On my 18th birthday, my parents threw a party for me and invited our next-door neighbors. "Jim," one of our neighbors who had married a single mother asked me if he could talk to me privately for a few minutes. I figured he just wanted to encourage me to finish my education/save for the future etc. Instead, he said in no uncertain terms NOT to date or get involved with any woman who already has a kid. I said to him that he seemed to be doing okay with it but then he told me that it was all a "facade" and his life was miserable. His 8-year-old step-daughter had made his life a complete nightmare and he couldn't discipline her as his wife made it clear that he wasn't her "real" father and had no role in doing that. He was on the "hook" financially for the kid's braces/school costs etc etc. This step-child had this delusional idea that her real father didn't come back because "Jim" had shown up and she would take out her anger on him over it. Best advice I ever got

I came out of a relationship with a single mom last year, she showed all the signs of NPD, love bombing me when we first got together. We moved in together after 9 months and that mask of hers slipped so fast, before long she was constantly criticising me and it was all about her. Although she put the blame on me and didn't take responsibility for anything, often having wild mood swings and never accepting criticism. She was always the victim. Not to mention I spend more time with her kid than my own which didn't sit well with me. I started watching your videos and it helped me get perspective. Add in the lack of social shaming as well. It used to be frowned upon to be a single parent unless the wife/husband died.

@@JD-fx1np just to let you know, I have made six figures since I was 28, not abusive, always a great provider and father. Ex wife got bored, cheated then divorced. My ex wife identified as a single mother, strong and independent telling everyone about her plight and at times, right in front of me as I was picking up and dropping off my child. This same strong and independent woman was receiving 4000.00 per month in spousal and child support for one child. So she was rewarded for cheating and breaking our family up. I know of at least ten guys who went through the same thing for the same reasons. The really great thing and I should have been smart enough to stay away from her because she did the exact same thing to her first husband. So I took on a single mother. Her ex husband dodged child support and so this was my gratitude for supporting a child that was not mine. During our divorce she tried to nail me for child support on my step daughter and the only thing that saved me was that I had audio recordings of both her and her daughter saying that I had no right to tell the child what to do because I wasn't her parent. This is exactly why I tell every young man to stay away from marriage, single mothers and keep things wrapped at all times. Never trust any woman. Even women will tell you this when it comes to being accountable for pregnancy.

I dodged a bullet recently, I was acquainted with a woman whom I discovered to have a lifetime of horrible decision making: jumped on the carousel at 15, started weed at 16, then ciggies at 19, coke at 21, became homeless(drugs) at 25/26, got off the streets at 27/28, met the loser who would introduce her to meth at 29, became homeless again at 31, got pregnant by the same loser at 36, diagnosed with uterine cancer(std's from the carousel)at 40, survived cancer, lost custody of the kid and finally quit coke & meth at 41, and the kid was 5y/o!!! split from baby daddy at 42, diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer(Chain Smoking) at 43, And she STILL SMOKES ciggies & weed to this day!! Now she's 45, broke with no career prospects, Graying hair, Scars & track marks all over her body, and legs that are lumpier than cottoage cheese, 5'4" and 215lbs. And she still believes that she can get any guy that she wants😆😆😆😆 How delusional can she be!?!?!? Even though She's broke, she's forced to work full time despite her lung cancer. She also owes $30k in lawyer fees, And She's been fighting baby daddy to regain custody of her kid since she quit coke & meth 2yrs. ago. Talk about an absolute trainwreck beyond salvage! a few months ago, Her oncologist(doesn't know that she's stjll smoking) told her that her cancer was growing, and she had a yr. left to live if she didn't start chemo immediately. She decided to go the natural homeopathic route instead, but she hasn't been following the strict dietary & exercise regimen she needs to survive. And She lives alone with 2 cats. She has gotten better: attending recovory meetings, and seeing a therapist, staying away from the drugs(except the weed) But everyone knows that It was her own decisions that put her there. Just insane!! When I found out the facts about her past, I ghosted her immediately, and never looked back!! Lesson learned, don't even be friends with a single Mom!! Just stay away!! Thank God I found out about all this drama early on, and got away unscathed!! Never again, not even friends! Single Mom=Absolutely NO CONTACT!!!

