My bones ache, just looking at the wooden chairs and seeing nothing else in their apartment besides a cold floor with a small rug or two. I am low income and live in public housing. However, I do have a used comfy Lay-Z-Boy rocking chair and low profile carpet in my living room I got from a remnant store. I dont require much at all and certainly not "NEW"! But I dont think Jesus would mind, if some things were padded! Its good to know that the Bruderhof community is not against families having some sort of pet!

Have you 'seen' that "cold" floor on your own skin? How many kids around the World have so many toys like in this family? What you think about Jesus is also wrong: read what He said about birds having nests and foxes having lairs, yet the Son of Man (i.e. Himself) had nowhere to lay His head... I do not think Jesus ever needed nor required anything 'comfy' like you do. And btw. the furniture of this family looks very nice and healthy.

Brudehof seem very similar to Amish (yet obvious differences). To Brudehof typically have lots of kids like Amish do?

I'd be interested in knowing how these communities protect their children against sexual predators? As we all know these predators look for children who are compliant and obedient as they are the easiest targets.

I had a hamster and it died. But I did learn I can't take care of a pet. My marriage ended in divorce. But I learned I like being single better. I have German heritage. On my mom's side. And we were LDS (Mormons), and we still got a civil divorce.

Dear Feminist Amy, What you consider 'plain' diskriminative etc. by Bruderhof women may be comfortable, practical and nice for others. If you wear jeans it's your choice but please do not suggest such a thing to Bible believing Christian women ok? Jeans were historically a 'plain' practical working trousers for men. I do not share your opinion at all and I am not from Bruderhof or any affiliates.

Bruderhof community reminds me of the mennonites. Except your community seems less restrictive and friendly towards outsiders. Mennonites in our area would come into the city to shop, however they seem to avoid any non-business interaction with us. Kinda standoffish.

It's actually a part of the early Christian Church to wear head coverings. It's a modesty thing. It's also a thing in the Catholic Church as well, but only during Mass
