Here's the thing you guys: Bruce was a philosopher, like Stephen Hawking, who never went to space, but all his ideas and theories changed humanity forever. In bruce's case, he changed mixed martial arts forever. BUT, if he was born today, and trained like any MMA fighter trains to fight competitive, he would for sure do great in his weight class. He would probably be a goat contender on UFC on the flyweight division. Bruce Lee is a small guy that never did any real MMA/boxe/kickboxing/wrestling/etc. and probably knows very little about graplin and submission and has only striking skills, but no real competition proves he was any good. Real experience training strinking graplin and submission is what makes someone good-actual training with the best and competing for real. Bruce Lee has none of that. i remember when Muhammad Ali was going to fight George Foreman. Everybody said, Foreman would knock Ali out. Professional fighter like Frazier, manages, fight experts all said Foreman would beat Ali. But, Ali was smarter! In a street fight I put my money on Bruce Lee, in a boxing ring with rules I put my money on Tyson. I watched a fight between a military guy, and another military guy, and the fight was over in 2 seconds, with the American GI executing an eye poke. Tyson's peak as a fighter was probably age 22. That's after he beat Michael Spinks but before he lost to Buster Douglas. At this point in his career he was not only in great physical shape, but his skills hadn't quite started to deteriorate yet. The farther you get from Cus D'Amato's death (which happened when Tyson was about 20.5), the sloppier Tyson's style gets and the more he becomes just a slugger. Prison also significantly accelerated the deterioration of Tyson's skill. By the time he was 30 he was really just a slugger -- he could still knock you out with either hand, but the footwork and evasion that was what made him truly special was not there to the same degree. (Its interesting counter-factuals to ask "what would Tyson have been if D'Amato had lived another 5 years or if Tyson had been better able to get along with trainers Rooney and Atlas after D'Amato's death.) Lee's peak as a fighter was probably at his physical peak when he died at 32. (That was 7 years after his fight with Wong Jack Man.) You're flat wrong about Lee's fighting record. There's an objectively researched history (based on eye-witness accounts) of Lee fighting challenge matches against other martial artists of various styles, against his training partners, and against stuntmen wanting to prove something. By every account Lee was an exceptional fighter -- not just theoretically, but man-to-man. Read the book Wrath of the Dragon (its a bombastic title, but the book is objectively written) by reputable journalist John Little which addresses the question of Lee as a fighter with objective historical research. Lee was certainly stronger pound-for-pound, but Tyson was certainly stronger in absolute terms -- and if you're talking about a head-to-head fight, then its absolute terms that count. If Tyson closes to interior range, then he's going to bully Lee and knock him out just as a matter of physics. Even older, sloppier Tyson was proven to have a strong chin and would be able to weather blows to get to his desired range. I think if they fight 100 times, then Tyson probably wins 75 to 90 times over Lee. I'm a full believer in Lee's power and skill, but the idea that he's going to be able to finish Tyson with conventional strikes before Tyson closes to his knockout combination range is not realistic. The way Lee conceivably wins is by landing an intercepting blow to a vital point (eye jab, groin kick, throat strike, or knee joint kick) as Tyson closes and then flurries to finish as Tyson is staggered from the physiological shock. That's a low low probability route to victory though.

So I agree if this is an agreed to no holds barred fight and each knows the other. Tyson easily wins. However there are scenarios where Lee could come out on top. Tyson doesn't know Lee and Lee doesn't know Tyson. Tyson is mad at Lee for talking to his girlfriend in a club and starts the old pushing you to a corner and begins an assault on Lee. Lee was fast enough to put his fingers in your eyes. And this will end a lot of encounters. They could even agree to step outside. In this case, Tyson just sees a small man of 135 pounds. But Lee is on alert because he's facing someone around 220. A well place side kick to the knee or strike to the groin becomes the great equalizer. Since Tyson doesn't know Lee, He's not expecting these types of attacks. So in a straight up fight where each knows, the other Tyson comes out on top easily.But in a social violence, or self defense situation, Lee has a better chance of coming out on top. Just my opinion.

Mike Tyson without a doubt! Even if we imbued Bruce Lee with equal fighting ability, which I don’t believe that he had, Tyson would absolutely crush Lee with the size and strength differential. Now it would be a different story if Lee (now queue the Fantasy Fu music), employed the “quart of blood” technique and ripped Tyson’s heart or throat out. If what you are saying is that it takes tyson a couple rounds to nail bruce that's already too late. It takes bruce less than a second to take your knee out, or kick you in balls or choke tyson. The options are endless

It's alot more than just Tyson's power and furiousness. Even if you shrunk Tyson down to Bruce Lee's size, and he had the same strength and weight, Tyson still very easily wins this fight. He simply has alot of more skill and experience with full contact fighting than Bruce Lee ever had. It would be a very, very short fight, that would end with Lee on the ground, either knocked out or unable/unwilling to continue. It would not even be a contest, or all that exciting to watch. And I say this as a pretty die hard and dedicated Bruce Lee fan too. As much as I love Bruce Lee, reality can't be ignored.

