I love that you dress differently....distinctly. It is a mark of your unworldliness and maturity. Thank you for being examples of true believers.....

These days it seems that in the West women have a right to dress any way they want except modestly and plainly.

Some of those outfits look pretty fashionable. Can't say I'm a fan of the handkerchief though. Was a pleasure hearing everyone be so well spoken about their thoughts on the topic.

I see headcovering as a crown for a daughter of the King of the Universe, and long dresses and skirts as garments of the King. Modesty is so beautiful. Personally headcovering and modesty as a lifestyle is something I am for in a lady if I were to ever get married.

QUESTION: Please tell, are you allowed a pet dog ? And also , the land around your buildings looks mown. Is this not unproductive ? Lawns are an ostentatious celebration of property..are they not ? Do you use petrol driven mowers ?
@Bruderhof4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can have a dog. Yes the lawns are mowed. We tried not mowing for a season and it looked hideous.

Bruderhof thanks for your reply...we mow selectively and use the grass as a crop. This means we can allow beds of wildflower to develop naturally and this encourages pollinators which are threatened locally by industrial farming practices. We mow using scythes which also means we can sculpt the meadow for aesthetic effect.

My first few visits to WoodCrest I noticed the difference in clothing but subsequent visits didn’t even notice the difference anymore! (Must be RM’s fault” :-)

well all humans have 2 legs , its not like women have one big leg and so cant wear trousers, they just arent allowed to. For me that is the spoiler . If a male can be modest in trousers, then so can a woman be.

Why don’t the men cover their hair and wear skirts?

For me the dress is a real stumbling block . To dress modestly is fantastic but come on . I would feel humiliation at having to dress like that , which is very different from being humbled . I do not ware dresses in my normal life because I dont like them , why would it make any difference to not wear one ? I can dress just as modestly in tshirts and jogging pants . The dress is a stumbling block . Surly it's time for a revision of something that would cause people not go forward in their interest for community? I can see the outline of the mens bottoms in the trousers they wear . Maybe they should wear the dresses ?I'm Very disappointed with the dress aspect which is a real shame because I llove Jesus , I love your ethos and I so want to live for christ . I dont think i need to wear a dress and a head scarf to do this effectively

I agree. I like to wear dresses but not the style they wear. I would feel embarrassed in those clothing. You can dress modestly without feeling embarrassed. There are so many different clothes that are modest so I feel like people should be allowed to wear what makes them comfortable. I like a lot about the bruderhof but it’s important to me to be able to wear clothes I feel comfortable in.

Temperance, especially in how one dresses, used to be a renowned virtue. Nowadays people dress to excess in order to impress about 'success'. Call it 'success signaling'. If you're the queen of England or the first lady, it kinda goes with the territory. Call it 'status signalling'. Dressing plainly and wearing head scarves and bonnets definitely sends a message about one's religious virtues...therefore it's 'virtue signalling'...but it says more about a person's unassuming character as well. A temperent character abstains from excesses, preferring modesty, chastity, moderation, etc...which are things that please God instead of man. So who do want to impress with your dress? Mankind with your quantity of wealth and social status? Or God with the quality of your character? Personally I just don't want to catch cold...but most of my clothes are birthday or Christmas gifts from family and friends. I wear what those closest to me think I should...but nothing that purposely sends specific messages. I think God's okay with that. The head scarves and bonnets and unassuming apparel of the Bruderhof women seem to be of a traditional nature dictated by the community...which is what others think is appropriate for all in obedience to God's Biblical directives. It would seem that obedience to God never goes out of fashion. Call it 'obedience signalling'...or 'thankfulness signalling'...to both mankind and God. I think God's okay with that.
