This plaintiff is a TOTAL opportunist! If he "works in tech", he SHOULD be aware that solid state electronics (unless there's actually power running through them at the time) can be TOTALLY SUBMERGED in water, and, as long as they're completely dried before being powered up, will suffer NO damage - so his "boxed Avaya IP500 PRI card" will be FINE once it dries off. I have cleaned computer motherboards in an ultrasonic cleaner under 2½ gallons of water (after removing the CMOS battery) for YEARS and all of them are still working to this day. Moreover, I have a friend who regularly cleans his computer keyboards using a dishwasher. The basic rule for solid-state circuitry exposed to water is: as long as it's dry before you power it up, it'll be just fine.

When I saw the wall of suds crawling out of the kitchen we stopped the machine and cleaned everything. I told him we needed to get it all out of the machine, "nah, it should be fine now". A few minutes later I see the sud monster coming at us, damn. And it happened a third time before he finally realized that it wasn't going to stop. We pulled the dishes and he washed them while I cleared out the machine. When his wife and her sisters got home they were so happy with the great kitchen cleaning we'd done.
