The 2001 Lakers. The 1986 Boston Celtics. Michael Jordan did not win a single playoff game against Larry Bird or Larry's team. And that would remind you that it took a heroic effort by Allen Iverson and dikembe mutombo to even get a single win off of the Lakers. I think even the 1972 Lakers might have beaten them. Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain match up well with pretty much anyone.

Part of the reason people like dennis will not be seen in the nba is because of how he entered the league. He was a late round 2 player, and he was determined to make the league. Most late round picks now end up playing in a foreign country or g league, and they may get a couple looks until they hit 30. Dennis was determined, and it so happened the pistons had a role for his type of hustle and relentlessness for defense and rebounding.

You're totally right. Starting at the top, with Jordan, their mentality was that they were going to be the best team in the NBA by training harder than anyone else. Jordan really created that culture on the team, and, truthfully, it was highly abusive, but it won games. They just weren't interested in wasting time with anyone that wasn't going to work hard, not matter how talented they might be.

Some players have an innate sense of spatial acuity as it relates to the flight path of the ball. Dennis knew, he could feel, from watching the arc of a shot, which way it was going to come off. He had a split second advantage over everyone else, and he used this to put himself in position to get the board. A very special talent.

When he came to Chicago I was also skeptical, but boy was I ever wrong. He came though in a big way. In fact, I believe he deserved the finals MVP against Seattle. Hard to win when you're not the top scorer ad you have Jordan and Pippen on your team, but he deserved it never the less. Whatever else anyone can say about Rodman, his work ethic on the court was unmatched and he was one rebounding machine.

The most understated stat for Dennis is the offensive rebounds. Only Moses grabbed o-rebs as frequently as him, and he was the main playmaker under the bucket grabbing a lot of his own misses, unlike Dennis. His contribution on offense is like someone who grabbed 6-7 steals per game near the opponent's hoop.

I've read all the arguments for and against the GOAT, but without doubt the big three, Jordan, Pippen and Rodman were the the greatest offense and defense in the history of the game. Their last couple of years together when they were fully tuned in to each other made them the most formidable team to have ever played the game. A man of contrasts. Looking for the spotlight - didn't care about scoring. Party animal, but studied every opponent. Unprofessional and professional at the same time. Did everything for the team during matches, risking injury, taking beatings. Was a liability for the team during preparation: would he show up? Would he show up hungover or not? Extreme self sacrifice, and then some really selfish behaviour. The Bulls were the perfect fit. Jordan and Pippen could do the scoring, and force hard shots from opponents in defense = more rebounds to fight for for Rodman.

"We called up Rodman because he was the very best in the league at what he did. We asked if he wanted work out masochistically, never miss games, and threepeat, because we only care about winning. He said yes." -Michael Jordan, probably When those Bulls beat my Pacers in 98, it was the rebounds that won it for them. The Pacers were playing great defense and their FG% in most games was higher, but the Bulls were getting that many more FGA to overcome their relative inefficiency. Because of the rebounds. Because of Rodman.

Dennis was actually my favorite member on the team. He screwed with and got under every other teams best shooter. While very athletic that's not how he beat them. In their mind they were so screwed up by him they played off their game into his and at his game he was going to beat you every time.. While he didn't score often the other team still had to guard him because he could score and if left unguarded he would. His work ethic was unmatched. Some times I think he was just punking us all.
