I have a 1999 BMW F650 Funduro which has I believe more or less the same Rotax engine as your Goldstar. The only difference would be that it has twin carbs. I've Owned it 11 years now and it hasn't missed a beat. Coming up to 175,000 miles now.

Great choice, although I am biased. I fell in love with the Shadow Black edition and at launch it was the same price as the Highland Green. A mate of mine restored a 350 Goldie many years ago, and I was smitten with it and the whole Gold Star story. So when I heard about this 650 thumper with that iconic badge on the tank I had to have one. I've got the TEC baffle in mine which really improves the exhaust sound without making it unsociable. The nit-pickers and BSA puritans can go swivel for all I care. It's a fantastic bit of kit and brings a smile to my face whenever I open the garage door and take it for a spin. Enjoy!

Brilliant reply. I bought two! (Legacys) One for me and one for my brother. They're fantastic bikes. I've got three other older BSAs and I'm a member of the BSA owners club. Now ... what would BSA be making now if the management hadn't lined their pockets and caused the demise? A water cooled, ABS, USB, modern bike! That's what. "So rejoice in that", lol 🇬🇧

Best reason for buying a bike is indeed the way that it makes you feel. That's the reason I swapped a 2014 Honda CTX700 for my 2005 Moto Guzzi Breva 750; the Guzzi puts a smile on my dial. If the BSA ever gets released onto the Australian market, I'll definitely be taking a test ride on one, however.

Morning Dave, good early observations this morning. You hit it on the head, you can watch reviews of any particular bike and all the you tube reviewers give out the same boring old statistics. You could just swap the reviewers name and use the same videos. It’s all about the feel and what it does for you personally. It’s what makes us human and we should celebrate being individual. How boring a world if we all liked the same things and looked the same. Enjoy the new toy and keep smiling. I guessed the wrong bike but got the colour correct 😊😊

That’s what it’s all about in the real world today- low down and midrange. Can you fit a centre stand. An essential item on a chain driven bike in my opinion. My CB500F didn’t come with one but the lugs were there so I had one fitted. Much easier to use than a paddock stand. Good to see the BSAs out and about. I don’t know if they’re coming to Australia 🇦🇺 or if they’re already here?

I’m super tempted by one of these Dave. Good choice. My local dealer in Maidstone are offering them at about £4500 plus OTR which is amazing value. It’s got the mark 1 radiator style, later bikes have a different grill and side panel. Nothing to worry about, same as mine and it’s a keeper. BSA have built a real class disrupter, that’s why it was a slow burn to start, but it’s gaining real traction now.

Hello Dave, I went for the Legacy Edition with all the bling, I have owned my 2011 H-D XL883N 'Iron' from new, over the years I have blacked it out, so the blingy BSA Gold Star 650 makes a refreshing change from the blackness of the Iron 883. I have recently purchased a 2009 H-D XR1200 in black, it has twice the power of the BSA, so it makes for an exciting ride and unlike many Harley's the XR1200 handles and brakes wery well indeed. Enjoy your Gold Star 650, I saw one in highland green yesterday in the car park of the Motorcycle Mechanics Show at the Staffordshire Showground, it looked very nice.

It's down to the one you own. In mass production no two are the same. It's just the way things are. I'm supposed to be a clockmaker. It's the same from Swiss sewing machines to clocks made in England. My 25 year old Harley has unique issues. Some issues are common to every example of a specific model. The speedo on my premium Harley gets condensation inside just like every other Harley since forever.

@brunothepug88072 ай бұрын
You have touched a nerve so many reviewers miss! Does the bike talk to you? The full synergy of man and machine is realized only when the motorcycle talks to your heart and soul. I'm convinced of this and why so many people keep trading bikes so often. After father and husband duties were covered and I could return to riding, i went straight down to the Harley Davison dealer. To my sad surprise, I didn't feel right on any of the models I could afford and met my physical needs for weight kept down due to injury disability. Turned out, they also carried Triumph. When I sat on one, it was much lighter and with the low center of gravity that I needed. But I had my heart set on a cruiser. The salesman said we have something down in storage. Turned out to be a Triumph America new but a model year old. 2016 was it's last year and it was late 2017. They were going to put on eBay auction just to get rid of it. One ride and I was in love. Light, nimble and felt like it was built for me. Black and chrome all over with build quality easily matching HD. She is still in my garage. I get all kinds of looks and compliments on her. Rare and rarely scene, I enjoy that compared to HD which are everywhere here in the States. Accessories have been a treasure hunt and very hard to get. That and chain drive are my only complaints. My America will be in my garage as long as I am able to ride her but it I am forced to downsize, I hope the BSA is available. 8 years and not a single repair.

Now at 5 grand it's a really good buy but i paid 6800 for mine and have to say i feel cheated as did my original distributor here in West Lancashire who stopped selling them back in January after being messed around by BSA. The original Gold Star was either a 350cc (DBD32) or 500cc (DBD34). If it was a 650cc, then it might have been the Rocket Gold Star - Rocket twin engine in a Gold Star frame. A mate of mine had the DBD34 - it would pull 70 Mph in 1st gear with the close ratio box, but was a bugger to ride in traffic. 🙂
@rickmancr2 ай бұрын
To be 100% accurate, there were ZB32/34 and BB32/34 Goldies with the small fin engines, then CB32/34 and DB32/34 big fin models, and finally, the DBD34. Of course, not all were in Clubman racer trim with the big carburettor, close-ratio RRT2 gearbox, high compression, and race cams. You could order a Gold Star in virtually any specification you wanted, including trials, scrambles (motocross), and touring, with the appropriate cylinder head, piston, camshafts, gearbox, wheels, brakes, tank, seat, handlebars, and electrics. [/pedant] 😊

I think the BSA Gold Star is a gorgeous bike, the original was beautiful and this new one is beautiful too, but less oil leaky and troublesome... The thing about the USB sockets causing people to complain... These same people would complain if it wasn't there... Now, BSA could have disguised it as a clutch reservoir, but the Gold Star always had a cable clutch. They could have hidden it away somewhere, and they'd complain it was inconvenient... It would alsi, probably have cost more (not a huge amount), to build it into somewhere inconvenient. Worst thing about my wee CBR is the fact there's nowhere on the handlebars to fit a USB socket. It doesn't really bother me, but my wife uses the bike too, and she wants to charge her phone, as she wants to use it as a satnav... I keep mine in my pocket, in case i need it, but on the bike, i prefer the peace of it not being right in front of me. If that makes sense.

I would love to have one of those thumpers BSA 650. Not sure if we even have a dealership in all of Texas...never seen one. Love the way they sound stock. So, when you open the garage door...how do you decide which bike to ride each day? Sometimes its hard for me to chose and i have two bikes Transalp and T120😂not a bad problem to have mate

Check out the Bridgestone AX41 tires , I consider them 50/50 tires , you might not. Love your bike choice.

How about a blog on why you got rid of the Super Meteor?

You weren't nervous buying it,considering all the negative publicity?.Anyone trying to sell them are getting cut to the bone and potentially losing 2/3 value,at least,within the first year.

I’m not selling it

Morning Dave, good review as always,.. did you consider any other colour like the Black Shadow ( all black one) ? I very nearly bought one. The prices are coming down definitely.

Yes but black shadow £1000 more…I’m a Yorkshireman 😂