If the ex is still around it makes things worse especially if he hasnt started a new relationship with another person. He will cause problems especially jealousy over the kids liking you. She will always remind you that she has to see him because.he is their father. Its hard to handle. You become jealous, and if you say something about her ex or.her kids you come out looking like the bad one or a controlling, jealous douche. If youre a single man...run before its too late. I can believe these stories...I love listening to your channel and have learned a lot about men and women dating, etc. But these single mom stories are making me feel so anxious! I just can't imagine living a life with so many problems and difficulties that seem unnecessary. My story? I'm a female. My parents separated and divorced during my freshman year in college; she moved out. My dad was destroyed. I'm an only child. I have never married and I didn't want to take the chance of going through that again. I'm fortunate that I found a career in the health field that allows me to help people and support myself. I'm not a boss type, I'm more of a subject matter expert, so I do my job and don't manage anybody. I've basically spent my life avoiding difficult entanglements, dating off and on every several years. Sure, I get lonely sometimes, but I'm lucky I'm an introvert and have a few satisfying hobbies. What some of these men go through with single moms with kids from different dads, I couldn't handle it.

Thank you for the summary of why to avoid single mothers. The constant reinforcement is necessary and you never know who is hearing the reasons for the first time. Rich often talks about chasing excellence. Learning how to avoid bad women and learning their nature is a form of chasing excellence in my opinion. Maybe you don't make a lot of $$ but you can be "rich" if you avoid making stupid mistakes with women. Today's topic provided a lesson on how to do that. Lastly, I miss Shawn Smith on these podcasts. I am 26 and have some personal things I am dealing with. Helping my broken family taking time away from myself. I have been hurt in the past with relationships but the one good thing I learned young was. Do not have kids unless you are certain and ready. There is no rulebook on it but still. I see too many dudes knock up girls and have kids. All get married and either divorced (yes 50% of them have divorced) the other 50 are still together. But almost every single one of them reach out to me and always ask how I have nice things. Even though they do not see the personal struggles. I am glad to have not brought a child into this world with a partner whom I hardly can fully trust. Girls are just exactly what Rich says. Generally. Some rare cases that are not what he says but still he is more than 90% spot on. Great stuff. Thanks everyone.

On the other side I just got out of a LTR with a woman with 2 kids and there were so many red flags, victim mindset, never wrong, can't handle criticism, neediness, moving in way to fast (I'm to blame for this as well) gaslighting, thinking I was hiding her because I didn't use FB or Insta and false accusations. I think it all depends on the woman and this womans issues stems from a bad childhood and I will never say never, but I am going to tread lightly if I find someone with a kid that's for sure.

I'm a 41 year old Dad of 2 kids (7 and 9). My wife left me a year ago and moved back to her home country with my kids and is now in a new relationship with a divorced man who's kids are 16 and 18. To be honest, I feel a bit sorry for him, because now he's done parenting round 1, he's about to have to do it again with my kids. My kids are great, but I couldn't do what he's signing up for. I don't want any more kids myself (2 is enough!). I've been thinking about who I might want to date once I'm divorced. I came to the conclusion that I'd either need to find a woman who definitely doesn't want kids, or find someone who's kids are getting close to leaving home or have already left, or stay single. I don't think I would enjoy having to parent someone else's kids and get the whole "you're not my REAL Dad" talkback from her kids. Not a very tempting proposition.

Thank you Rich...I agree, raising another man's kids is a setup for failure for many reasons...However, if those kids have been raised already (adults), and are either out of the house or headed out, then I believe ur chances for success with her increase, since she's most likely not wanting to be alone....The downside to that is IF she still wants to be constantly with her kids (more than you're willing to accept)...Or, have them come over to your house all the time. This usually happens with single mothers who have raised their kids since very early in their lives and like dogs, have separation anxiety, or just feel that they need to be in those kids lives all the time......So, what you'll have is those kids come over to your house un-announced, like it's a hotel (and may even have the key), not respecting you or your privacy. This definitely will suck, cause suppose you're in ur boxers, or having sex with ur lady, and the kids are knocking and you're left behind and ignored...Then, yeah, Hellllll na, that's not going to work and it's a conversation that needs to happen BEFORE u live together....starting with RESPECT.

A few years earlier this father had married himself a younger "honey bunny" with young children in tow from a previous relationship. As this young man is grieving over the loss of his father, the step-mom informs him that ; even though there was a will that included the young man and his sister, she was keeping everything ! She needed all of it to raise her kids . I think there was a classic car involved that was promised to the son and some other items to both siblings ? The step-mom told the them they could buy the items if they wanted (at a fair value) to but that if not she was putting everything she was not using herself up for sale and keeping the money for herself !

I wish that I had heard this years ago. Oh, well...live and learn. It can also be tough when a woman is divorced with "adult" children that manipulate her to get help and money.
