OVW didn't have any problem with the WWE when Jim Ross was in charge of talent relations, the problems began with John "If you don't got it, get it. If you don't get it, figure it out" Lauranitus.

To be fair, I think that was probably at least in part due to the fact that JR may have been more conciliatory towards Cornette/OVW than they WWE office would have preferred (which may have lead in part to JR's own issues with the office) Lauranitus may well have just been adopting more of the company line.

Also if you are removing quote "Negative Nuggets" then you are just getting rid of what made that Wrestler get over. At 6:45 yes because Cornette knew what a good match was. It's amazing that since Jims run in Ohio Valley Wrestling came to an end we don't see any stars that much today unfortunately. 7:59 yes that's what made wrestling gritty and edgy. It's way too polished and clean now. Wrestling shouldn't be like that!
@sabot4ge3 жыл бұрын
Jim didn't produce the stars...those guys already had the it factor that they needed to succeed..all they needed was the right gimmick to connect to the fans and the exposure. Jim didn't come up with cena's gimmick or batista's gimmick..they did that on their own. The protoype would have never got over, but once Cena became Cena and dropped that gimmick, he connected. Jim didn't have anything to do with that. Jim was good in terms of building up house show revenue and building an audience in the small towns they performed in, but as far as building stars, no..they built themselves. Jim was integral in giving them exposure because he was good at promoting shows and getting people to see these guys wrestler, thus giving them in-ring experience. He was awesome on the business end of things because he knew how to expand and operate without creating huge debts. Plus he had relationships with famous stars like Stone Cold who could lend a hand in helping to sell-out shows. Jim is better on the business end because he knows how to go from nothing to something, and he's humble enough to value a small town's fanbase because he knows success is gradual inch by inch

It's not necessarily that he left a bad impression. Look at his reputation. People can love and praise him all they want but he has a legendary temper and can be extremely difficult to work with. He hasn't lasted long in many promotions since then and has been hired and fired by just about everybody. I always say Cornette is like someone like Scott Hall or Jake Roberts without the drugs: he keeps getting brought back cause he has talent and everyone hopes for the best but you know sooner or later, he'll screw up badly or enough to the point where you have to cut him. @jasoncrane19284 жыл бұрын
I have never met Bruce or JC, but I think Bruce is towing a WWE line here and not giving us the entire truth, which is why people do not believe his answers in this podcast. 1. Jim Cornette created, and co owned OVW, so the promotion was his to do with what he wanted. Bruce is parroting the Laurenitis line that OVW was an extension of WWE, which is bulls##t. 2. OVW did business with the WWE, only because the WWE could not afford all the insurance and liability costs to run a developmental promotion ( which has changed with NXT, as they now have so much money they do not know what to do with it).3. If someone who had nothing to do with the business, came and continued, on numerous occasions to tell me how to run my business, then I would tell them to f#@k off, and mind their own business as well, such as using the type of ropes WWE used, which is okay for a tv show once a week, but when you are using them three times a day, everyday, can cause issues for the wrestlers. 4. The term a corporate employee, is just another term for kissing the bosses arse, and Jim had no need to do that at this time, so he did not. 5. The number of talent that went through this developmental promotion, and which then made so much money for the WWE, is so astronomical that it has to be the most successful developmental promotion this century, no matter what the son-in-law says. 6. I have a problem with Bruce's objectivity when discussing this issue. 7. While Jim Cornette is not always the best communicator, or always does the socially accepted thing, people still like him because he tells you what happened. His story on Santino Marella which is what got him relieved of his duties was a good story, and from the vision I saw Corny overreacted, as he himself has agreed to, but at least he owns his mistake, and to be honest his opinion on Santino is correct, he was a comedy act, one I liked, but still in the WWE, his wrestling was scheizenhaussen. 8. The standards became more corporate or PG, when the company listed on the stock exchange because when you list on the stock exchange you have to abide and do business by a set of standards and regulations, and if you do not you can be deregistered. 9. Bruce says that WWE valued the OVW development system. If this is true then why did they send Paul Heyman down to oversee things when Cornette left, as he wanted to stay up north, and why did the WWE give a guarantee for two years so the OVW management signed contracts and leases, only for WWE to change their mind six months later and leave them in the lurch, having to fulfil contracts.
