Luckily there aren't too many knots in the wood I get to buck and split Sunday at my in-law's. They had their red oak limbed out, so I'm taking my Stihl 029 and a splitting maul to break it down into firewood for my in-laws, and a load for our house. Can't wait to get to work!

I'm from tje state of Maine originally n now live in Florida but 40 yrs of my life were spent there and Forestry and logging are the backbone of Maines Economy. My grandfather worked for Great Northern Paper for 40 plus yrs, grew up in the Northern Maine woods 🪵 so using a chainsaw has been a huge part of my life. From cutting firewood 2 stay warm to felling n bucking trees to make a living and I'm still doing that here in Florida lol so thank u for upping my filing game and some little tricks I've picked up from u! Most of those cracks over the knot you did is why I do things different than you. If I stick it across a knot for whatever reason, Im using a good, but expendable splitting maul. I reach over grab a 16# sledge and use the maul as a wedge. You have a LOT more fineness than I do. I will say, your timber stand is much straighter grain than mine. Our methods are almost different by necessity. Im kinda jealous actually, that looks so cathartic by comparison to my “Hulk Smash” methods 😂

My father left me a year ago now, age 92. He could split wood like no one else. I was hitting with everything I had and got nothing done. He would grab the axe and make them break appart like it was nothing.

The road to “running back” legs has long passed for me. Between hip replacement, separated tendons, and squats never being my favorite workout. But I’m happy I can put my boots on by myself