I've been a Bruce Lee fan all my life. I've also been a Mike Tyson fan since I first saw him in the 80s. I've also seen the legend of Bruce Lee's feats and abilities grow to ridiculous proportions. Yes he was a fantastic martial artist and he inspired countless people to learn martial arts including me. Yes he had fantastic abilties and his concepts of Jeet Kune Do are great. But that's completely different than going up against Mike Tyson. People watch the movies which are filmed to make Lee look almost godlike. But I'll never forget the disappointment i felt when I saw those old training films of Bruce Lee. I also box. In fact, Boxing was my first martial art. That heavy bag work of him punching is just shit. And no one can tell me otherwise. I still think he was great, but people need to separate truth from fantasy. Mike Tyson was a wrecking machine. He would win hands down.

@@inhometraineroakville1174 True... he changed alot of things and was a phenomenal specimen... but I think it's the fans that just get carried away with stuff which is the real problem and many have never fought etc.... people also seem to think that large fighters aren't going to be able to move just stand there and forget that bones etc will be denser.. Not to mention they will absorb what you throw at them and cut of the space quickly because of their size.. found that out the hard way many a time in the past sparring with the bigger fighters boxing and muay thai.. though they said I hit like a heavyweight for my size they just didn't fold and even checking or blocking was like getting hit by a car... even much smaller fighters whether muay thai.. mma and boxers would have been a bad match up for Lee

@theman0110 Yes I am well aware of that. I have practiced various martial arts including JKD and Wing Chun for 40 years. The heavy bag video was of him training in his backyard. He was a phenomenal martial artist, but the fact is he was about 130 to 140 lbs. Mike Tyson was 220 lbs and he was a wrecking machine. I guess it's possible Bruce Lee could have gotten him with a groin or knee kick or possibly a finger jab, etc. But we're talking about a guy who is a master at head movement and evasion as well. Bruce Lee himself said he didn't think he could win against Muhammad Ali.

Very Inaccurate though. Kungfu genius gives a much more accurate look ar Bruce's power and strength as does the bioneer. Sifu seems to be hater on anything positive on bruce lee or jkd. Joe Lewis stated lee hits like a hw and no one kicks harder or faster. And there's video of him stating that. Jackie Chan stated lee moved so fast you can't see his punch or kick. Izzo definitely needs to d9 more research. Tyson wisely decided not to try the mutai champ in his prime who is much smaller btw. Bruce lee got challenged and best hard-core mutai challengers in many street fights. Hmm. Food for thought World hw Champs don't come to Train with mediocre fighters guys. Sorry to tell yah. And Jim Kelly pretty much said Lee's was leagues above chuck and Joe lewis.

Obviously, some people incorrectly think he could beat anyone with no problem like he was a super-hero. When you come back to reality you got people like Joe Rogan and people on his show that act like he was nothing but a fraud that somehow was able to be influential but actually couldn't fight at all, which makes no sense to me. I tend to think he was a great fighter but there's no fights to prove it. I do think that everyone at the time knew he was really special. And since no one who knew he speaks the truth I see that as evidence of his abilities, but it doesn't make him Peter Parker.

As a VT practitioner, a Bruce Lee fan, and a Tyson fan, I have to give it to Mike. Bruce isn't going to pak da Mike, he's not going to lap da Mike, and he's not going to heun sa Mike. Lee's only hope is kicking Mike in the nuts or landing a lucky kick on Mike's chin with his heel. If Lee was 180 pounds and finished the system he may have a better chance. We're talking about Mike mother fucking Tyson here!!! Even at 30 he was a beast that would stop at nothing. He was unstoppable with rules, once you take them away, his ability to kill grows stronger. Mike would eat Lee's face off. If Bruce was alive in the 90's, he'd be friends with Mike, and they would train together. If Bruce was asked if he could beat Mike, I imagine the answer would sound like this... "Why would someone ask me if I could beat Tyson? How about you ask yourself if you could beat Tyson? Can you truly express yourself in the ring with the best boxer on the planet? Focus on yourself and your development as a martial artist, don't worry about fights that'll never happen, and have nothing to do with yourself." Then Bruce would go slam an 8 ball with Mike as they play with tigers. The End.

Somehow a boxer who was use to taking punches from 230+ lbs boxers is going to be worried about the punches from a 130lbs fighter. ( we see this in boxing all the time, fighters go up in weight divisions only to discover their power just isn't a match and it doesn't work out, when it does work is when a young boxer is still maturing physically ) This is not a movie. Bruce lee never had his metal tested. Iron Mike did. The one thing all top 10 heavyweights have in common is in the 20 + fights ( sometime less and sometimes more ) they have had in climbing into the top 10 is...their metal has been tested. There is no such a thing as a top 10 contender who can't take a punch, that aspect is uncovered early and ain't no way around it, they fall away on the way up. I love Bruce but be real, Mike was very fast and quick footed at 215-220lbs of muscle. Once he took Bruce's best and realized he was in no real danger, he would swiftly pursue and blast any opening.

In fairness to Bruce Lee he created his style of fighting to be fought as a no rules fighting style. Not to be fought as a sport. But everybody want to keep comparing him to people who fight as a sport. Even that scene in Fist Of Fury where he bites the Russian guy on the leg is something he thought you should be willing to do if you're about to be crippled or or killed. There's quite a few strikes in Bruce's style that would have be unlearned in order to use it as a sport.
