This song is a BTS fan rite of passage and no matter how many times I see people react I get emotional. It’s the only song that evokes both grief but also offers so much real solace and peace. The MV might be one of the greatest works of art and echo everyone that the explanation is not optional but required. Italian Army’s gets into the Sewol tragedy and the politics the most but also can be the most emotional response to the footage of the victims and their families.

Maybe the reason why this particular BTS song never leaves the Korean Melon Chart since 4 years of its debut (2017) because every year people commemorate the death of those students died in the SEWOL Ferry Tragedy.

Wow…you both really got the message of this song right. RM once explained it’s meaning. btw He never mentioned the Sewol Tragedy, because that happened in 2014, long before this song was released (2017) In a article of pinkvilla you can read: Namjoon and Yoongi revealed that the song was based on their own experiences in their personal lives. Yoongi said, "Doesn’t everyone have an experience in which they parted ways with their friends?” Namjoonie recalled that when he was young, he would meet up with friends and frequented internet cafes. They were precious people to him. However, after his move to Seoul and became a Big Hit trainee, those memories began fading. "I wrote the song while thinking of my friends," he admitted. At that time he was walking in Hangang park and leaves began to fall. This reminded him of cherryblossom paddles in spring and so ‘Spring Day’ was actually written. He also once said that he was wondering why his friends never contacted him anymore, but he realised he was the one who had to make that first step because he was the one who left. And so he did. I believe the music video takes us from early friendship, through several years and different voyages and back again to close friends. I got a bit emotional after hearing about the close friendship you both have. I’m glad BTS made you realize again your friendship is very precious. Stay safe and stay friends. 🇳🇱Gabrielle💜

This video got lots of references, from Omelas, Snowfiercer, and the controversy of the SEWOL Ferry Tragedy. It is really mind blowing, especially that Ferry tragedy was so sad. RM and SUGA said they wrote Spring day based on their experience with old friends. "Spring day" MV also relates to national tragedy, you can watch explanation, if you want to know more about it

You Never Walk Alone is the name of the album where Spring Day is on. You Never Walk Alone is a compilation album of all their songs on Wings plus Spring Day and Not Today. It is also the title of an actual song at the end of that album, which is really2 good. You should hear it.

The snowpiercer was actually a train designed to carry people around and around in circles due to climate change and the world being frozen. The moral of the movie is about social oppression as the back of the train are the have nots and the front of the train are the higherarchy and the back of the train rebel until finally somebody sees a snowflake and realises that snowflakes dont fall when its below a certain temperature ( according to the movie) so the world is warming up again and they can leave the train and start afresh without the oppression. Also I would recommend reacting to one of the MV's explaining the song in detail as there is so many references to things that you wont understand until you watch one of them,

there are two popular explanation videos you can watch to understand the song deeper: one is by bulletproof vibes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqrIYoKEe8p-n9U and one is by Italian Army: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKO3ZZSVe9xppqc The one by Italian Army is hard to watch so be emotionally prepared if you decide to watch it. it shows footage of the Sewol Ferry incident the day it happened and it is absolutely heartbreaking. I had a few nightmares after watching that video but it gives you the best explanation as to what happened that day. It makes you empathize with the victims more and understand why Spring Day is such a powerful and comforting song, especially to Korean people. I love you guys' positive and genuine attitude towards BTS and your viewers. I can tell you both really love music and sharing it with friends is the best way to experience it. I hope you watch one of (or both) explanations; I'd love to see your reaction to it.

Actually a member confirmed finally last year that the MV was about the tragedy. They had to keep it under wraps for a while that they supported the victims of the tragedy since the government was actively pursuing people who spoke up against the government during that time. I strongly recommend the Italian Army's explanation video to fully understand how the song reflects the tragedy. But heads up, the subtitles go by very fast and sometimes there is 2 layers of subtitles because there is the audio translation & the explanation of the situation.

@@carolinareader8661 Well technically, yes. I guess you’ve never heard Namjoon talk about the origins of the song. As always, Suga wrote his verse. He and Joon spoke at least once about the meanings behind the song. Suga’s verse may be more specific than the rest of the song. And BTS singles always have the entire team involved. For example, a lot of people got credits on Taehyung’s Blue & Gray but we know that’s his song and we don’t try to take away credit from him. It seems petty to quibble about this when so much is known about the creation of Spring Day.

@@carolinareader8661 Just like 'Your Eyes Tell' is Jungkook's song, 'Dionysus' is J-hope's, and 'Blue and Gray' is Taehyung,'s we can call 'Spring Day' Namjoon's masterpiece. I know you're one of those people who always have a problem when someone is praising Namjoon. Stop discrediting him! He literally told us how he got the inspiration for the song. And if you want to know, we can also need to thank him the Omelas reference from the MV because he was the one who read the book 'The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas'.

There really is so much imagery and symbolism in this mv, it's hard to keep up. You have the reference to Ursula Le Guin's short story, The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas which looks at the sacrifice & misery of one small child in order to provide a utopic society for all who live in Omelas. And then you have the Snowpiercer reference in which the many sacrifice for the comfort of the few. And then the 2014 Sewol Ferry disaster in which so many people died, mostly high school students, and the subsequent cover-up and whitewashing by the government. Families of the over 300 students are still searching for answers to this day. Some say that the pile of clothes BTS are sitting on & the clothes strewn by the train tracks are those of the dead students who don't need them anymore. Lots to wrap your head around...

