Nice that you go the extra mile and look also at heat exchanger.

Good call, typical of Carrier/Bryant. Be glad that he opted for new furnace, as the heat exchanger comes in pieces, not fun getting the cells together. Thanks for posting.

I found this video helpful. I do have a question. I clean my condensate trap, and then it works for about a day. After about a day it does the same thing. I clean it again, and good for a day or so. Everytime I unhook the hoses from the trap there is water standing in the pvc. Should that be? Why would it work for a day then stop? Any help is beyond appreciated!!

Another nice video. Wondering if your dealer has had a shortage of new furnaces, parts, etc from production shortages due to Covid and high demand from consumers stuck at home? Keep reading that's a problem in industry these days. Thanks

Installers gotta slope that furnace cabinet to the front so it has a chance to drain better. Or else it just sits and calcifies and plugs and eventually rusts out and fails
@Jon-hx7pe3 жыл бұрын
i'm betting neglecting the trap contributes to the failures -> corrosive water can't drain, builds up and kills the lining.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
more like, what lining and they condense holding corrosive water and moisture coating inside regardless.

The lesson is that you shouldn’t buy Carrier/Bryant high efficiency furnaces. The heat exchangers are crap. Judging from the videos on KZbin, I can’t say that I like any high efficiency furnace. The heat exchanger fails, the cheap plastic collector box cover cracks/leaks, or the furnace was not installed correctly (see Trane videos) due to inadequate training of the installers.
@Falcon-eh8tq3 жыл бұрын
The higher the AFUE the more condensation and the higher these 90+% furnaces are pushed the more likely condensation will occur early, ie in the secondary heat exchanger, underfiring and producing more condensate than normal, or running in a very cold room and fighting it's environment, also making more condensate. Many factors and poor install practice, lack of maintenance all compound to create these issues with high efficiency furnaces of any brand. Although i come across many, many more carrier and bryant furnaces with plugged heat exchangers than other makes.
@AmericanFarmerHVAC20243 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I hate all "efficient" furnaces. You pay extra for something that lasts 10 years at best. Nothing wrong with an 80%er, they just work.
@Falcon-eh8tq3 жыл бұрын
@@homeserve9292 everyday really, as part of service and installations I carry a torpedo level and a 4 footer. The manufacturers installation instructions are pretty clear about dealing with condensate. Some Napoleon 9600 9700 series units claim to produce 4.5 lb of water per hour in correct operation, better design the drain correctly.
@Jon-hx7pe3 жыл бұрын
the new carriers are made with stainless and don't have this problem. condensing furnaces are fine when installed properly and the trap is checked/clean. in a cold climate, it's foolish to throw 20% of the heat away. they have the same electrical/mechanical components at the equivelent 80%'er - just secondary and condensate handling components. they last the same if properly installed and maintained.
@AmericanFarmerHVAC20243 жыл бұрын
Who in the fuck would put the drain trap on the inside if it drains on the left side anyway. And I'm sure the secondary is sooting up and rusting away, why the condensate trap is plugged. Man for a bunch of junk. I can't believe they made these things from 94 to 2012? And didn't do a fucking thing to fix them.
