I've owned a r12 for a couple of weeks, but it's in .22 I've found Hades pellets are very good through it. The best pellets through my Walther rm8 in .177, are JSB exact heavy which weigh in at 10.34g they group very well. I enjoyed your video. And I also think the r12 is a great rifle.

I loved the looks of the R12. I bought an R10 and found the first shot of each magazine dropped 3 inches. It went back after one week. Being taken in by the hype of the R12, I bought one. 20 different pellets later and shotgun like targets, I took the gun back to the dealer. He tested it and concluded that the barrel was faulty. Not good for a £1200 gun. In fact really disappointing. It has now gone back to BSA and replaced with a new Daystate Huntsman Revere Safari Edition. Different class with spot on accuracy no matter which pellet manufacturer. Hope you are luckier than I was with BSA, but that is me finished with any of their rifles.

My R10 was exactly the same the only pellets I can fire are bisley magnums they make a ragid hole, any other types and brands which I've tried literally 20 different brands and types it's literally like a shooting a shot gun at the target Personally I think its crap for the price I paid new. Would I buy another BSA never. Probably should have taken it back and got my money back. Being I can't use anything else, If they stop making bisley magnums I'm stuffed. Ps spoke to the gun shop I bought it from about another make of rifle I liked the look of, think I'll stick with what I've got they have had loads of trouble with other brands actually stopping selling them and returned several for credit two many problems and unreliable. I Won't say what brand but its a well known one at the £750 price range. I think that's bad £750 and you're buying basically rubbish. But on the plus side the shop I bought my R10 from saying stick with what you got if it's shooting accurately and being reliable which it is with Bisley pellets. Is good honest advice.

I bought 2 R10se both shot inconsistent , good grouping then all over the place then grouped, then all over the place 🙄 one developed a slow leak ,both had magazine jams, particularly when shooting up at a angle at high birds. Lost all confidence in BSA and lost a lot of money, sold both and bought Daystate Huntsman’s 177 and 22 owned both now for 2yr with no issues. Good luck to anyone who wants to take a chance and buy a BSA r12 , hope BSA have sorted out the issues with their products.

Hi Chris. Thought you might be interested in a review I posted on AAR on line. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but,.... V intersted in your review of the absolutely gorgeous BSA R12 with that adjustable stcck and I do like that black contrasting cheek piece. It was just the rifle I was looking for, or so I thought! I immediately went to my local dealer, chopped in my lovely R10th and dug deep for the balance. £1000 is usually my ceiling for high end rifles, with the exception of the Griffin which my wife bought for a retirement present, I loved the look of this beautiful gun. Little did I know of the heartache to come. Within 3 shots from my first magazine the gun jammed. I cleared the jam carefully but it continued to jam. Back to the dealer! Apparently the problem was put down to a rogue magazine which somehow seemed to jam, mangle the pellets and dump them into the block thus jamming the side lever. After clearing the block and replacing damaged magazine, back to the club range. Amid the jealous looks from my fellow shooters and the smug looks from me, guess what!! it bloody well did it again. Tried different pellets and took your advice of a positive action on the side lever but to no avail. With a certain amount of suppressed annoyance I drove the 20 miles back to my local gun shop, after first familiarising myself with my consumer rights. Thankfully totally unnecessary, the shop staff were symapathetic and offered me a refund but what I really wanted was another air rifle. Not enamoured by fx and weihrach pcp's (although I love my 97kt,) the stock in the shop was quite low. Eventually I was persuaded against my better judgement to settle on the Wolverine R laminate forking out extra cash. I am blown away by this beauty. I have since researched on line and discovered the problem is common in the CLX models. Moral of the story, do your research and search for reviews pointing out problems as well as good points with the preferred gun

Seems to be an issue with the .177 as I’ve seen a few videos about this issue. Apparently BSA are aware and are in talks with the magazine supplier to sort it out.

Hi Chris, I really enjoyed your video on the BSA R12 and like how you talk well of the rifle and BSA. I purchased the Carbine version and just absolutely adore it. It took a little getting used to, though not much. A bit like changing your car. Overall, I think it looks super. I like the traditional stock and the cocking lever. I also like where the safety button is located, the yellow mark on the magazine to notify the shooter of empty, and the indication on the opposite side of the magazine, telling the shooter the rifle is live, loaded and ready to shoot. For pellets, I like JSB Heavies. My gun shop, Cheshire Gun Room, suggested I try them and wasn't keen at first. As a relatively inexperienced shooter, I anticipated more holdover and hold under with a heavier pellet than what I was used to. I persevered and use the Heavies all the time now and really like them. I use .177 10.65 grain. I think they are a more humane hunting pellet with obvious advantages over 8.44 grain. I zero at 40yrds, and my R12 apart from fliers puts most of the pellets within the five pence piece, which is very satisfying. So, personally, I like the JSB Heavies. They're accurate and powerful, and they work for me and do what I want them to do. Just a little bit of input into what works for me. I wish you all the very best with your channel and future videos. Best wishes, always nice to see you, my friend. (4.52's)

