I studied martial arts (kung fu and karate) when I was young during my school days. I bought it about 19 years ago but did not read as I did not practice at the time. Yesterday, I started to read it as now i want to start practicing martial arts to be healthy again.

Title translation is The Way of the way of the Intercepting fist.And it was not written by Bruce Lee,it is notes from various books he read and he'd change things like Fencer to fighter

@@Eternaprimavera73 In regards to Bruce crediting sources, this book was compiled from his notes after he died. For Bruce Lee it was a book he was working on, not a finished product. As far as him being an actor, he was a martial arts instructor for a decade, most of which was before he started acting as Kato. He continued his schools for some time and developed Jeet Kune Do along the way. You really know nothing about Bruce Lee or Jeet Kune Do.

@@myfriend280 there are many fraud instructors today, when we have more standards. No doubt he also was. Many stories he tells himself, show how fraud he was. On the other side, there are kids who grow, and others that stays with the imprinting they had at the beginning. I mean, everyone has his own path, after all.

For those who say this book wasn’t written by Bruce, you are a little right but mostly wrong. While it is true that the book was extracted from his notes and essentially patched together by an editor in concert with Linda Lee, people need to understand that Bruce had completed a complete photo shoot for a book teaching Jeet Kune Do and so the content of that photo shoot is all Bruce’s content and that content parallels the content of Tao of Jeet Kune Do. In other words, yes it was edited into a book after his death, but the material was all genuinely Bruce’s and, I have to say, thoughtfully collected, structured, and organized. The world loves Bruce Lee and his wife and friends who undertook this project loved him even more. Accurately representing and sharing his martial art for the world was an act of love. They were compelled to do so. Because of their love, Tao of Jeet Kune Do is an integral component of the legacy of Bruce Lee. His spirit is in those pages.

@user-qk6uv8fq5j Impossible. The book was compiled, edited, and published posthumously from Bruce’s writings and notes. Bruce never wrote anything more than segments of a rough draft and it’s not possible to plagiarize a rough draft.

Take a look at Miyamoto Musashi's philosophies. Particular the Book of 5 rings. Seems like Bruce adapted and tailor a hand to hand fighting/life philosophy from that. Reading that will give more understanding to what Bruce tried to convey in his book and interview.

the great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement. you ought not to be thinking... of whether it ends in victory or defeat; but let nature take its course... and your tools will strike at the right moment. the consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance... to the proper execution of all- the knowledge and skill you have achieved are meant to be forgotten. so you can float- to obtain enlightenment in martial art... means the extinction of everything which- the way to transcend karma lies in the proper use of the mind and the will. jeet kune do is not to hurt... but is one of the avenues through which life opens its secrets to us. relaxation is essential... for faster and more powerful punching. let your lead punch shoot up "loosely and easily." do not tighten up or clench your fists... until the moment of impact. all punches should end with a snap several inches... behind the target. the art of jeet kune do is simply to simplify. It favors formlessness so that it can assume all forms. kung fu, karate, tae kwan do. all the classical styles are attempts... to arrest the flux of conflict. but in actual combat, the opponent doesn't wait for formalities. he's not a robot, but a human being, fluid and alive. for instance- for instance! like a sculptor who doesn't keep adding clay to a statue... but strips away the inessentials until the truth is revealed. I have developed a way of fighting with no fixed positions... with no set movements. the fancy mess of martial arts... solidifies what was once fluid. I thought about this book it make me want to program the 18 meter 59 foot Gundam in Japan and make it more mobile using this martial art.Our maybe make my own 59 foot robot.I know Leonardo da Vinci use to take notes and some of the things he thought about doing and his subjects required experience rather than the words of other people.

This book wasn't made by Bruce, it's just a collection of some of his notes. Fun fact, the grappling techniques there are actually choreography for fighting scenes that he did or planned for his movies, not actual jkd training stuff. Also you can't learn JKD from this book.

And if you matched a film scene to his INSTRUCTIONAL drawings its because you just figured out something late, that everyone knew. What he put in his limited films was to SHOW YOU PRACTICALITY, to teach you what reality of Martial Arts is actually like

his first book. chinese gung fu.The philosophical art of self defense. and helping his friend the late james lee with his wing chun kung fu book. he publish nothing else. my guess for not pubishing books, to busy trying to get famous. hell, he didn't like teaching.

Ok, I'll add my two cents. I read it as a kid trying to box. Never became a boxer. Went into computers. Everytime I struggled to learn or master something this book would play in my head. Empty your mind. Approach the problem from a different angle. May not make sense to you but it a great help me.

It’s a very helpful training aid but it’s always best to seek a qualified instructor under Inosanto lineage is best

Here’s Bruce Lee himself “Both Taky and James are more steeped in the Wing Chun Chinese system because they met me at an earlier stage in my development and consequently whenever I see the two of them I try to liberate them from more than one way to talk the path less path. Dan a dedicated professional met me during the midst of my evolution.” -Bruce Lee found in Bruce Lee’s Commentaries on the martial way.

I read this book I think Bruce Lee martial art is a style because he states in the book that a person should not change his style but be may change his plan of attack.Bruce Lee's Jeet kune do was rooted in traditional martial arts I think.

@phillipbedwell8424 JKD is a style however it’s not like other styles where you move/think in a certain way. the techniques depend on the angle, distance and how many opponents. That is what makes it adaptable with simplicity, directness and economy of motion. JKD's development was more into boxing and fencing and virtually no wing chun and Bruce said himself that he named his style this to be separate from Wing Chun since he found it ineffective. Ultimately, Bruce’s fighting approach as he described it as "efficient street fighting with everything goes" with full body gear and resistance.
