These are awesome tips and edits - the final image really pops. I struggle though on how to edit this way with any sort of volume photography.
@fjhphoto4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, with volume photography it's just not sensical to edit this much. When I did weddings I would only edit a few shots like this. Everything else had minor adjustments.

I have my back screen brighter too, for the same reason. But I know what it looks like when the exposure is correct. And if it's critical, I check the histogram. I also have a combination ambient/ 1-degree reflected/flash meter. It's worth the $600.00.
@dennisk58184 жыл бұрын
Nice lecture. I agree that a grid on the rim would have dropped the distracting highlight on the handrail behind her. In lieu of the grid (which can get too directional at times), reposition the rim so that you retain the back light value on the model, but the angle is such that it changes the angle of incidence of the light on the handrail, thereby dropping out the excessive highlight coming back to the camera (angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflectance).

Thanks for another great BTS and sharing it all. Just a wee tip, use the Histogram to read exposure rather than the LCD image on the camera. Just curious does Lightroom not show you what the flash settings are in the EXIF data? I don't use Lightroom but my Nikon View NX-i does show flash settings.
@fjhphoto4 жыл бұрын
I actually like the extra security from underexposing but yes if I needed better SOOC shots I'd use the histogram. No, right now the only technology able to show the flash data is Nikon with speedlites. Nothing else. After about 4 years of looking for that technology in other strobes or cameras I've only seen it happen with Nikon and their speedlites.

Hello sir.. I'm coming from your FB group.. Doing great job by giving free to learn tips on your channel.. Sir which metering mode do you use? I'm getting dark background and exposed model face while using off camera flash in blue hour..
@fjhphoto4 жыл бұрын
Highlight metering mode.
@anzaeria3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend adjusting your exposure of the background scene until you are happy with it and then add flash afterwards.
@jyubiljiny3 жыл бұрын
@@anzaeria will try it. Thanks
@anzaeria3 жыл бұрын
@@jyubiljiny Cool. I look forward to hearing how it goes. Yea spend some time getting the background scene exposed right without even turning the flash on. Play around with your exposure settings - increasing or decreasing the exposure as needed. When the background looks good to your eyes, you can start adding flash to the main subject.
@yvonnemin91434 жыл бұрын
Okay I have a really dumb question. I was shooting with a Profoto B10 last night and we were shooting a little earlier than I would have liked. So my light just wasn’t quite strong enough. I was thinking an ND filter might have saved the day but doesn’t that reduce the strength of the light too? TIA
@zacgrimaldo4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will reduce the amount of light hitting the sensor overall, you would have to increase the power of the light or move it closer to your subject. Or if you had HSS, you could raise the shutter speed to control the ambient light. Hope that helps!

Is the modifier Bowen’s mount or Godox special mount - which is smaller?

It's Bowens mount. I'm using the new s bracket. Godox mount modifiers are smaller so that's definitely an option if you prefer that.

Not sure you can help me with this issue or should I say “Hopefully” you can I’m editing on MacBook Air every time I’m done with my edit an export it it’s darker then the original edit I wide up having to import it again an add more exposure!!! WHY IS THAT?
@fjhphoto4 жыл бұрын
Sound like one of those devices are calibrated wrong. What you can do is see how the image looks on the MacBook and then how it looks on other devices. What's changing? Then when you edit again you can make sure not to add to much of those changes.

FJH Photography Please forgive me, sometimes I forget because I see you guys on KZbin does not mean I can comment without first honoring what you do for the community. I admire your work and have tried to mimic what you do. I love the large modifier and soft light you’re known for. Lately you r 35mm work for full body has the model’s forward foot look disproportionately larger than the other. My first comment same subject should have been written differently and I apologize.
