I got a BSA Mercury for my Xmas in 1977 .......... It was the Meteor, Mercury or Airsporter in those days that most of my shooting pals had. Great memories. That Evo looks like a very accurate little gun.

If you check. the top plastic cap has been on every meteor since the late 1950s if it didn’t have that cap , it wouldn’t be a meteor. I own and shoot all the meteors. The mk7 and evo are very accurate guns. But you’d be surprised how accurate mk2’s and mk3’s are too. We took 6 different meteors to the range earlier this week and I was impressed with all of them. Enjoyed the blog. Cheers

I have a couple of BSA’s in my cabinet one the Lightening se and the supersport both in 22 and for the money I believe you really can’t go wrong both perform really well and have plenty of stopping power and both have enabled me to bring home a rabbit for the pot. Yes I have more expensive rifles including the Weihrauch hw 100 kt and the new Air Arms s510 tactical but there’s nothing like going back to your roots and taking out a springer and just appreciate just how much fun can be had and how effective they can be.

Hi Rich, Thanks for a great review. That looks like a great air rifle and if I had the chance to own one of those as a youngster, and I'd have loved to, and you'd have had to peel me off the ceiling! The stock and blueing look fabulous. Having listened to some of the air rifle tuners on here, its not always at 11.9, a sub 12ftlb air rifle functions at its best. Many say around 10.5 ftlb is good, which is what this BSA Meteor is doing. I'd have loved that air rifle back in the day. My late father left me a BSA Meteor, which he had serviced himself. As a youngster, I wasn't allowed to do anything like that, have tools or airguns either. In the eighties, I suffered the rule, being seen and not heard... Just to prove a point, last year I made a project out of that air rifle and its buzz/twang. One thing that also inspired me, was that not many people would do what I was going to do. I took the rifle apart, which was all nicely lubed from my father. I made a top hat from delrin bar. I sleeved the spring inside the piston and the spring guide, to take out all the play and loosness. I replaced the piston and breech seals, properly lubed with the rellevent greases and re- assembled. I'm no air rifle tuner. However, the air rifle shot great, and much improved. The buzz/twang had gone, more of a zip noise, and there was less recoil. I was super pleased with, infact and showed to myself, how someone with little knowledge of air rifle tuning, can make a difference. It was so pleasing to realise the improvements in the air rifle. I think at that time, the BSA Meteor's were shooting at around 8ftlb, the Mark5. Best wishes, Ian.

My first purchase and it’s only limitation in an urban environment is like all spring guns is noise. A suppressor isn’t going to help that action. But it is exactly as you describe and very sturdy. Certainly the combination of two necessary things on your review, the accuracy and your marksmanship (one is no good without the other) demonstrates this is a useful tool. You certainly seemed to be enjoying shooting it and I enjoyed watching. Thank you.

A great review of a very good rifle, far better looking then that plastic lump on the end of the barrel.this looks like I remember as it was and they have done a good job, had a go with one and there is very little different between it and the supersport but the price, the pellets were letting it down they should all go through the bull 🐂 but it can be you but not that many pellets it's the pellets try a few brands. And was fairly quiet to there worth every penny even my self a HW fan could see me with one out in the fields good one

Hi. I think that when it comes to break barrel springers, Weihrauch has the market pretty much sewn up. Underlevers too apart from the two Air Arms rifles. BSA break barrels are great value for money and they look fabulous, but they are priced much less than most Weihrauchs and I'd have to say they perform at a lower level too. That's not to say BSA springers aren't good, just that they aren't as good (or expensive) as Weihrauchs.
@Beesa10
@Beesa10 Жыл бұрын
@@airgunextra I'm a big fan of HW springers and I agree, as far as break barrels go Weihrauch seem to be in a league of their own. I like to buy British too, have fond memories of learning to shoot with an Airsporter and will be happy to buy a quality springer made in the UK. I do wish the 'iron' sights on the Super were made of metal not plastic, a plus for me is the manual safety which I prefer over the auto setting type.

Looking for a simple break barrel rifle to get back into the hobby after a 35 year hiatus and considering this and the Gamo Whisper Sting. They look very similar to be honest but wondering if one would be better for my teenage boys to use as well. Cheers. Michael
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Yes, the Meteor Evo is still going well. I did have to invest in an arrester block because I found the scope was creeping back under recoil and pushing up the plastic block cap. Not a biggie though and with the arrester block in place all sorted. If anything its more accurate and consistent now its had a few pellets through it. The Meteor Evo is probably the better rifle in my opinion, but a lot of that is down to the way it looks (that stock!). The Whisper Sting is a good rifle too and probably more resilient in the hands of teenagers!

Hi Jeff. No, you don;t have to have a scope and the open sights are very good. If you do decide on a scope though my advice would be to get one with variable parallax (usually designated with 'AO' or 'SF' on the scope) as this will allow you to focus on targets more easily. Good luck.