Hey Chris. Another great review!! What a quality gun- I'd go for the super carbine version if i was purchasing one. 👍 Bit of a random technical observation - I was watching your trigger finger when you shoot and I noticed your finger quickly releases after depressing the trigger. I have been told that if you keep your finger depressed for 2 seconds after shooting you'll 'follow through' a little better on your target and hopefully improve accuracy - anyway, it helped me! Go well mate. keep shooting and keep having fun! ATB Rich.

I’m new to the sport but in my mind the JSB Exact are made from too soft a lead alloy, bought my first tin of them and the number of pellets with pinched or distorted skirts was unacceptably high, this must explain the number of fliers. I’ve got a 177 Gammo but after testing a few pellets the BSA barrel definitely prefers H&N (which make BSA) pellets either FT or Barracuda I get nice tight groups but the JSBs are all over the place at 25 yards

Ain't watched the vid yet , but one thing to look out for on yer R12 , IF you remove the moderator to get access to the barrel ( ESPECIALLY the initial clean prior to anything being shot ) there's a " boss " that screws onto the UNF thread , this has a rubber 0 ring on , and supports the end of the rifle shroud and mod when assembled .. when taking mod off , beware this " boss " MAY unscrew with the mod , as the rubber 0 ring is tight to it .. and it will fall into the moderator .. mine did .. ( this happened to mine PRIOR to me purchasing it ) and subsequently there's nothing to support the shroud at the business end .. this gives POOR accuracy ( maybe because the mod & shroud will be in effect " free floating " ) plus .. the boss will be loose in your moderator and the pellet MAY be clipping it on the way out ... this happened to me , only found out by chance when looking into the mod for clipping internally .. so check the little bugger is on yer UNF silencer thread ...

Hi Chris, I had 2 BSA R10se rifles and the magazines on both rifles would jam when shooting up at a angle into trees. Try testing the R12 for this fault 🤔 and other air rifles which you review ,as it would mimic airgun hunting . I now shoot Daystate rifles and purchased a cheaper magazine to fit Daystate and found it was fine for shooting on the level but when shooting up at a angle would jam so consistently I sent it back. Anyone reading this that have bought cheaper magazine’s regardless of make try testing them by shooting a couple of magazines at a angle as you would when hunting to see if they still perform.

Informative video, thank-you. The Lothar Walther barrels on my Air Arms rifles like JSBs. My BSA does not. Best pellet I have tried in my BSA is BSA Gold Star. I suggest two pellets as a "universal" offering: QYS streamlined (9.56 grain) and H&N Baracuda (10.65 grain). These shoot well in all my rifles, just not the absolute best in each. As ever, your mileage may vary. 😀

New gun. You need to clean the barrel before pellet tests, then lead up. Bsa 177 barrels are notoriously fussy and tend to prefer bizmags. Without cleaning the barrel all you are doing is mixing the barrel slugged with lead. Your results will be better IMO

In fact as a follow up , your groupings at 40 yards we’re the same as mine at 30 yards. In a hunting environment that is the difference between a kill and a wound. When you look through the scope and go “ where did that one come from?” You know it’s a bad un.

Hi Chris, funny enough when I first got my R12 CLX, I thought the same thing, thumbs up position doesn’t work as it should, thumb slips. And two minutes after having the gun I fitted a carbon fibre 500cc Best fittings bottle. I posted this setup on Airgun Forum UK to see reactions, I was told I was the first to post about the R12 on there and it received a lot of good feedback. Not everyone liked the carbon bottle option and didn’t want to move away from change, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it kind of thing” but having lived with the bottle, I like it. Mine CF bottle is long so almost as long as the gun barrel it’s self, perhaps a shorter 400cc would have looked more in keeping with the original styling. Out the box it wasn’t a pellet on pellet .177 story, but I can to brake it in, put a tin through and carry out a pull through clean. I’m now getting the same results as you, I will however try the Air Arms pellets, I have some of those on and my FX rifles hate them 😂 (they only like 45.2 or 45.3) Chris aka cl_foto IG aka DeadShot Airgunrforum
