Awesome comment. The comments sections of KZbin are the only way I can share my hidden love for shit like this. My metal head and hip hop head friends would all laugh at me for it. Some of my others would tell me to eat shit and that Eno was the only Brian that mattered. The 80’s is full of gems like this. Bête Noire has a bunch of stuff like this on it. Jerry Harrison of the Talking Head’s released Casual Gods right around the same time. Pure excellence.

@Kaptan_GezerАй бұрын
This song's lyrics portray a story of transactional and superficial relationships, where love and intimacy are commodified and lack genuine emotional depth. Here’s a breakdown of the themes in the lyrics: Transactional Nature of Love: "Ten cents a dance / It's the only price to pay" Suggests that love or affection is treated like a cheap commodity, something bought and sold without deeper connection. "Why give 'em more / When it's only love for sale?" Highlights cynicism about romantic relationships being driven by materialism rather than authentic feelings. Timelessness and Cycles: "Adam and Eve / It's the oldest game in town" References the biblical story, implying that the dynamics of temptation, exchange, and betrayal in relationships have been around since the beginning of humanity. Superficiality and Public Persona: "One public face / In a private limousine" Contrasts the public image with a private, possibly more vulnerable or hidden self. "Flash photograph / It's the only light you see" Suggests a life illuminated by fleeting, artificial moments, like fame or media attention, rather than genuine emotion or fulfillment. Secrets and Deception: "No secret life / There's no secret you can steal" Implies that everything about the person is already exposed or commodified, leaving no mystery or personal boundaries. Cynical Perspective on Love and Power: "Money talks it never lies" Reflects a belief that financial transactions are more reliable than emotional truths. "Give and take eye for an eye" Suggests a tit-for-tat dynamic in relationships, emphasizing retribution and balance over generosity or trust. Passion and Desire: "Fever the heat of the night / Dreamer stealer of sighs" Romanticizes the intensity and fleeting nature of physical attraction and desire. Ambiguity of Communication: "Your lips are moving / But I will never know / What they mean" Expresses a disconnect or lack of understanding between partners, where words are spoken but true feelings or intentions remain unclear.
