Haha, great vid. I was born & bred in Denaby Main & am still proud of that fact even though haven’t lived in the village for nearly 40 years. It was a great place to grow up in through the 60’s & 70’s. Although the major redevelopment of the village from the late 60’s to the early 80’s, completely changed the character of the place. Add in the strike & subsequent closure of Cadeby Main, totally different place these days.

Thanks glad you enjoyed it, hope it brought back some good memories for you. I think most of the old pit villages have now changed so much as they've had to adapt to new industries and the ever increasing need for housing estates. I'm afraid that's the way things are going now but it's good to have our memories. Cheers.

I still pass through it most Sundays, en route to the Crown at Barnburgh for Sunday lunch. I no longer have any direct family live there anymore & just a couple , including my mum living in Conisbrough. I still live in another former Doncaster area pit village. I think I’m correct in saying it has a unique feature remaining from the mining past in the area. Lol.m

Only just watched your first film on Goldie, where you pass & discuss the headgear of Hatfield Main. Have you been by it recently & seen the new shed built next to it? You can see it for miles!

@@martinowlYes, I live nearby so pass it regularly, another modern monstrosity. Locals are saying it interferes with their TV signal, don't know about that. It's certainly Changed the skyline, the pit head gear was all you saw as you came along the new link road, now all you can see is that building.

Another most enjoyable, fact filled production, thank you. If I remember correctly, sprotborough also had a quarry which used the nearby canal for transportation of the granite found there. The Cadeby pit disaster was a tragic occurrence, very moving to hear that so many rescuers also lost their lives. I have Douglas Bader’s autograph (obtained by my Father), and by all accounts, he was a very “demanding” man as quoted by his many batmen. Interesting to hear of his air gun pranks, I can’t help wondering whereabouts the lady destined for the bath was hit ! Thank you again for such an interesting “ramble”, your time spent preparing and travelling the route, is very much appreciated. Look forward to the next one. Best wishes.

Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoy the videos. There were a couple of quarries close to Sprotbrough. I believe Levitt Hagg, now abandoned, is where they loaded the barges. There'sso much history and interesting facts about, it's often difficult to decide just what to include. Yes, seems Douglas Bader was a difficult man to get on with. Watch out for more videos to come. Cheers.

Interesting to see this as I went through a lot of these places on a cycle ride recently - took in Denaby, Conisbrough, Cadeby, Sprotborough & Doncaster before heading home via Bentley, Brodsworth and down to the Dearne Valley and home to Sheffield! I recognise the junction at 9:05 though I think I approached it the opposite way... I also have a bike with an engine (1985 Silverwing) so may let that take the strain next time and go a bit further afield!

@@old-n-Goldie each to their own :-) I'm still feeling my way with the Silverwing, I'm pretty inexperienced on motorbikes but have done a couple of rides through the Peaks. The cycle ride was 47 miles I think, just exploring ways to go Sheffield-Doncaster without using main roads!

I admire people who cycle good distances and used to enjoy a ride round the countryside myself. Unfortunately, my ageing body is no longer up to it so the push bike hasn't been out the shed for years. I'm sure you'll get to love the Silverwing. Cheers.

Interesting to hear the local mining history, I worked in S Yorks coal mines & did my u/g training at Manvers/Wath. A ride out to Silkstone is worthwhile & it's interesting to learn the history of the Husker pit disaster where 32 children were killed underground. Might be worth a video & the tragedy is brought to life in the book 'Victoria's children of the dark.'

@@old-n-Goldie at Silkstone there's a huge memorial in the churchyard with the names & ages of the children killed. In the woods near the entrance to the old drift there's a stone memorial. I've always thought it should be made into a movie. Sorry I did a typo it's Huskar.

@@old-n-Goldie when I visited the woods, even now people leave flowers & teddy bears etc it's emotional to see. Reading the names of brothers as young as 7 yrs old on the memorial put a lump in my throat.

The Earth Centre sounded like a terrible idea from the start. It's insulting when industrial communities are given heritage museums or themed attractions instead of employment. Apart from that grumble, a most enjoyable tour.

I went to some of the public meetings prior to the acquisition of the site. I disagree, the ideas & plans put forward for the Earth Centre at these meetings was forward thinking & unseen in the UK. It could & should have been much better when opened. It certainly wasn’t value for money as an attraction when visited & so numbers of paying public never reached the hoped for target. I believe it is open & being used by an educational instution.

Toyed briefly with the idea of getting one of these until I realised that it didn't come with a mainstand, nor was there any chance of fitting one. Bye bye BSA!
@old-n-Goldie

Seems to be a common practice now, not fitting a centre stand. More new bikes appearing without them all the time. Not an insurmountable problem, more an inconvenience. Check out my 2000 mile retrospective video. Cheers.

@@old-n-Goldie Hi flhelectraglide. Kind of disagree with you if I may. When these bikes first came out, I took an (albeit quick) look underneath one to see what lugs, holes or other brackets might be pressed into service for use in incorporating a main stand. Nothing jumped out at me as being immediately obvious. If you've got any realistic propositions, I'd be happy to be advised.

Can't help with a centre stand actually fitted to the bike, may not even be possible. When I say I don't consider it an insurmountable problem, I mean there are other alternatives. I manage perfectly well with a paddock stand. I currently own four bikes and none of them have a centre stand. At the end of the day though it's down to what you want and feel happy with. Cheers.
