I'm a day late and dollar short with my comment, but you seem to have a quality that my Finnish mother called Sisu. Sisu is a Finnish concept and cultural construct that is described through a combination of various English terms including stoic determination, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness. It is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage that expresses itself in taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures. Buckin' my friend you have this in spades and the world is better off for it. Merry Christmas to you and your family, and all of my fellow soldiers of kindness.

nieme5858..... your comment above left me breathless and in absolute awe! The English language could not have been any better orchestrated to describe our fearless leader. Thank you dearly for sharing that comment with all of us and have a blessed and Merry Christmas to you and yours. P.S. In your case that comment was better late than never!

"Life is so special to me" a quote from Billy Ray. I'm proud of you Buckin'. Most of us have had opportunities or will have opportunities to give up when the going gets to the edge of what we can endure. I hope we all will meet those situations with the same tenacity that you did. The stories are inspiring.

I listened to your story while I was in my workshop. I did not watch, i listened. Thank you for sharing. During your journey, the fire was built during your darkest days and a true testament of mind over matter and how you remained integeral and made a choice to prevail. I'm very interested in the story of Billy Buckin Ray before, during and after your incident with the tree. Its times like these that bring us closer to you and your mission of spreading posivity. We are a messengers of KINDNESS. Thank You. I like "Story time with Buckin" and I'm sure you have lots to share.. FIND YOUR SHINE!

Thank you for sharing Buckin'. In 1993 I did 125 days on crutches in the USMC for a 7 place fibula fracture / dislocation + break of the L ankle. Fixation was by way of 14 screws and a plate. When I took my first baby steps without crutches again, the emotion was huge. That feeling of being broken... yep, I can relate. You're never knowing if the ligament damage was gonna gimp you for life... was tough, but like you, with therapy, I did recover. Heck, you recovered so well, you're now the leader of a 15,000+ strong ARMY, and we're SO fortunate. Standing by in Bagram, Sir!

I look at it now with gratitude that im still here and still in the woods but for sure it changed my total perspective on life, for the better. My balance aint returned very well, which does make climbin not as much fun but the flip side to that is its made me more focused on log builds, teachin\Sharin knowledge\Learning and emracin every day. Brian thank you for your kind words. I was fortunate to never have been injured in the woods or in the commercial fishing industry as well. My story is about hip surgeries that keep getting infection. I have been battling this since 2012. Thank goodness for wonderful family, friends, and especially for my very caring wife. Just this past summer one of my new hips reinfected and went septic, my kidneys shut down, life fligjted from one hospital to another, it was touch and go there for awhile. Long story short I lived to fight another day and just recently had another hip reimplanted wbich seems to be doing wonderful at the moment. While gking through this I discovered Buckin, he has helped keep my spirits up for sure.

Bill, congratulations for continuing to fight when others may not have had the strength. Sounds like things may be looking up for you. I'm so thankful to have my strong wife too... women sometimes... can't hardly believe how she puts up with what would seemingly kill me if I were without her! Will be watching your comments and thinking about you, stay strong man.

Thanks for that story , very powerful , almost had me in tears thinking of your experiences . Boy ! So true about taking life by the horns . Its a shame that it sometimes takes a near death experience to wake us up . The key is not to let the stresses of life cloud that clear vision again over time - you've obviously got the key . I broke my leg last year after a motorcycle hit me from behind - I filmed it as I had a head cam - watching it was very emotional 50/50 could have killed me , just luck I didn't - but heck it made me wake up and put life into perspective - for me at 48 yrs old there's still time - keep on truckin Billy Ray - you brighten our days !!

Buckin’ thank you for this story. I’m a new Sub that stumbled across you a few days ago. This story is the motivation I needed. I’ve been riddled with some back and arm injuries that limited most of my firewood cutting last year. I’m done, the fight is on. Keep bringing this great stuff. Always used my Stihl 290 until I was given a Pro Mac 10-10. I’ve used it very little, however you may have me convinced on giving this old saw some bar time, once I get cutting again, thanks again. YB Family Farm, (Joe) Welcome to you! So glad you've joined us here. You'll find that you aren't alone here. Many of us have been the walking wounded. As you've witnessed in this video, our leader is steeped in go-getsmanship, a true vessel of positivism. Sorry to hear of your physical complications. We are an empathetic bunch, stick around and read through the comments and you will be exposed to compassionate encouragement. Pro Mac 10-10 huh? Sounds like you are going to fit right in here... I'm quite certain 10-10's serve as a membership card here on the channel! There are three years worth of archives to dig into here, so you should be able to study up whilst binge watching over the Holiday Break! Merry Christmas to You and Yours. Be Kind, Be Blessed!

