BSA 350 cc Model L engine circa 1930 strip & rebuild 9 crankcase sump plate stud hole repair method?

Here, I discuss how I managed to remove two very stubborn sheared off studs and how I hope to repair a damaged threaded stud hole in the crankcase in order to have a full set of working sump plate fastners, for probably the first time in a long time.

BSA sump plates and studs; my first task as a new BSA mechanic was to do a very similar repair on an A65. The theme had continued.

80 something years old! Is it possible to fix the casting around that stud hole? I've seen repairs on cases before. Some not pretty but effective.

Can't you build it up with metal putty...sets hard and drill and tap that...or a blob of alloy weld ????
