They need to release a live recording on this on vinyl! This is my favorite lesser-known Rush song.

This is one song I wish they had brought back to play live in the 2000's.

Could not agree more. Such an underrated song.

Especially if they used some different instruments, I'm not a fan of the Wal bass sound. I'm glad Geddy started to use Fenders in the 90's and 2000's

You are so right, one of Neil's best messages.

@@Lance37a Agreed. I wasn't a fan of the Wal either. Nor Alex's single coil pickup guitars he used during this era (and in this video). They sound great when playing a clean tone (the beginning of Time Stand Still!!!), but way too thin when gain is needed.

@@Lance37a i personally love the Wal. I think the Rick served its purpose Rush-MP and the fender jazz helped the early 80s with the low end. But the stein during GUP and the wal from PW-RTB really helped with their 80s sound. It compliments the heavy synth presence in those albums. Now playing songs from early albums on the Wal is not ideal because they need that rick tone, but for these 80s albums, it works so well. I wish i could have seen them live during each of their tours, they are master musicians and adapted well to the changes of each decade!

This was a good point in Geddy’s vocals. Not as shrill as when first starting out, his phrasing was much better and clearer. He knew where to hang back a bit and when to turn it up. His knowledge of how the crowd reacts was self taught over the years. These guys really did serve a difficult and long apprenticeship to become the top quality a 3 person band could.

I agree, I personally think the best vocal performances of Geddy are on Power Windows and Hold Your Fire

@@jdb44my favorite rush records with roll the bones being the other one there old stuff is ok like limelight etc. but I personally liked when they added synths and stuff and boy Alex guitar tone from 1985-1993 was majestic those tc electronic 2290 delays are so good ❤

And absolutely strained from 2000 on. Trying to sing like he could during the 80's and 90's he couldn't do anymore.

It sounds exactly the same as the record, just a hundred times more vibrant. Ged, Alex and the Prof were unbeatable live.

Rush was so great at taking songs that were in the middle of the album and making them epic live. You can really feel the joy on stage. This version is so much better than the one on HYF.

So right…

Come on. The HYF version is far more clearer and you can hear the choir.
@leephelps13818 ай бұрын
@@haloeffect44 IMO, when you have a live performance, you need to have more of what is “real”. Processed vocal choirs have their place and time. I just feel like people what to hear what they can see. This performance was more guitar and drums driven in terms of mix. You can see all of these things. An “imaginary” choir track would almost seem cheesy. I like the HYF version just fine. I just felt like they did a great job with the mix/arrangement on SOH.

In his recent bio Geddy said that Neil hated doing music videos and had strict rules. First, he had to be shown with his drums. Second he had to be playing them in the video. Third, he had to really be playing them, not miming it, with the music live. This can be seen in their early videos such as Subdivisions and Countdown and Time Stand Still when the band is mostly shown playing the song. In later years Neil did consent to make short funny vidoes to be played during concerts, but never for full TV video shows.

One of my favourite songs but it's such a shame Ged decided to change the outro vocals. Wether it was voice preservation or something else I don't know but I so wish we'd had that album outro instead this version would be perfect
@oreally86052 жыл бұрын
Geddy's vocals have been strained since 2000. But it doesn't matter now. No more Rush.