Buckin, your story is inspirational. I got hit by a branch from an oak in May this year. It landed on me from 5.5 metres up. It smashed me up pretty good. My injuries were by no means as substantial as yours, but I've been carrying multiple fractures in my spine for the last 7 months. I was back trying to work after a month, and I've got to tell you, it was hard! (And still is, everything still hurts) The way I see it. If you can come back from what happened to you, and turn into the fantastic human being you are now, it should be a walk in the park for me. You're an inspirational man. Much love to you and your family! Oh yeah, I'm currently saving up for a Buckin special too! Stay safe.... Rob.

Billy this was an important video to me...thank you for making it. Like you and the men that posted below, we have gone through a life changing accident. 1000's of hours on heavy equipment... then that one mistake. Crawled up through the brush to the road to be found 18 years ago... When I returned I was a humbled man, who learned to appreciate, trust and allow others to help me. They helped me to walk again... That accident made me a kinder, gentler, more forgiving man... what a journey. Thank you again brother...

man that hit real close my dad had a log pin him between the carriage and a big red oak about 5 ft across blew out his back and messed up a leg when I was 16, doctors said chances of him walking again were slim to none it was hard to watch he layed in bed about 4 months until one day he asked me to stay home from school he asked me to get his old truck and take a ride it took all 145 lbs of me to help him he's about 250lbs 6'2" but we went for that ride it meant a lot to both of us and we're even closer than ever now I'm 23 and dad's back up getting around with doctors still saying he shouldn't be walking. Your story just helps to prove you can't keep a good man down glad your able to do what you enjoy

The purpose of life is to not arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, but to come sliding in, beat up, worn out, saying DAMN what a RIDE!!!!! I'd say you're doing a pretty good job at it!!!! :)

I can imagine it was! I know very well how it is to be smashed up...should have been dead a couple of times, but as my cohabitant says" you're like a cat...you have nine lives..at least!" I guess most of them are used up now..haha!!

Buckin' Billy Ray, you are a very, very lucky person. Many people in your situation would have given up for sure. It sounds like your accident changed your life and made you a more loving and compassionate man. Life is such a precious thing and we all need to treasure each and every day we have in it. You are a good man and an inspiration to us all.

Hi Billy, your story is so much like mine. I was layed up for over a year when I got smashed. But you make up your mind that you are going to get better and you do. Can't believe Bear Claw would leave you hanging when you where in that condition. I would have stepped up and kept the business going so you could heel up and not worry, instead of leaving you hang. Glad you got better!!😁😁 Take care my friend. Love to all!! Your friend Al.

I know exactly how you felt when you were at the low point brother. In January of 97 while working on the farm with some machinery a chain let go and I got pinned under a spray rig which shattered my lower left leg and ankle. We lived nearly 60 miles from the nearest medical treatment/hospital, and I ended up being air lifted from that hospital to the nearest big regional hospital. A couple of operations and 15 days later I was back at home and then a further 9 months of treatment before I was fully back to strength. they were hard times. And then in October 2001 while repairing a windmill a block and tackle became dislodged from the top of the 30ft tower and smashed my left shoulder and ruptured 3 disks in my back. It left me a bit messed up physically and emotionally but still alive and grateful to whatever higher power kept me that way. I am not meant to do any heavy lifting or too much bending but like you I just soldier on as best I can. From that I took the stance that each moment is a gift to be shared with love and kindness. I also decided that if what I have learned over the years can help others then I will gladly share that knowledge rather than selfishly take it to my grave. Rob

Thank you for sharing that Rob, and sorry for your brutal injuries. You are yet another who's message I've read and taken to heart: TO BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL. Thank you.