But I've been a subscriber here since their very first BTS reaction video, which was for Butter. If you're a subscriber of this channel and is a regular commenter, you probably have seen my comments in most of the videos in the past months. I wasn't sugar-coating stuff whenever I say that these two trolls (lol), Ziah and Shizi, are two of the most sensible, smartest, and funniest YT reactors. I know because I'm also watching a lot of other reactors. But I chose to become a Patreon supporter (I'm not a patron of any other content creators at the moment) because I want to be part of their community. And eversince, I've been having a blast! Like what Shizi said, we talk about BTS, our days at work/school, we support and make each other laugh, and just chat about anything. BTS brought us together, and it's such a nice experience to be part of the ZiahTV fam. I'm actually talking to them more than I do with my closest friends these days LOL. And yes, if you can't be a Patreon supporter, join us whenever they're live on Twitch. It's fun, I promise. Okay ~ that's all for my Ted Talk. HAHAHAHA.

Yes you did react to this song in the tiny desk concert it was there last song. What I didnt notice in the video although it starts with arm when the singing starts , in all the live versions its actually JHope doing the singing and I do believe its him here but for the video sake RM starts it off. Its a very emotional song and like others have said many fan interpreting is to do with the sewol ferry tragedy but BTS has not come out full and said thats the exact reason for the song, however there are many references throughout the song to indicate they might have that tragedy in mind with this song. But like BTS likes to do is leave the meaning of many of their songs up to fans to relate to in their own way, what ever you get from a song is how you should feel about the song. I like that because many of us go through so many different emotions and hardships and can easily get something out of a song that helps us where someone else might interpret a song for something else they are going through. I do suggest the explanation a fan made video for sure its emotional but just keep in mind again BTS has not come out and said its exactly what the video is about , but there are hinds of it for sure. Thanks for the reaction.

As you knew through other explained video, 'Spring Day' is a song with a sad story. In Korea, there was a tragedy called 'the Sewol Ferry incident' in 2014, and nearly 300 adolescents were buried in the sea. The cause of the accident was Cargo overload due to bribery and the government officials who aided him, which led to a dismantling civil revolution. 'Spring Day' is a song dedicated to commemorating and paying tribute to the youths who died innocently.

The song in itself is not necessarily about the ferry tragedy, but the MV definitely is! Many artists got blacklisted for adressing the tragedy and the government's role in it, so they'll never officially say it is about that, but there are unmistakable references in the imagery used: - The yellow ribbons they put on the carousel, the same as the Yellow Ribbon Campaign to commemorate the victims and demand the truth - The Snowpiercer (in the lyrics + the train all along the MV) and Omelas (written on the motel we see twice in the MV) references that are very clear. Both of those stories are about controlling elites/governements that survive and stay in power by using the suffering and death of children There are really good explanation videos for the MV if you're interested in learning more. The one by "bulletproof vibes" explains a lot of the imagery, in particular the many Snowpiercer parallels and is really nicely edited. The one by "italian army" goes a lot more in details about the tragedy itself but it's more emotionnal and a bit chaotic, there *a lot* of info. I'd recommend watching both but maybe on your on time if it's too much for a reaction :)

The symbolism in the MV is real and so heartbreaking. Definitely watch the Italian Army explanation as you will appreciate this song and MV on such another level. Also watch the 3 theory option explanation of the MV as well to pick up a few things that are not addressed in the Italian Army explanation (i.e. Jin at the bottom of the stairs while the other members continue walking up the stairs, while Jin remains at the bottom, the luggage on the train as well as some luggage appear outside of the train. A scene in Snowpiercer where a character has an “epiphany” …pun intended ..that the weather is survivable, that birthday scene cake fight is not necessarily a fun event per RM’s expression when entering the room) . BigHit staff, the crew, writers, producers, set designers, makeup and wardrobe artists and BTS did not miss a beat with every little detail with this MV.

You guys need to watch the explanation video about this mv…because it is actually an ode to a real tragedy that happened in Korea years back. And Spring Day has never left the charts in Korea since it was released.

Thank you both for this reaction! Yes, you guys heard Spring Day on Tiny Desk. RM wrote the song about missing old friends, but the MV has many reference to the Seowl ferry tragedy. I hope you guys can check out Italian ARMY's explain video for Spring Day's MV, she was actually invited to give a speech about it at a conference. Edit: The YT event you mentioned was the Class' of 2020 speech and performance for the 2020 graduates. I hope you guys can react to BTS's speech and performance someday! Also, Life Goes On was the song BTS wrote about the pandemic(Though, I believe most, if not all the songs off the BE album were written with the pandemic in mind).

Great reaction. You caught some things that I missed the first few times I watched it. Also, you must watch an explanation video to understand the full impact of this music video. Yes, Spring Day is a beautiful song and I listen to it daily. But the music video is true art. The nuances they had to use so that they did not get blacklisted by the Korean government just brings to video to a whole new level. I liked BTS before understanding this video, now I'm obsessed. You would really be doing a disservice to yourselves if you don't watch it. Since you don't know anything about the Sewol Ferry tragedy, watch the Italian Army's video. She did a great job adding information into video. She has also been asked to give lectures about it. It's very well done. The English one is good as well. Honestly, I would do both. I ❤ you guys! Looking forward to more! Watch something funny like Jimin questioning men's sexuality videos or Everyone's Gangsta till Park Jimin starts flirting. You'll need it. Peace. ✌

I'd love to join the discussion on the streams but for some reason it's really intimidating, I feel like maybe because it is a tight knit group, there are a lot of inside jokes. It's not a negative thing, I think it speaks volumes about you two as people that you have this kind of relationship with your viewers and supporters ♥️

BTS will never confirm if the song is about the tragedy, it’s a sensitive topic in Korea and people were blacklisted by the g*vernment for supporting the cause, but still they left a lot of clues that it is about it.
