, rear end back, bigger bend forward from waist, reaching a bit more for ball - all these put me in a good balanced position to hit hard. Then the key, taking the club back inside by turning the body and trying to keep the left arm almost attached to the body on the backswing. It looks like what he's doing.

Remember, there is a point in every swing where the body slows and the arms and club catch up. The “crack of the whip” provides power and release. Never be fooled into thinking the downswing is a never-ending turn.

Christo - loved this analysis. Wasn't aware of how awesome Mr. Devlin's swing was back in the day! I'm looking forward to trying the body swing once I'm able to get back out on the course here in NY.

Surprised Hogan liked Devlin's game. Devlin hit it low with a draw/hook. Saw him shoot 65 in an exhibition once Player was his partner against a couple of local players. Player shot a perfect 64.

@J@DW, FYI no one played more golf with Ben Hogan than Bruce Devlin; and Mr Devlin still plays the game. Like Ben Hogan, Mr Devlin aligns all five levers in a common plane... the SLOT .

Good call Cristo, your buddy Nick's swing is a close match to Devlin. Also the down the line Devlin picture , he reminds me of the 1960's Arnold Palmer look in profile and hair style.

Christo, there is something to keeping the head stationary on the downswing that facilitates unhindered rotation. I am really having success with this concept, especially the driver. It seems to promote the rotation around the spine and repeatability of the swing.

That move into the left side looks like a “downhill” swing to me, and I don’t mean because he may have a downhill lie. He starts moving left with a low left hip before he finishes the backswing.

Hell, I like Nick's better than Devlin's! Watch Nicks left foot. Post like. Nearly zero lateral roll. Best baseball swing with a golf club I've ever seen. Mine does that with a baseball swing but not a golf swing. Devlin's rolls out considerably with his lateral move while Nick's balance is maintained better in my opinion with really good use of the pivot. My key takeaway from this video thanks Cristo.

I've been working on that "running at the ball" or attacking the ball with the left knee (I'm a lefty) and it really helps with the extension through the follow through

Thanks for sharing this video. It supports more and more of what I recently learned that on any golf swing one should end up where one starts. Please allow me to briefly explain. As you noted his rounded shoulders, I also see that his arms, hands and wrist are a considerable distant from his body than most modern players would generally employ. I also recall a video where you felt you had better contact with the ball after bringing your hand, arms and wrists closer to your body. My discovery is that the distant anyone places his arms hands and wrists from their body does not matter. What is critical in any downswing is that at the bottom of the swing the arms, hands, and wrists mimics the exact location one had place them at set up. With this in mind I focus less on striking the ball and more attention on the location I have placed my arms hand and wrist in relationship to my body in order to return them as such at the bottom of my swing. By that time the momentum of the golf club finishes my downswing nicely. Thanks for reading

I think Hogan may have known this fact himself when he suggested the feeling of wrapping our arms together at the set up. what he did not state is that this is how we should feel our hands and arms at the bottom of our swing as well. Perhaps this was his secret.

I would like to see what would happen with Christo's drives if he: a: stood with feet wider than shoulder width b: bend the knees more for a more athletic stance - a more "sit down" look. Do you ever "experiment" Christo? Would love to find out what happened to the ball if you did this.

That flattish swing and lower body looks like Arnie, btw Ken Venturi who played a lot w/ Hogan and Nelson said Hogan was the best course strategist but Nelson the better ball striker..

Look at the Hogan swing at the end. I think this must be his earlier years. What stands out? The width of his stance is greater than shoulder width on the drive. Didn't Moe stand wider too? Could a wider stance create a more "down the line" swing? And a narrower stance a more "rotational" swing?

Christo, at the top of my back swing I start the down swing with my right knee first. Seems to help open things up. Does this make sense?
@MiracleSwingExperience
@MiracleSwingExperience 6 жыл бұрын
Yes! That's what I did last year and might need to go back to it. I would "feel" my right knee connected to my right elbow and when my knee moved left it pulled down my right elbow.
